Sony Ericsson SO706i on its way to Japan

Sony Ericsson in Japan is once again ready with yet another multimedia phone. This time it’s the Sony Ericsson SO706i for NTT DoCoMo - a rather stylish Japanese phone targeted at the female audience.

It features a whopping 2.8 inch widescreen TFT display at a resolution of 240 x 427 pixels. What could that large screen be used for? Mobile TV, browsing the web, checking out the Eiffel Tower in Paris with Google Maps or taking photos with the built-in 2 mega pixel camera (with auto focus, that is).

The SO706i is also a rather light phone for the Japanese market - or so it seems - as it only weighs 98 grams. It measures 105 x 49 x 13.4 millimetres, so it’s rather thin as well.

SO706i will be out in Japanese NTT DoCoMo shops on July 4, retailing at about 40,000 Japanese yen - equivalent to about $380 or 240 Euros.

I didn’t mean change it! But I don’t mind that you did.

  9. Marcellus says:

Japanese phones developed exclusively for Japan because it’s FOMA phones, as i know, they won’t work with European operators… I can be wrong…

  10. Marcellus says:

There’s so much specific standards and technologies implemented in it, so they are suitable only for japanese phones market.

  11. Chris S says:

hmmm a 2mp only…in japan? man why cant we have have flip phones that have a screen this big!! It’s almost impossible to find a flip phone that has a screen bigger then 2.4 that would be amazing but how large is this thing??!

  12. Muhammad-Oli says:

@Chris S: 2MP only because this is a mid-end Japanese phone (go by the 7 in the name). The high-end phones all begin with a 9. So the SO906i will be a much better phone.

  13. thotee says:

ok…then why just don’t they modify it to be used overseas?  man, just look at those phones!  like the cybershot phone wth 5.1 CCD mpix with 3x optical zoom or the BRAVIA phones. perhaps they should have eradicated the “ericsson” cause these are “sony” handsets

  14. It doesn,t seem good with stuff equipped with advanced features So I don,t think we should be crazy towards that. We are having better mobile phones in market.
