Sony Ericsson has just recently filed a patent for automatic zooming on its cameraphones. The basic idea is to make zooming automatic by following the handset movement. When you move a camera away from your body, the image zooms in, as you move it back, the image zooms out. The technology involves accelerometers and proximity sensors to measure the movement of the handset, it’s distance from your body and a software to convert the movement values into a zoom parameters. So if some of you feel its too laborious to press a button to zoom in and out, Sony Ericsson might just come out with the right product for you in a few years.

interesting…but would it be practical?
in this case, i think the person would need to be very very steady with his/her hands when taking the picture..or else the camera might just zoom out/in any moment…
besides that, what if the guy’s in a confined space? hm…
i dont know if SE’s focusing on a right direction. =p

How about waiting till some concrete results come out? Do I have to remind the internet of this every other day?

@synn – You must be tired seeing as how you have to remind the entire internet every other day
@Chu iAN – Well, if you’re in a confined space, why would you be zooming? Everything would be close to you already

Auto zoom seems interesting we have to see how this will end up overall.
