Exclusive: Unveiling Sony Ericsson ‘Paris’

People! The storm is coming, and we just beat Sony Ericsson at announcing it. We’re of course talking about the mysterious, super high-end smart phone, often referred to as ‘Paris’.

We’ve gotten our hands on the official product video of Paris, and even though we won’t be able to show you the video at this point in time (wait two weeks!), we can show you a few screen shots from the video with the most crucial parts blurred out a bit.

Paris will feature a full keyboard in known P1-style - below the screen, that is! Why? Well, Paris is a slider! It looks drop-dead-gorgeous and is set to slay, yes SLAY, other competitors on the market. It runs UIQ 3.3, and well, have a look at the picture. That pretty much says it all.

Paris will be announced before the end of May, and will be available in shops as early September! We haven’t got a price tag on this baby as of yet, but we’ll definitely be trying to sniff it up! So, picture after the jump! We’ll show you a picture of the back a bit later on :)

Looks pretty sexy and minimalist. I likey. Will Shiho also be seen in 2 weeks?

  2. norti says:

This looks interesting but I still like the X1 better since I’m disappointed in UIQ…

  3. scotsboyuk says:

    This sounds amazing! :)

  4. NightBlade says:

Is it just me or does the screen look really really small for a P1 successor? I expected it would be around the size of the X1’s.

  5. m-one says:

It has almost the size of the X1’s ;)

  6. Harry says:

    @m-one…

Ok for the size, but why is not WVGA like X1???

  7. NightBlade says:

Screen should have definitely been larger.

  8. Harry says:

As the screen is not a widescreen, then is it equal to X1 in width or height???

  9. sermad says:

    ‘’shiho” will follow-up of K850i

  10. RandomCarpet says:

Maybe it’s the quality of the picture, but doesn’t look like high end at all.

  11. Muhammad-Oli says:

Yeah, the image has the vitals blurred out so it does look just a bit (heaps) average. Once we see a proper good image, it will be sweet.

  12. Kevin says:

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Mizzle, you, my friend, are my favoritest person in the whole wide world.

  13. Tigershark42 says:

Info sounds great! But the pic looks dissappointing. That looks to be low end, not high end. Also, I expected more of a ‘wide but slim’ feel to it, just like the W960i has. In the picture, it looks pretty thick. So its a rocker keyboard? :( I wonder if it uses a finger touch UI as was rumoured…Anyway cheers Mizz this is the best news post on the site by far!

  14. doministry says:

Well let’s wait for features and apps.
    For now, rather 2 disappointments:
    1. Screen size is small.
    2. Rocker keyboard is baaaaad.

  15. ares says:

Quite the opposite, rocker keyboard, like the name says, ROCKS, and makes the phone smaller :) I quite love the design. Now, confirmation on specs, its what we need

  16. Kevin says:

Indeed, specs are what we need. Camera, Screen, and Frequencies are the biggies, I think.

  17. Muhammad-Oli says:

Well, I don’t think the screen is small. Usually these types of things (official videos and photos) are photo-shopped, and so this may not even be a proper image of the phone, so the scale (in comparison with the hand) could be wrong.

I just put my W910i in my hand on the same angle as this image and it looks the exact same size. I would guess that ‘Paris’ would be bigger than a W910i! So if it is bigger, which it should be, then I’d say the screen is 2.8 - 3 inches.

  18. Kevin says:

I’ve never held a W910, but it looks about the same size as that (or my N95). Of course, how big the guy’s hand is also matters.

The screen doesn’t look WVGA, but it could definitely be VGA.

  20. Muhammad-Oli says:

Yeah, the size of this person’s hand matters, but even so, I’d say it either equals or beats the size of the P1 screen. Its not any smaller. I don’t think its WVGA either, but VGA for sure.

  21. razec says:

    @Mizzle:

-I think Paris is based on TI-OMAP 34xx platform, am i right? :-?

-From the UI view, it seems that those Widgets can popped up even with other application window is active. nice thing imo :)

This spypic had made all SE fansites active… again :D

  22. Michell Bak says:

  28. Michell Bak says:

    Muhammad-Oli,

It should be fun for both parts, meaning us and SE. We don’t want to damage the company in any way by revealing too much now

  29. Kevin says:

I must say this is an excellent move. I assume you got permission to post this, and I’m glad you did. This kind of leak was needed to keep the rumors alive and the faith from waning.

  30. Michell Bak says:

Yes, I did get permission, but not by SE! :P

    Sony Ericsson Paris Slider Leaked?…

We don’t have many details of this Sony Ericsson smartphone called the “Paris”, but se-nse.net claims that it’s a slider, runs Symbian UIQ 3.3 and has quite a large screen. Below the screen will be a P1-style keyboard, meaning two……

  36. jez says:

Disappointing so far…mediocre design, less than 3 inch screen, not uiq4(uiq3 is buggy…uiq should have moved on) and rocker keys(i prefer p990 type keys).

nearly there SE… its nice that all phone companies are trying to copy the iphone…. sorry but its still not good, you will wait 5 mins for the phone to find a service provider ( noramlly 3-5 secs with iphone) it will crash/freeze/go slow/ drop wifi and generally be a poor mans iphone ….. go to a shop use an iphone, try an unlocked iphone with all the apps working its an amazing bit of kit

  41. Kevin says:

    ^

I fail to see how a successor to a pre-existing product line of touchscreen SE phones that existed long before the iPhone was conceived constitutes a “copy.” Though, from your wild allegations it’s clear you have the intelligence quotient of cheese curds, so I’m not sure why I’m giving your response the time of day.

  42. stevejobs says:

    iphone = revolutionary device

  43. Kevin says:

“Revolutionary” = Marketing cliche with no real-world meaning other than to sell product to the uneducated masses.
