Sony Ericsson C905 Questions & Answers

I promised that I’d do a post answering most of the tons of questions asked in the comments of the Sony Ericsson C905 post. So, this is what I’ll be doing in this post. Note, that it’s possible there might be some slight changes in the final production unit.

Q. What kind of phone is this?

A. It’s a quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE phone (all versions) with UMTS & HSDPA support in the European version (2100 MHz) and American version (850 / 900 / 2100 MHz). We’re guessing it’s 3.6 Mbps HSDPA.

Q. When will it be available and at what price?

A. It’ll be available in early Q4. We expect the price to be around £400 SIM free.

Q. What’s the camera specifications?

A. It’s an 8.1 mega pixel camera sensor (3264 x 2448 pixels) with auto focus and face recognition, and many more advanced camera features. It’s got a xenon flash for still photos, and a photo flash (the improved one) for videos. Videos are recorded in VGA resolution (640 x 480 pixels) QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels). It does not feature optical zoom. The focal length is 5.91 mm, and the aperture is fixed at f/2.8.

Q. What kind of display is it?

A. It’s a 2.4 inch large scratch-resistant TFT display made of mineral glass. The resolution is QVGA (240 x 320 pixels). It can show up to 262.144 colours (18 bit).

Q. Is this a smart phone? What’s the OS?

A. No, this is a feature phone, not running any sort of smart phone operating system. It looks like it’ll run a newly developed OS based on the older A2 platform, although this has not been confirmed.

Q. What’s the web browser in it?

A. Access NetFront.

Q. How much memory does it have?

A. 160 megabytes of internal memory storage, and a 2 gigabyte Memory Stick Micro (M2) comes bundled.

Q. Does it feature W-LAN?

A. Yes, it does, and with further support for DLNA. No details on whether this is 802.11b or 802.11b/g.

Q. Does it feature a 3.5 mm jack port?

A. No, it doesn’t feature a 3.5 mm jack port.

Q. Does it feature mobile TV?

A. You can have TV streamed to the phone via UMTS / HSDPA, but there’s no DVB-H support or alike.

I guess that was it :-)

I suppose this FAQ is your response to all the people who were asking about optical zoom over at Esato…I think on like five or six pages we do have at least one question regarding that matter :)

Isn’t it very odd they didn’t include touch functionality to the screen? I mean.. they’ve just invented this smart new interface for the c902 – then why not include it in the upgrade?

  7. Muhammad-Oli says:

@teamet: This is not an upgrade to the C902. They are separate model lines. My guess is that this is the K850i upgrade. Those touch sensitive buttons on the C902 are probably just a one-off for that phone, in my opinion.

Oh and I’m glad they didn’t include it. It would have meant either an even bigger and heavier phone, or a smaller screen, and on a flagship device that is not really logical.

    @teamet

The C905 will be running on an improved A2 platform, not on UIQ 3x, hence the lack of touchscreen.

    Poplover…

It seems most “big/important” phones these days are getting “names”. iPhone, Instinct, Voyager, Xperia, etc…

So Sony Ericsson is just going to call this the C905? Maybe I’m not sure if “codename” is a purely internal name for SE or if it will called that by consumers, and retailers as well?

Xperia is a brand name not a cellphone name just like Wlakman and Cybershot..
100% it’s going to be called C905 or C903 according to the new naming system
all of SE Insiders said that C905 so it’s C905….

Shiho cannot be the traditional name of SE Phone C905 of course it will be the well known name :)

Specially to other manufactures >>> not mean Samsung and Nokia at all hehehe :D

  23. Michell Bak says:

Nope, I’ve got no idea about the processor. It’s not really the first time – the K850 and alike are also capable of encoding in VGA, Sony Ericsson have just chosen not to include it. It won’t be more powerful than X1, that’s for sure. And with regards to Paris, there’s thing called incompatibility, meaning not everything will fit/work in every device.

Yes, it does feature an accelerometer, which is required to auto rotate stuff.

I don’t know what to say about this phone??? It’s good but still not what SE should have come up with a flagship Cybershot phone…

The G900 has touch autofocus (I know many won’t use it but it will be fun to use, atleast for me) and the X1 can capture images and videos in widescreen (I know most people don’t care about this but I would love this feature, also SE Japanese phones have this too)…

But these are not that huge drawbacks for me, for me, the lack of Optical Zoom is… I know it’s not a digital camera but I don’t wanna carry a seperate one in my pocket, I would want my High-End Cybershot Flagship Phone to be able to do that…

Well, I think that this would just be the perfect mobile for me. I just have a few questions:
What resolution will be the video out and using what av connection?
Will this “cable” be completable on older phones without additional se software?
I would most likely get this phone instead of getting the new iPhone, but is it gonna come out the same time as the xpepria?
