Sony Ericsson customers are the biggest mobile gamers in the UK according to the National Games Survey. More than 8 million Britons use their mobiles to play games and of those the single largest group were Sony Ericsson customers, coming in at 2.3 million people. Nokia and Samsung took second and third place respectively with 1,8 million mobile gamers and 1.5 million gamers. The iPhone lagged some way behind with 700,000 gamers. The stats were reversed when those surveyed were asked if they paid for games; 85% of iPhone users said they regularly paid for games, but just 38% of Sony Ericsson and Nokia users paid for games. To be fair to the iPhone it doesn’t have the same number of customers as the other companies, but it does seem to draw a larger pool of customers who are willing to regularly pay for games. Perhaps surprising was that teenagers only accounted for 18% of mobile gamers with just 15% of those who are regular gamers prepared to pay for content. The biggest age group was the 20-34 demographic.
