Just a few days ago, Sony Ericsson updated its Windows Mobile panels SDK to version 1.0.5 (still a beta, though). The updated version now adds support for the brilliant OpenGL ES, which means the XPERIA panels can now be hardware accelerated. The X1 has a very powerful graphics processor, and I can’t wait to see the results of this new release.
You can read a lot more about the new release over at Sony Ericsson’s Developer World, where you can also download it for free, so you can start developing panels for the X1. Alternatively, you can press this link, and we’ll hook you up the triple W-way!
The new panels show just how robust and slick these mini-apps can be for the Windows Mobile-powered smartphone! It’s taken Sony Ericsson some time, but I think that they are finally creating a set of Xperia panels that offer some really exciting functionality.
Omio is heading back to the Sony Ericsson stand tomorrow to look at the Skype panel in detail.
Over at MySonyEricssonBlog.com they’ve got an excellent online tool for those of us with an XPERIA X1 or intentions of buying one. This tool is an online XPERIA panel creator that is capable of creating and compiling HTML panels that will work on the X1.
On the site is a rather extensive guide to how the panels are created and what you’ll need to create one yourself. Having created a few HTML panels with the XPERIA panel SDK myself, I can say that this is basically the same thing - only free.
Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Here’s the link, if you feel like giving it a shot.
Sony Ericsson released a new panel for the X1 today - a Facebook panel that is simply super great!
The user interface is spectacular, easy to use and very fast, and although that’s a bit surprising to me, there’s another thing that surprised me even more; the functionality of the panel. You can pretty much do anything you can normally do on a computer with this panel! This includes viewing profiles, sending and receiving messages, reading and writing on walls, checking out photo galleries, and even uploading your own photos. You can change your status text and view other people’s status updates, as well as check your notifications. Lots of pictures after the break.
