New Nomenclature Of Upcoming SE Phones

Sony Ericsson is going to change its old nomenclature of their entire product range. Some among you were surprised of the funky and weird namings of the latest Sony Ericsson products. This scheme will answer almost all of your questions regarding the new namings.

The future names won’t carry the typical “i” in the end of the product name. So the R300 and the R306 are the first phones that follow this new nomenclature. It isn’t really new, since we know the same nomenclature from the Japanese phones already. And here we go:

To get the whole story completed - a brief explanation of the upcoming series and their lower end parts:

• XPERIA vs. G-Series (G stands for: Generation Web)

The G-series is the lower end series compared to the XPERIA series. Both are determined as dedicated smart phone series.

• Cyber-shot - Series vs. Snapshot - Series (new S-series phones)

Cyber-shot has become a well known and well beloved series within the Sony Ericsson portfolio. It will get a new “sub-brand” called Snapshot containing new stylish phones in different form factors poorer equipped than the Cyber-shot models.

• Walkman - Series vs. Radio - Series (new R-series phones)

The smaller brother of the Walkman line will be the poorer equipped Radio line. It will be a nice extension regarding the music department of Sony Ericsson.

Some examples on existing phones:

• C902 - High-End Candybar (Cyber-shot)
• C702 - Mid-Range Candybar (Cyber-shot)
• R306 - Low-End Clamshell (Radio-Series)

Successors will be indexed for example C912… C922… C932, and so on :)
As you can see, there are a lot of varieties and combinations… so SE won’t run out of new names that soon :D

Wow. This is a pretty big change in my opinion. I was wondering why the new phones had unusual indexes.

    RIP, old nomenclature.

AGAIN Unofficial SE Blog automatically detects my P990 as a mobile phone and does not allow to leave the mobile view. Can you do something with it? It was OK, I hate the mobile view on the smartphone! I want to CHOOSE!

so what series’ can we expect to be continued and discontinued???

    from what i’ve heard: X-series, G-series, C-series, W-series, S-series, and R-series are still in.

    T-series, Z-series, M-series, & P-series… what will become of them???

can someone please clear all this up in a simple easy to read way?

This is a big change, I hope it will make more clear for us to see, and this is good too, as what we can see now is that each series can be made in several form factors, the K series only had candy-bar form in all it’s phones, so we may see some Slider or Clamshell Cyber-Shot in the new C series :)

thanks m-one, and excuse me to translate it in Arabic for our readers @ se4m.com

    Doministry,

We’ll get that fixed later today. The blog experienced some database problems with a plugin a few days ago, so our caching plugin is caching the mobile sites, and thereby won’t allow you to leave mobile version.

I’m coming with a lot of fuzz from se4m.com, one of the team that managed to leak the last small slider says he believes that P series will not be vanished for sure, plus he says that the X series will remain Windows Media exculsive, and he still says that P series will continue to go…

  9. Michell Bak says:

    He’s right about the P-series, but not X-series :)

  10. m-one says:

I was told the P1i will stop shipping from September ;)
Also there was mentioned that the P-Series will probably be cancelled due to the fact that Xperia will contain high-end smartphones no matter if WM or UIQ powered.

So the cancellation of P-Series isn’t that sure at the moment ;)

  11. Michell Bak says:

P-series will remain. They’re for enterprise smart phones, while XPERIA is for multimedia phones.

does the k850 have dual card support? the micro sd would definitely be a cheaper(half the price of a m2) option but, but it seem like it would come out of the card slot once i stick it in.

  13. Michell Bak says:

Yes, K850 features a dual memory card slot. You can use both microSD and M2 cards, only one at a time, though.

However, this is not relevant to this post :-)
