First Orange W910 shipment recalled

Posted by Michell | November 13th, 2007 | 43 views

Sony Ericsson recalled the first shipment of W910 phones for Orange in the UK because of a series of firmware problems - one of these were that the phone turned itself off after 10 seconds of use. Another was that it would not accept incoming calls. Therefore Sony Ericsson recalled the first shipment and has now fixed the problems, the manufacturer says.

It’s a bit sad that W910 had these problems because it’s one of the highest spec’d non-smartphones Sony Ericsson has to offer at the moment and is the company’s best music phone available at the moment.

S500 review by GSMArena

Posted by Michell | November 13th, 2007 | 5 views

 s500_review_gsmarena.jpg

GSMArena.com published their Sony Ericsson S500 review yesterday. It looks like they’ve reviewed the black edition, which I find the prettiest. Generally them seem to be liking the phone as a mid-end solution, but conclude that there are better alternatives in the same price range - i.e. the W580, which has some added features and more memory for about the same price. Here’s the full conclusion for you guys.

Sony Ericsson S500 is a mid-range slider of slim design and daring exterior, which offers very standard, not to say unoriginal, functionality. Available for around 225 Euro, the S500 is easily challenged by a number of Sony Ericsson models offering respectable functions in this price range. Which way you will go is just up to you.

The S500 will easily appeal to the senses, but the Walkman W580 could well be the more reasonable option. FM radio, fitness application, superior headset, and a 512-MB memory card are enough features to make the Walkman phone worth the additional investment.

You’ll find the review right here - and don’t forget that you can read my review of S500 here :-)

A rather biased review of W910 by Mobile-Review

Posted by Michell | November 13th, 2007 | 0 views

w910_review_mobile_review.jpgLooks like Mobile-Review has seen themselves pissed at Sony Ericsson for some reason - because lately all the reviews of Sony Ericsson phones have been very bad and totally incorrect in my opinion. Looks like Eldar has lost his touch.

Anyways, they’ve now reviewed the W910, and end up by saying that it’s not a music phone. I really couldn’t believe it - what a lie it is! I’ve tried out the W910 myself and was amazed by its music features and very elegant & slick design. But apparently Mobile-Review thinks otherwise.

Future of Sony Ericsson

Posted by Michell | November 13th, 2007 | 0 views

I just read an article about Mobile Future conference in Stockholm some days ago, where Ericsson’s Bengt Stavenow was talking about the future of Sony Ericsson and its features. I’ll just do a short round up for you guys.

  • All Sony Ericsson phones have focus on cost, battery time and size. If a phone doesn’t have a certain feature, it could be because it hasn’t been “compatible” with one of these three things.
  • Phones with more networks supported (all in up) will come soon
  • 100 Mbps network speed within few years, whereas we’ve got up to 7.2 Mbps HSDPA today.
  • More megapixels, but optical zoom will be required for good image quality in a near future.
  • Mobile TV is in the works - but what’s important is not what technology that’ll be used, it’s that the consumer gets the TV (streamed) to his phone. This could be a sign of SE finally choosing DVB-H instead of MBMS, which uses 3G.
  • Usability and ease of use is important - users must be able to do things with a single click - like saving your camera pictures or sending them off in a MMS.
  • “Design is king” and “no technology carries its own weight”, he concluded.

Christmas is coming!

Posted by Michell | November 13th, 2007 | 0 views

Indeed it is, and so I decided to update the header image of the blog to get us all in the joyful Christmas mood :-)
To those of you saying it’s too early, well, the stores and malls around me have already started the Christmas decorations, and I’d bet the ones around you have as well. Besides, there’s not too long again these days - about 40 days or so, right?

So with this new header image goes an early “merry Christmas!” to you all from me :-)
PS. I’ve not forgotten this is a blog about Sony Ericsson - but I guess a single post once in a while won’t hurt anyone ;-)

I’m going to test Sony Ericsson phones

Posted by Michell | November 12th, 2007 | 2 views

Yes, that’s right - me! I am going to test out Sony Ericsson phones in a somewhat near future. But that’s not all - they won’t be 100% production models, so I’ll be able to give you an insight of some phones before they’re out, so you can more easily decide whether this is the phone for you or not, and if it is, this will give you some time to save up some money for it! ;-)
So again, watch out for this space, as I’m counting on having some more details later this month :-)

How to: Use your PC’s Internet connection on your A200 mobile phone via USB

Posted by Michell | November 11th, 2007 | 167 views

If you’ve been wondering how you can use your PC’s Internet connection on your Sony Ericsson A200 mobile phone, then wait no more because I have the answer for you!

But first of all, let’s make sure that your phone is really running the A200 platform - right now there are K530, K630, K850, V640, W890, W910 & Z750 running this platform, but more will come in the future. The easiest way to know if it’s A200 or the old A100 is by looking at the softkeys - if there are two softkey options in the phone, it’s A100, if there are three, it’s A200. Quite simple, right?

Anyway, lets get on with it. Please note that you must have PC Suite 3.0 installed on your computer and you have to have had the phone connected to the PC first, so all drivers have been installed and are working. Also please have in mind that I’m running a Danish version of Windows XP, so my translations might not be totally accurate with the English ones - and it may not be the exact same way to do this on Vista!
