Sony Ericsson Media Manager - Now Version 1.1

The media managing tool supplied with all new Sony Ericsson phones, Sony Ericsson Media Manager, has been updated to version 1.1, and this includes many new features and enhancements. Earlier on, the application was quite slow when converting songs and transferring files to the phone - it even displayed the wrong memory amount on my K850! It wasn’t that stable either. Now all of this has been fixed, and it works quite fast.
One of the best added features, however, must be the support for converting videos. In the release version, you’d have to upgrade to “Pro” to get this ability, but now it’s free.
The new version can be found right here!

Other information about Media Manager 1.1 : it works not only with A200 phones but also with A100. I’ve tested it in K770 and W880. You should choose “File Transfer” mode on your phone to recognize by this software.
Its really good improvement and it definitely make Sony Ericsson more stronger………
so.. i’ve installed here… and about the video feature… in mine still say i have to buy it… in this new version they even add a new “GO PRO” tab…
i’ll give it a try tonight
thanks for the news….
Ive just installed version 1.0. (Just finding out where to find the version information took a few minutes, Its hiding inside the settings tab under an about button.)
I think SonyE MM should win the gold-medal for non-intuitive sw.
I have tried in vain looking through all the functions and browsing through the use-less documentation to find out where your photos end-up when you synchronize your photos.
Just look in the help and try to find where the photos on the camera will end up on the pc. The help is embarrasly bad, but I guess the actual sw that the help is describing is even worse.
In the end I had to go to the SonyE web and look under FAQ, where I found the following on how to transfer photos from the phone to the pc:
How do I transfer a picture from my phone to my computer?
“To transfer a picture from the phone to the computer by USB, follow these steps:
Connect the USB cable to the computer and the phone.
In the phone: When you attach the USB cable to the phone, you are prompted to choose between Phone mode, Media transfer, Print and Mass storage. Choose Mass storage and press “”Select”".
On the computer: Open My Computer. Your phone will be visible as a removable disk.
Double-click the removable disk.
Here you will find specific folders (depending on your phone model) where your pictures are stored.
Drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste the picture from the appropriate folder to a folder on your computer.
Disconnect the phone from the USB cable.
The picture is now transferred to your computer.
You can also transfer pictures via Bluetooth™. See the user guide for details about this.” Visa mig!
Nowhere is the MediaManager mentioned.
Actually most of the references to photos in the SonyE MediaM help is how to delete them!! both on your PC and on your phone.
I guess the best solution for SonyE MediaM would be to just delete the whole piece of software and all the source code that go along with it.
I now installed version 1.1.
Its definitely a step forward. Synchronization nowhere to be mentioned in the help, the function is actually removed! And it’s now comprehensible how to transfer items from the phone to the PC.
Well done!!
(Could it be that someone who actually cares about what the application contains started to work there?)
What happened to the video conversion ability?
Over 400 quid for the phone and then they want another 15 quid to go PRO?
Robbery.
I downloaded the 1.1 version of Sony Ericsson Media Manager and liked what I saw.
I then followed the online prompts via the “GO PRO” tab and purchased Sony Ericsson Media Manager PRO.
I received the email with the serial number, but no further instruction.
What exactly do I do now? It’s nice to have spent my money for a serial number, but how does that help me upgrade?
Any assistance?
What is your serial number ?
There are 2 different types of serial. I will tell you where you have to enter it.
^^ Haha, yeah right. Thats so obvious.
Don’t give up your serial number dude.
Man, am sick of searching the d’load of media pro.. its actually disgusting that they sell it..
Both PC Suite and Media Manager tell you to assign your USB connection to “phone mode”.
It works for PC Suite but the phone doesn’t show up on MM. Tried Version 1.0. Upgraded to 1.1 - it still doesn’t work.
Piece of Crap.
Congratulations to Sony Ericsson for making the clunky Nokia PC Suite look totaly smooth and Ferrari-like.
Quero Saber o serial do programa.
This has to be the worst software I have ever used connects to the phone takes 20 mins to find files takes just as long to transfer songs to the phone. Took it to the shop where I bought it and they had the same problems
Aye, I’m having troubles too. File transfers keep freezing and the software in general is glitchy as hell.
WTF.
MM 1.2 build 610 won’t see our brand new SE w510i. PC Suite sees it fine in Phone mode.
anyone else have this problem?
Yeh I Have C902. And Reconises It Phone MOde, Not File Transfer, Help Anyone? plz x

