HelpYou may remember that back when we had the R1FA016 firmware I was able to pinpoint this rather glaring bug in the X10’s radio setup which caused the phone to turn off the WiFi each and every time the phone dropped to no signal AND again when it reattached to the network. This was a particularly troublesome bug for me living in a poor signal area so I was especially pleased to see SE fix it with the recent R2BA020 firmware. Imagine my disgust, though funnily enough not surprise, then when I begin trying out my freshly installed R2BA026 update and witness the return of of this disastrous radio implementation.
My WiFi is once again useless as it turns itself off and on again constantly as my X10 struggles for signal and will likely have to downgrade back to R2BA020. In stark contrast to SE, I can only recommend that you avoid this update unless you wish to lose functionality.
Well done SE another triumph of wireless engineering, please sack whichever cretinous buffoon(s) that worked on this! Either that or stop tasking your firmware updates to the work experience kids you amateurs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh dear is all I can say.
Watching this, I don’t feel like getting the X10… SE, come on! haven’t you learnt from your mistakes yet?!
At least all that isn’t going to get censored.
I will be bombarding SE with a link to this tomorrow and have also created a topic on their new support forum.
It seemed they had learned as they fixed this and now inexplicably brought it back.
Quite unbelievable. Haven’t they learned anything?

I don’t want to detract from your plight, but apart from that glaringly bad error on SE’s part – do we know the reason for the update? Any ‘other’ benefits?
I know SE are cr4p, but I don’t think they put out an update just to spite you

No idea what else has changed, to be honest I can’t really say I’ve noticed any other detectable difference

I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I’m happy that there are people at SE that are bothering with updates, but on the other hand (even though your issue doesn’t affect me), I’m peed off at the incompetence.
Wish I had gone with HTC Desire! They’re getting 2.2 this weekend – announced by HTC directly….and 2 of the UK networks have already announced when they’re releasing their versions…Oh such efficiency!

i can report that due to a messed up time table they skipped out on the regression testing on this release. And that is not the only

syanide, have you now got issues with wifi since the update, or just Mik (or anyone else)?
Difficult to say as I’m not in a dodgy reception area, so I can’t test the issue. I have no reason to doubt Mik though. I will try to keep an eye out. However, I don’t be able to tell what it was like with 020 as I wasn’t looking out for it then.

I called SE today and they said they would get back to me within 5 working days. I’ll keep you posted when they do.
I’ve managed to replicated this issue on two other X10s, so it is definitely a phone/firmware issue.
To replicate a loss of mobile signal, go to mobile networks settings and switch between “GSM only” and “WCDMA only”. There will be a brief period when the phone has no signal. I would be interested to see if anyone’s X10 can maintain a wifi connection between this transition. It worked fine in firmware 020 and I don’t see why it shouldn’t be the same for 026…
It’s ok. Thought your ‘good luck’ message was to us, the users that went ahead with the update. Now I realised it was aimed at SE.

Incidentally you can test this even in a stable reception area.
As long as you don’t have 3G coverage go to Settings > Wireless controls > Mobile networks > Network mode and choose WCDMA only.
When I do this the WiFi immediately switches off the same was as seen in the video.
I’ve replicated this. Basically, in settings, if you pick the network mode that you’re not currently on, then it will temporarily lose all network connection while it searches for the other network type. Anyway, not surprisingly, the WiFi goes off with I
t. And not only that, but it takes an age to contact up to the WiFi again!!!
Not that I doubted you Mik.
Anyway, got to get back to my full 3G reception….

Yep, it’s more than a little inconvenient!
I noticed that engadget reposted this and since then we’ve had another 7 or so ping backs from other sites doing the same so the good thing is that it’s getting coverage and hopefully SE might crawl out of their cave for long enough to realise what a pathetic “update” they have put out there!
Don’t you guys have access to the batphone at SE headquarters, in your capacity as Admin? I thought you guys would have a bit more clout with the powers to be?

. I dont remember having any problems on 20 though, so I hope 28 rolls out quickly and fixes this problem.
I updated this morning.. works perfectly fine – tested it in and out of signal areas – no problems
To be honest I find Sony Ericsson to be particularly unresponsive and uncooperative as a company and no they have offered no help at all!
