More leaked pictures of Xperia U (Kumquat)

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Expected to be announced in the MWC 2012, Xperia U (kumquat) is rumored to be a smaller version of the Xperia S, packing a 1GHz dual-core processor, 3.5-inch (480 x 854) display and a 5MP rear camera.

Now we have more pictures of the phone and this time it’s a sort of comparison with the bigger sibling, the Xperia S. The main difference we noticed is that the Xperia U has a removable battery where as the Xperia S has a sealed one. Everything else looks the same as Xperia S. Just see it yourself.

Sony Xperia S vs Galaxy S II, Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Razr

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

We have a couple of videos of the comparison of the new Xperia S with Samsung Galxy S II, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Razr. The tests include the browsing speed and the boot time. There is also a footage of the HD screen of Xperia S.

Xperia S clearly won the boot time test though the phones were not switched on simultaneously and Xperia S was the last to get switched on.

On the browsing part, the phone disappointed a bit but it’s not a big deal since there’s only short delays and the phone is running on gingerbread where as the main competitor, Galaxy Nexus is on ICS .

On the display part Xperia S packs the same 720 x 1280 pixels as Nexus but the screen is sharper because it’s 4.3 inches compared to 4.65 inches. (Xperia S has 342 ppi pixel density and Nexus has 316 ppi pixel density). Galaxy S II and Motorola Razr packs a 480×800 and 540×960 displays respectively. Take a look at the videos.

Sony to spend £15m marketing Xperia S

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Company’s new flagship, Xperia S is getting a lot of attention from the public. Many hope that the buyout of Ericsson from Sony Ericsson and Sony’s decision to revamp the mobile department (Sony Mobile Communications from now on) will eventually help the company to gain the number one position in smart phone sales.

Sony is now planning to spend £15 million in the first three months of the launch of Xperia S just for marketing the phone; that includes, TV, cinema and billboard advertisements. Xperia S is the first smart phone from Sony and there is no wonder why Sony takes it seriously. I think they believe in “Well begun is half done.”!!!

Photo Comparison: Xperia S and Xperia arc S

Friday, February 3rd, 2012
If you one among the people who think mega pixels doesn’t really matter in the clarity of a photo, here’s something to substantiate your theory. We have a couple of sample photos from the Xperia S (12MP camera) and the Xperia arc S (8MP). From what we see through our eyes it’s evident that arc S’s 8MP beats the S’s 12MP.

Arc S delivers a better snap in low light and normal light conditions. Just see it yourself.

Xperia S with an anti-stain shell and fast charge capability

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Sony’s new flagship, the Xperia S is to come with an anti-stain coating and fast charge capability. There are no details regarding this in their blog or in the phone white paper but the company’s Facebook page confirms it. Anti-stain coating is a nano coating on the phone that keeps the dirt away and is also UV active. PocketPC.ch recently spoke to a Sony Ericsson production manager and he also confirmed the presence of anti-stain coating on Xperia S.

It seems there is another interesting feature in the Xperia S, that is the fast charge capability. In detail, the charging time of the phone is considerably reduced. That is, the battery gets to 80% in just 30 minutes since it is charged on relatively high amperes and thereafter the current rate lowers until it is fully charged. In daily life this means a 10 minutes charge will give you a 1 hour talk time and if you charge your phone for 30 minutes, you easily get a day out of the battery. This sounds cool if it is true and is really a feature of Xperia S’s sealed 1750 mAh battery.

Update:

We have a video from Mobile-Review demonstrating the anti-stain feature of Xperia S.
