Sony Ericsson T700 is the new T610

We were first to report about the T700 with this post when we only knew it by Remi, which is its codename. Later on the same phone was leaked in a massive photo series over at SE4M forums, and just recently again by us compared to the T610.
T700 is going to be announced tomorrow morning, and to be quite honest, there’s not that much to say about it. It’s basically a generic W890, which means they’ve put it in another suit and removed the Walkman player. All other features are the same - 3.2 megapixel fixed focus camera, 2-inch display, HSDPA network support, very thin body and light weight. The phone itself is also made of premium materials, and it looks just as stylish as the W890.
It will be launched within two months, so expect it to be out in early Q4. Its price will end up at about 270 Euro or about £200 SIM-free and without contract. It is going to be available in three colours - we’ve seen one of them. Another one is very similar to a special T610 colour variant, and the third one is all silver.
Unfortunately we cannot post any pictures of it yet, so you’ll have to wait about nine hours…
In case you’re wondering… The T700 is the only phone to be announced tomorrow. Not the G705, it seems it was leaked too early. The next announcement is planned to be in September.

To be honest, I’m getting bored of the announcements.
I used to actually enjoy seeing leaks and pre-production units on this blog because the handsets SE used to make were top of the line, and had exciting new features that were rare in the GSM market.
Nowadays, its the same, unappealing, old crap that keeps on coming up. Take this T700 for example:
“It’s basically a generic W890, which means they’ve put it in another suit and removed the Walkman player.”
I guess that is all SE has to say for the announcement. Nothing new, just the same, old, recycled phones. Hell, even the K790a which is like 3 years old can trump this.
Meh…
Why does it take them two months to take out the Walkman player and fit it in a new shell? Or maybe that’s closer to 6-8 months if you go by the W890i release. Ridiculous really.
It’s still overpriced just like the W890.
Nothing new….
hmmm so is that like $300usd? If so thats not too bad
Little off topic (well, there’s nothing I can write about T700 :-/ ), Michell, are you going to write a review of W980? I would be interested in reading one good review of this phone.
This phone is aimed directly at the Nokia 6 series, it was more business like diesign.
Actually the media player is the exact same as the walkman player, the only difference is that it does not say “Walkman”, and lack a few less necessary features such as auto-generated playlists. This is the case with all new sony ericsson phones. The sound quality is the exact same, and most features are there. The look is also the same except for the walkman logo.
One feature added to this phone that w890 did not have, is a camera lamp.
This phone is probably going to be a bit cheaper than the w890 - the walkman branding will have people pay more. It has not taken SE several months to develop this out from the w890, this is simply a phone aimed for another audience. As the w890 was aimed for music lovers with money who wanted a slim phone with style, this is aimed at people who want a slim phone with style and funcionality.
I have the T700 and I guess I’m the intended audience - a business user who didn’t want the walkman branding but all the functionality of the W890. I think it’s a great phone, if a little too light and I’ve had several Nokias and Samsungs over the past few months (S40/60, WinMo, etc) - SE seem to have the right mix between functionality and simplicity. Only shame is it doesn’t work well with my BT car kit.