PC Suite should recognize your phone when it is connected via USB in “Phone Mode”. The Media Manager software will only recognize phones connected via USB in “Mass Storage” (aka ‘File Transfer’) mode or in MTP (aka ‘Media Transfer’) mode. You will most likely have much faster file transfers if you use USB Mass Storage mode. Of course, your PC will need to recognize that your phone is connected as a mass storage device. To verify, go to ‘My Computer’ and make sure that your phone and its memory stick are listed and have been assigned an appropriate drive letter. You may also want to check your phone settings to make sure it is going into the correct mode when you connect it to your PC via USB. To do so (on most newer phones), on the phone go to ‘Menu’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Connectivity’ > ‘USB’ > ‘USB default mode’ and make sure you have ‘Show menu’ or ‘Mass storage’ selected.
Still have problems here. It can;t even transfer any songs to my phone - w760i in Media Transfer at all. wat a let down
I would like some assistance on transfering videos from my computer to my phone model # W320a.
I bought Media Manger Pro and when I transfer video to my phone (mpeg, 3gp, avi) the phone only plays the audio and not the video. It reads as an MP4 file. What can I do to fix this?
I purchased the Sony Ericsson walkman phone and have been trying for days to put music on this thing. I have read all of the directions and have downloaded everything that is says to. PC Suite recognizes my phone in phone mode but when I go to Media Manager it will not recognize it in file transfer. I have seen other people are having the same problem i am. I am no this stupid! It seems like this is way to complicated. Someone PLEASE help me!!!!
@ MIstie
try this: on your walkman phone, go to control panel and select connections… select USB connection & pick File Transfer Mode. then connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable. start SE PC Suite, now it will detect the phone in File Transfer Mode or alternatively, you can just drag & drop your music files into the memory stick because the computer will detect your phone as a usb drive.
Hi. Perhaps the problems with the walkman phone could be as simple as mine. Below I include the first response from SonyEricsson (which did not help me) but the real answer for my phone was that the memory stick was not being recognised, I simply opened it up, took it out (needed a pin to do this) and put it back in making sure there was an audible click. Hey presto now media manager works!
We are sorry to hear of the problems that you have had whilst trying to connect your Sony Ericsson W580i to your PC.
We suggest making sure that you have the latest version of the Sony Ericsson PC Suite installed on your PC, this can be downloaded by going to http://www.sonyericsson.com/support. Please follow the steps below.
1.Select UK
2.Select your model of handset
3.Select Software Downloads
4.Select the Sony Ericsson PC Suite
5.Download and install this version.
If it is the unfortunate case that the issue continues then you can run through the steps below.
The first thing to do is to check that the drivers are installed correctly. The best thing to do is to connect the handset and then open the Device Manager.
If you are using Windows XP then please follow the steps below.
1.Open the Control Panel
2.Select System
3.Select Hardware
4.Select Device Manager
Check through the Device Manager for any entries under Other Devices. If there are any entries then right click these and select Update Driver. This will then open a Hardware Update Wizard. Select install automatically and the drivers will be installed correctly. You may also have Found New Hardware wizards appearing on screen, all you will need to do is to run through these in the same way.
If you are using Windows Vista then please follow the steps below.
1.Open the Control Panel
2.Select System and Maintenance
3.Select System
4.Select Device Manager.
Run through the same steps as listed for the XP driver troubleshooting.
Once you have been through the Hardware Wizards we suggest that you restart your PC. Once the PC has been restarted go back into your Device Manager. Enter the Ports (COM and LPT) section. There should be two entries in here if your handset is installed correctly. If not then you will need to make sure that all of the drivers have been installed correctly, again check for Exclamation marks and Question marks.
If the two entries are listed then we suggest opening your Sony Ericsson PC Suite, you may get a Phone Connection Wizard appearing, if so run through this. If not go into your How to Connect option in the Sony Ericsson PC Suite.
If you are still unable to connect your Sony Ericsson handset then it would suggest that there is a software conflict on the PC, such conflicts can be caused by Anti-Virus and Firewall software as well as other security software and/or other handset or synchronisation software. Any Anti-Virus and Firewall software should be temporarily disabled and then try to connect the handset again, if you are still unable to connect then we suggest removing your current version of the Sony Ericsson PC Suite and re-installing the version of PC Suite from our website. The reason that software conflicts occur is any security software such as Firewalls will view the Sony Ericsson handset and PC Suite as malicious due to them being communications based.
Please ensure when installing this version of the Sony Ericsson PC Suite your security software is fully disabled.
If you also have other handset or synchronisation software then unfortunately we do advise this is completely removed before re-installing the Sony Ericsson PC Suite, this does also include other versions of Sony Ericsson software, we apologise if this does cause any inconvenience.
Please note that within your respective security software there may be a way to configure it to allow the Sony Ericsson software to run without being blocked or conflicted with after it has been re-installed, for further information please contact your security software vendor, e.g. Symantec, McAfee etc.
If you do have any other queries or need any clarification on any of the above steps please feel free to contact us via telephone on 08705 237 237 and we will be more than happy to help.
i have payed for the upgrade but nothing has happened are you supposed to get a email with a serial number? i still cant transfer anything from my phone to my computer! what is the point of this stupid software its crap
I purchased the pro version because it is supposed to be able to handle conversion of many different video formats. I’ve tried mpeg1+2, XviD,DivX,MP4 and others (I even converted to QuickTime in Vegas - Sony’s own video production suite).
I’ve still not managed to get a single one of my videos to play on my C902.
My advice. Don’t bother upgrading to pro. Don’t bother having any illusions about being able to play any of your own video on one of these phones EVER. Just be content that you can use the phone to talk to people.
I’m Server 2003 sysadmin with an extensive video production background. If I can’t do it then neither can you.
want to download media manager won’t let me do that but i try
Just Download the Magic Video Converter and convert the video into a 3GP file and then just copy it over after it has been converted. Easy as cake, why would you pay Sony even more money for something that easy???
I have the new Sony Ericsson W350 and I obviously used the program they told us to… the Media Manager thing. I downloaded it and it cannot find anything I plug in! Help me please!!!!!
My k850i phone is not recognised by media manager in media transfer mode when i have my new mem card in, but windows media player recognises it.
