Secret prototypes stolen from Sony Ericsson in Sweden

A Sony Ericsson employee in Lund has been caught in the act. Apparently, the man has stolen top-secret prototypes of unannounced phones from Sony Ericsson’s headquarter in Sweden. The stolen phones are estimated to be worth more than £61,000, and are considered being highly valuable for Sony Ericsson’s competitors.

The Swedish police made a raid at the man’s house in Skåne, Sweden, where the prototypes were found. Swedish police say that they found “a number of phones”.

Sony Ericsson’s Swedish PR presentative, Gustav Brusewitz, confirms the situation to IDG.se, but naturally he can’t say more about the phones.

I’ve really only got one thing to say about this man; what an idiot! Most people reading this know - or at least have an idea of - how incredibly strict Sony Ericsson’s security policies are. And then someone goes along and does this… Oh, the irony!

  5. [...] Naturally, no details have been released on the phones, but Sony considers them “highly valuable to competitors.” Based on that, I can only assume that the employee planned to sell them to the enemy like some sort of cold war cellphone spy. Either that, or he is just a really early adopter. [IDG via USEB] [...]
