Press the photos below for the full size ones. This is still prototype software, and the colours have not yet been dealt with, but the quality KICKS ASS, DUDES! I can feel Nokia, LG & Samsung shaking their pants right now. Sony Ericsson is on top, long live the king of mobile photography!

Wow
nice sharpness, very very detailed, no more purple fringing except the red cast which is also seen on K800 proto pics before – but that can be fixed with right color calibration at least compared to the former(i refer to purple fringing) which is casued by lens and sensor error.
Details kill the best european camera phone Nokia N82 so far

Pretty detailed images. SE’s on top of the camera phone segment again!

I’m not quite sure on the pictures. When i checked the picture properties the first pic says camera model = Q440i which i would believe belongs to the upcoming C905. The last pic however says Camera Model = DSC-P8 which is belongs to a 3.2 megapixel sony cybershot camera.
Also, if that’s how the pictures of an 8.1 megapixel prototype looks like now.. then i guess we will have to wait until next year to see it in “full color”?
I’m just asking ok.
As i’ve said in my blog.. i think this baby will be the reason why i’ll get an SE phone!

Crappy photos.
Take OmniVision 8 megapixel OmniBSI sensor
Take DECENT lens, not the crap used in C902 (camera comparison between Nokia 6220 classic and SonyEricsson C902 can be found here: http://smape.com/en/reviews/sony_ericsson/Sony_Ericsson_C902_cam-rev.html )
Take image processing from good old Sony digital photo cameras
Make a good advertising campaign
And you have the best-selling camera phone EVER
The current C905 I can see won’t make any revolution, Samsung promised we’ll see 8mp camera phones before the year ends and they intend to keep their promise about crappy picture quality. Yeah, crappy. Its super-noisy, even though its super-bright conditions, should have been better. Its going to be a disaster in low-light conditions.
But I can’t argue with the fact that the shots are pretty sharp. Its just that the sharpness is not the only factor…

MiGs – “The last pic however says Camera Model = DSC-P8 which is belongs to a 3.2 megapixel sony cybershot camera.”
Huh? All three images said Q440i when I looked just then, and I know thats the C905 from the leaked pictures which showed that codename on screen.

I don’t see how these are great pictures.
The colour is awful, the contrast is awful, and the so-called ‘detail’ is just oversharpening of smudged up ‘noise-reduced’ colour. Some of you must be delusional.

Look, there’s a huge difference between colours and quality.
The colours and contrast is far from good, but the level of details is simply amazing. There’s not a simply phone on the market that can compete with this level of details.

stop judging the retail version as crap.

yeah. like the editor said, its a PROTOTYPE. nothing is certain for now. so i guess we should reserve our comments for the picture quality for the final RETAIL version. though i admit the colour is awful in this prototype sample, but keep in mind it is A PROTOTYPE. =)

How about a C905 Video Sample? That would be nicer

Am sure SE will be addressing the issues we’ve all noticed here. So let’s all just stop criticising and continue admiring this beauty!

i think the photos are horrible, well, to be fair, they probably havent tweak the firmware yet. I dont like the photo quality of the C902 either, which I’m currently using. Why cant Sony Ericsson Cybershot perform as well as SONY Cybershot ???

sorry, but this doesn’t look good at all. the image is very flat and I see lots of compression in the images. you would expect much higher quality from 8 mega. my 5 mega can make better pictures than this. this looks dull to me.

Hello to all.
I just want to add that I have been using the phone for some days now and it is really impressing.
The photos uploaded are with an old sensor which is used in prototypes for show off purposes.
These photos are not representative photos of the phone at all!
The photos I have taken with the lastest hardware are just amazing and with minimum noise.
Please the administrator can contact me and I can share with all of you.
I can tell you that this is the most amazing Sony Ericsson phone.. (Like all the rest!)

These pictures is horrible…
Why 8Mp for that? Big Big Big noise (no comment on the treatment), lot of purple fringing, poor contrast… Reduce to the pc screen size(it’s still a big size for a foto), the k810’s picture looks better.
A 8Mp camera is just need for printing poster…you print this picture in poster format?? Not me
A mobile have big limitation on the lens, perhaps it’s a better choice to improve that! But the 8Mp write in big on the mobile is most impressive for the marketing…don’t trusted by that!

> Why cant Sony Ericsson Cybershot perform as well as SONY Cybershot ???
It could -but nobody would buy a phone which is as big as a mobile phone combined with a sony cybershot – it would be 3 times the volume of any current phone. You can’t defy the laws of physics – good pictures require a good lens and a good lens HAS to be big – it’s not a limitation of technology, it’s a limitation of the laws of physics. You will NEVER EVER be able to take decent photos with something which has a 3mm lens. If you want to take decent photos, buy a proper big camera with a physically large lens. They increase the megapixels for marketing reasons, but you’ can probably see yourself that the picture quality isn’t really better than a 2 or 3MP camera – it just produces larger files which take up more storage.
Those pictures are NOTHING LIKE as good as the 2MP images from a cheap compact digital camera I bought 5 years ago. They don’t even vaguely come close – yet they are 8MP. Megapixels above 3 are meaningless anyway unless you intend to print out your camera phone pics at sizes larger than A3 (unlikely).

these are the sharpest photos ever to come out of a phone! with GPS, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, (hopefully) support for 16GB M2, and 8MP, I HAVE TO GET THIS PHONE
)
my only concern is the speed. My K850 takes around 6-7 seconds from when I click the camera button until the picture is taken. And often when you are eager to get the the photo taken, the flash won’t go off… My Canon IXUS 70 takes 2-3 seconds to do the same.
