Review: Sony Ericsson G900

You’ve been waiting, I’ve been writing. And I’ve just finished. This means… the Sony Ericsson G900 review has been published :) The G900 is in my opinion one of Sony Ericsson’s finest offerings, and its low price and strong feature set makes it a very attractive phone. Here’s the review excerpt;

The G900 and its sibling, G700, represent a new kind of Sony Ericsson smart phone products, that don’t look or feel like a smart phone, yet perform and deliver as one would expect a smart phone to do. These G’s are targeted at the normal everyday consumer, who wants a little extra something from his phone, while still keeping the price low. Both phones can be used almost solely without the use of a stylus, separating them from Sony Ericsson’s previous smart phones. In a very good way, that is.
The G700 and G900 will sell like hot cakes, and in this review, we’ll be focusing on the right-out-of-the-oven hot G900, with a few additional features, such as a better camera and wireless LAN (W-LAN), when compared to the cheaper G700.

You can read the large review here.

PS. With this post, we have officially broke the 500 posts mark :)

    When I look this phone why I have the feeling about bad and unreliable keypad?

    This was absolutely going to be my next phone, but I have to say I’m more and more seduced by the iPhone and come July 11th I think I’m going to go for it. Guess I’ll wait and see if the camera is a let down, but I’ll still have my K850i :)

    @Drasko:
    Your feeling is right.

    @Lee Richard:
    I just sold my G900 b/c of the iPhone. Directly compared, the G900 just looks like a nice attempt to reach the iPhone - but it fails badly.

    I was reeeeeally looking forward to the G900, but it is, compared to the iPhone, a bit of a let-down. Yes, it has all the nice features in a really sweet case (nice and small), but it doesn’t have this edge over the competitors. Switched directly from my P990i to the G900, the only major thing I noticed was the smaller screen and the - at last - sufficient RAM.

  5. Bibo says:

    The battery life is plain outdated, not speaking of the disgusting reception quality.

  6. ares says:

    Bibo, the G900 was never aimed at the iphone. They make it look like a normal phone on purpose.

    Regarding the keyboard, read users reviews…i don´t see people bitching about it in general

  7. Bibo says:

    I don’t need to read users reviews - I am “bitching” about it because I use the G900 since a week. But I will switch back to the iPhone. Sadly, b/c I did own every single UIQ smartphone from SonyEricsson. I just don’t see the neccessary evolution in these devices.

  8. ClyBoy says:

    Just wondering.. After Symbian Foundation announcement & a big layoff @ UIQ, who is risking to buy this phone anymore? :(

  9. Steve says:

    Two friends of mine have an iPhone and they love them. However, they can’t understand the reasoning behind the things omitted that are taken for granted on all handsets, smartphone or otherwise. Namely unable to forward a text message, no mms (though most of us hardly use that feature anyway) no sending/receiving of files via bluetooth and even via a Mac, unable to sync up todo notes.

    I am lead to believe that all these with exception to the file sharing can be fixed with firmware updates or 3rd part applications. We’ll see!

    Secondly, where I am in the world (UAE) the iPhone is sold unlocked which means unwarranted completely. Forgive me sounding old fashioned but if I pay out AED2300 then I want customer piece of mind. Hence why I’ll never own one while I am living here. This however doesn’t stop hordes of ex pats and locals alike shelling out the cash of this device.

    I have an iPod touch and there’s something to be said about buttons. I spend most of my time when writing and email deleting mistakes!

    Oh… in my first post, I ignored the topic; the review on the G900.

    I had a mess about with this phone in a shop here and I was very impressed with its features and interface. UIQ3 has got a slagging in general I have found, particularly with Mac users as neither Sony Ericsson nor any 3rd party developer has made a sync plug in or stand alone software for other UIQ3 devices such as P1, W960, P990. That said, some hacks have been achieved but with varying results. This in particular is why I never bought a UIQ3 phone.

    Until now that is, Feisar have made iSync plug-ins for the G700 and G900, but still no W960. Strange as they are both UIQ phones.

    This might be a next purchase for me?

  11. Manoy says:

    I really agree with Steve! i have na Iphone and it is really a mess in UAE. They are selling it on the Hyoermarket but not on Electronic and mobile store. Ive been using it and some features are not available because i cant download more files and programs, fir the reason that it will be bloced and again u need to give it back to the supplier and unlock it. im sure G900 will make a mark on the market because im satisfied on my previuos p990i phone and it serves me well on entertainment and on personal works.       G900 is an evelution of P990i means it adds more convinience and more bugs that have been fixed.

  12. Butterfly says:

    Hi,

    I’m from Sri Lanka. I’m hoping to buy a G900 for my brother. I need the longer talk time mostly. It says that it has 9 hour talk time. And I have no idea about  the level of reception. I’m using a Nokia N93. It has very poor reception and it takes almost 4-5 seconds to get the ringing tone of an incomming call. It’s very slow. Does anyone know about it’s reception level and it’s faults?

    I am going to buy this phone soon and thats what make me so happy
