No local repair service anymore!

January 2nd, 2012 by Flo95

Today I went to a shop to get my Xperia Arc with the crack above the sensor fixed and they told me that SE has forbidden local repair since 2012.
At first I was very angry and then I had a chat with employee of SE.
He said that’s right, there’s currently no local repair and I should send my phone in, which I don’t want as the shop I went to would do it in 30-60 minutes.
Of course I asked for the reason and he told me that they made bad experiences with some local repair shops and they are currently search the shops they want to work with in future, too.
I don’t know if that’s everywhere or just here in Germany.
But be prepared to not get your phone repaired without sending it in.
I think I wait with my Xperia Arc and see if they allow it again in near future.

New Music player skin leaks

January 2nd, 2012 by neofactor.is3
Sony Ericsson’s default music player on its android devices is compact and well polished and it’s a joy to use if you have tried it at least once. Nevertheless, it’s a truth that there is nothing unique in it; all the android phones offer the same features. Now that the ICS is coming to all 2011 Xperias in less than four months, there has been speculations regarding how things will look in the end. Music player is the one that needs a new look and feel.

To spice up things, there are a couple of leaked music player screen shots available which could be part of not the ICS, but gingerbread (the status bar says it all). It has a windows phone’s feel throughout.

The picture of the graphical equalizer feels so great and will be better once it’s ported to ICS.

Cyanogenmod 9.0 for Xperia arc released

December 24th, 2011 by neofactor.is3

Yes, The Xperia arc owners get a Christmas present from the FreeXperia development team. It’s CM 9.0 alpha. If you don’t know what it is, it’s an ICS based ROM waiting for you to dowload.

Since it’s an alpha release, obviously there are features that are not working:

  • CAMERA
  • USB MTP – for now only from console
  • USB MASS STORAGE – for now only from console

Features working (fully or partially):

  • GRALLOC – with bugs
  • AUDIO – ok – compatibility
  • GPS – ok
  • WIFI – ok – new wl12xx_mac80211
  • TOUCH SCREEN – ok
  • CWM RECOVERY 5.5 – ok
  • Bluetooth – ok
  • 3D – partial – sometimes crashes
  • GSM – ok
  • GSM DATA – buggy – for some networks works for some does not work
  • HOTSPOT – ok – command line for now
  • VIDEO DECODER – fully accelerated

Don’t get worried with the disabled features like the camera; it’s just an alpha ROM now but things can get improved, and it takes time. You can always give it a try, at least till we see the ICS release from Sony Ericsson.

More proofs for Sony Ericsson Aoba (LT28at/LT28i)

December 23rd, 2011 by neofactor.is3

We have been hearing a lot of rumours recently about the phones Sony Ericsson currently working on; like the Nozomi and ST21. It seems more and more phones arise as we have proofs of another phone code named ‘Aoba’ (LT28at, LT28i). It’s spec sheet includes,

  • 1.5GHz dual-core chipset.
  • 4.55-inch (720 x 1280) reality display.
  • a whopping 13MP rear camera.
  • and a 720p front facing camera.

The proof I mentioned earlier is in the form of a picture sample from this phone.

It is expected that the phone will have two versions; one for the United states (LT28at) and the other (LT28i) a GSM version for the rest of the world.

What’s more in the Ice Cream Sandwich update?

December 22nd, 2011 by neofactor.is3

Pleased with the feedback they got about the alpha ROM they released last week, Sony Ericsson published a blog post saying thanks to the public. They also requested to participate in a survey and let them know what more the customers need from them. From the comments they already received,  they have added some features and some are still in consideration as further tests are needed to make sure the finalised ROM is a fine tuned one. Also, they were not reluctant in publishing the features they are currently working on, to be included in the upcoming update. They are:

  1. Groups in the list of contacts.
  2. A mix of the Ice Cream Sandwich vanilla gallery app and the Sony Ericsson gallery app.
  3. The popular swipe to write feature, currently available in the Gingerbread software.

So, from what we hear from them, there is serious work in progress in the Sony Ericsson labs and lets hope the finalised ICS they serve will be delicious!

Xperia™ active; The Indestructible Droid

December 22nd, 2011 by neofactor.is3

Here is something interesting and really unbelievable stuff about Xperia active. The phone; as said by Sony Ericsson is meant for people with an active life. But when they defined it so, the company wouldn’t have thought how people would take it!

Yes,  here are some interesting videos on how a guy tests his Xperia active.

The screen test:

These videos are a solid proof of how hard the Xperia active is and how difficult is to destroy it; and that gives it the name, ‘The indestructible Droid‘.

Sony Ericsson confirms Ice Cream Sandwich release dates

December 22nd, 2011 by neofactor.is3

Sony Ericsson had confirmed the ICS update for all the 2011 Xperias a month back.  Since then they had been keeping in touch with the public through their blog posts explaining the development of a ROM and releasing an alpha version for selected models.

Now,  they have shed some light on the release dates. The update process will start in two phases:

  • End April/ Early May 2012 (for Xperia™ arc, Xperia™ PLAY, Xperia™ neo, Xperia™ mini and mini pro, Xperia™ pro, Xperia™ active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman™)

The updates will be a phased roll out over several weeks and all kits for a specific phone model will not get the upgrade at the same time.

ST21; Successor of Xperia X8?

December 20th, 2011 by neofactor.is3

Sony Ericsson released the Xperia X8 in 2010 as a mid range smartphone. They released the W8 later in 2011 with the same specs and a Walkman label, but the sales were not so impressive as X8. We didn’t see anything later from the company to replace these phones (Of course there were the Xperia minis but it’s a different story).

Now details of a phone (ST21i/ST21a) emerges which forces me to conclude that we’ll see a phone that could possibly be the successor of X8 and W8. There is no idea of the design of the phone since there are no pictures available but we do have the specs of the phone which includes:

  • 800MHz processor.
  • 3.2-inch display with 320 x 480 pixel resolution.
  • 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM.
  • 3.2MP camera.

The phone may be available in 4 colours. The screenshot above is the AnTuTu benchmark of the phone. The phone is expected to run on Gingerbread.
