C902, X1 & W980 Hands-on Video

Monday, February 11th, 2008

My boss from work is currently finding himself at this year’s MWC, and last night he was enjoying himself with the latest Sony Ericsson offerings. In this video, he and official Sony Ericsson representatives – including Dee Dutta (!) – are taking a look at the new C902 Cyber-shot phone, the XPERIA X1 multimedia smart phone & the W980 Walkman phone. The video is mainly in English, so don’t worry about it being a Danish video :-) Press the picture below to go to the 6 minute long video.

As you’ve probably heard, Sony Ericsson will present some nice handsets at the MWC (formerly called 3GSM).

The press conference held under the motto “Big Ideas” at this year’s MWC will not only show us SE’s big achievements, but even a hell of a big amount of new great phones. smile (more…)

Mobile World Congress Mini-site Launched

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

i_se_grande_ideas.jpg

Sony Ericsson today launched an über-cool mini-site regarding the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (the congress formerly known as 3GSM) with to this point little information that we didn’t know already.

Most interesting part of the site that can be found here is this part:

… which seems to be a hint about the upcoming smart phone G-series, we’ll tell you more about one on one of the coming days.

It won’t be long now before the leaks will start hitting the world wide web ;-)

Z770i was only the beginning…

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Remember our little info regarding the Z770i? Seems the video is not taken by the mobile itself. Today a whole lot of these test_xxxx.mp4 vids popped out of nowhere into Fun & Downloads. You know, a pic says more than thousand words. See the full sheet with known phones greened out after the jump. (more…)

Looking Back At Year 2007

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

In this article we will take a look back at the year that just passed by our noses. 2007 was indeed a fabulous year for the mobile phone world, and so it was for our favourite manufacturer – Sony Ericsson.

SonyEricsson.com is the most popular

Friday, January 11th, 2008

It appears that sonyericsson.com has many more page views than nokia.com has. Furthermore, Sony Ericsson’s “web rank” is higher than Nokia’s. Looking at the daily reach, though, Nokia is in front by a tiny bit, but it looks like Sony Ericsson will soon be in front here as well.

The ranking of sonyericsson.com is 376, while nokia.com is 449. In comparison, samsungmobile.com is ranked at 3.152, while motorola.com is at 1.361 :-)

Well done, don’t you think? :-)

Audio and video podcaster for UIQ 3

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

My friend Sebastian Brännström (aka teknolog) and Lars Persson (aka AnotherGuest) have been developing a really cool freeware application for UIQ 3. It’s an audio and video podcast application called Escarpod. The graphics in the application has been created by Alan Eddie, who has done a fabulous job! I was first helping a little with the icons, but Alan’s are far better :-)

Escarpod was recently submitted to the UIQ Open contest and was then published on the project website on the first of January. Escarpod is currently in a beta 2 stage and the release version will come later in January with more translations (I’ve added the Danish translation!). Escarpod will run on any UIQ 3 phone, but it’s highly recommended to use it on one with WLAN to cut the data expenses.

You can read more and download the free application here.

The open source Bergamot project – as this UIQ 3 project has been called – also includes other applications and very exciting future projects and ports from S60 to UIQ 3. You can find more info about the project on its Google Code website.

New Sony Ericsson clock patent and 2007 Content Awards winners

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

se_clock_patent.jpgIt looks like Sony Ericsson has filed a patent about some sort of clock display. Here’s how it’s explained:

The invention relates to a clock display and particularly a clock display comprising a combined electronic display unit and mechanical clock hands. The clock hand has a visible state for showing the time and a transparent state used when in it is not desired to obscure the underlying display unit. The clock display may be incorporated in a portable device, such as a mobile telephone or a wrist watch.

se_cleaning_display.jpgIn addition to this patent, Sony Ericsson has also filed another one – this one being about a self cleaning display. The idea behind this patent – as described in one of SE patent applications – is to add a cleaning slider to the display and connect it to the opening/sliding mechanism of the phone itself. This doesn’t sound that nice in my ears and the concept picture does look a bit silly, too. I hope that’s not the best the R&D team can come up with!

Finally, the winners of the Sony Ericsson Content Awards 2007 have been found. In the category “Gaming” the winning game was “Playman Extreme Running”, in category “Imaging” the winning application was “Pull Face Image”, in “Productive Mobility” the winning application was (of course) “Opera Mini 4.0″. The “Music & Audio” award went to TrackID by Gracenote and the “Themes & Graphics” award finally went to “The geeks” themes and graphics. Furthermore Sony Ericsson felt it necessary to give a Special Recognition Award to “Vringo” for best use of the functionalities available in Sony Ericsson phones. Congratulations to all the winners!

W960 has no slow downloads

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

As an update to my earlier post about slow UIQ 3 downloads I’d like to say that after having downloaded several things with my W960 via WLAN, I can finally say that there are no problems with slow downloads on W960! I am now getting full download speeds at about 200 KB/s!
