Now, that’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout!!! That’s innovation! Sony Ericsson has just filed a patent on something very cool – underwater image capturing! The picture does look a bit weird, but I guess this would require the camera housing to be 100 percent sealed and not let anything in (like all the dust on the K850!). If they fail to do so, it will be a huge failure! Anyway, here’s the description from the patent and picture below
A housing may include a first portion that includes a window configured to allow a lens to capture images viewed through the window, and a first mating surface. The housing may include a second portion that includes a second mating surface adapted to mate with the first mating surface to form a watertight seal, at least one button to provide a signal to a terminal supported in the second portion, and a receiving surface on an inner surface of the second portion adapted to receive an insert, where the insert is adapted to be removeably coupled to the receiving surface on a first side and to receive the terminal via a second side.

Esato has a cool game called Playtime!, where the target of the game is to be the one to post a certain reply number (i.e. reply number 35). Then you’ll get a prize! I’ve won 6 of these rounds and have scored some Sony Ericsson stuff – a wrist strap, a SE fan and a black SE drawstring bag. Furthermore I’ve won some Motorola and Nokia stuff.
I would like to say thanks to Esato moderator masseur, who has made this possible, and also to PeterKay for donating some stuff!
Be sure to check it out at http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=161127&start=0

It looks like Sony Ericsson has filed a patent about some sort of clock display. Here’s how it’s explained:
The invention relates to a clock display and particularly a clock display comprising a combined electronic display unit and mechanical clock hands. The clock hand has a visible state for showing the time and a transparent state used when in it is not desired to obscure the underlying display unit. The clock display may be incorporated in a portable device, such as a mobile telephone or a wrist watch.
In addition to this patent, Sony Ericsson has also filed another one – this one being about a self cleaning display. The idea behind this patent – as described in one of SE patent applications – is to add a cleaning slider to the display and connect it to the opening/sliding mechanism of the phone itself. This doesn’t sound that nice in my ears and the concept picture does look a bit silly, too. I hope that’s not the best the R&D team can come up with!
Finally, the winners of the Sony Ericsson Content Awards 2007 have been found. In the category “Gaming” the winning game was “Playman Extreme Running”, in category “Imaging” the winning application was “Pull Face Image”, in “Productive Mobility” the winning application was (of course) “Opera Mini 4.0″. The “Music & Audio” award went to TrackID by Gracenote and the “Themes & Graphics” award finally went to “The geeks” themes and graphics. Furthermore Sony Ericsson felt it necessary to give a Special Recognition Award to “Vringo” for best use of the functionalities available in Sony Ericsson phones. Congratulations to all the winners!

Ah, finally! Now there are only two days left till I get my Christmas holiday – I can’t wait! In the mean time, lately I have not been so awfully busy with posting stuff here. However, I have been doing stuff “behind the scenes” of this blog (starting with this post) to optimize it and make more readers come to join the party here at USEB.
Later today I will post the news regarding Sony Ericsson I have yet to post. Oh well, dinner’s ready. Hope you’re all well!

I just found out that Sony Ericsson has published a survey, where they ask of your help. They would like you to answer a series of questions (don’t worry, it won’t take more than a few minutes) and give some grades in certain matters. Especially the last question is interesting – what kind of mobile user you are. My answer was of course “I want it all, and I want it NOW”
You’ll find the survey here – please take the survey, so we can get some better products

As an update to my earlier post about slow UIQ 3 downloads I’d like to say that after having downloaded several things with my W960 via WLAN, I can finally say that there are no problems with slow downloads on W960! I am now getting full download speeds at about 200 KB/s!

Z660i is a 14 millimetre thin clamshell phone with 3G. It looks like it’s going to be a nice phone – lets see if we can dig up some better pictures, shall we?
The codename of this phone is Becky. It will have a 2 mega pixel camera without auto focus and it will be running the A200 software platform.

According to an article at Digitimes, Sony Ericsson is revising its product orienting and channel strategy. This is because their plans of pushing low-end phones (less than 100 Euro) to the market didn’t come out as expected. The sales were below the expected and I’m thinking this is why Sony Ericsson’s market share fell a bit in Q3.
I guess this means good times for all us high-end users!
