Sony Ericsson’s Premier3 Walkman

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

On January 29, AU by KDDI, the second largest operator in Japan, announced its’ new spring collection of phones.  Two of the nine phones are from Sony Ericsson, namely the Premier3 Walkman and S001 Cybershot.

Premier3 Walkman

Leading the entertainment lineup of AU’s Spring Collection is Sony Ericsson’s Premier3 Walkman.  This phone is the second phone to feature Premium Player, an exclusive Walkman Music Player for Sony Ericsson Japan.  Premium Player works with the Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE), delivering ClearStereo and ClearBass through the headphones and speakers.  Although it is not exactly clear what the “3″ stands for, one can assume that the phone has 3 different styles, “Music Style” “Keitai Style”, and “Theater Style.” (more…)

Latest rumours from Sony Ericsson in Japan

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

A few pictures of two upcoming Japanese Sony Ericsson phones were posted over at Esato today. While there are yet no names of these phones, we do have a few specifications about them. One of them is a Cyber-shot phone and the other is a Walkman phone.

The Cyber-shot phone is a slider phone with a 3.3-inch high-resolution OLED display at 854 x 480 pixels. The camera resolution is at 8 megapixels, and it features auto focus as well. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have either a xenon flash nor optical zoom. If it’s anything like the SOc905iCS, it’ll support Smile Shutter, BestPic, record videos at VGA-resolution, and such. It’ll come in three colour variants; Black, Magenta, and Olive & Gold.

The Walkman phone is a so-called Premium Walkman phone, based on the new KCP+ platform, which – according to the post – is still a bit buggy. The phone seems to be a dual-hinged clamshell phone with a “small” display at 3 inches. The resolution remains the same as in the Cyber-shot phone – fWVGA (854 x 480 pixels). There’s an external display with a resolution of 24 x 288 pixels, too. The phone will come with a 2 gigabyte MicroSD memory card, which should hold quite a bit of music. It will feature a built-in FM transmitter and its speaker should be rather powerful. It is reported being between 16.3 – 16.8 millimetres thin. The camera will probably be a 3.2 megapixel one.

W395 aka ‘Yao’ is F305’s artistic sister?

Monday, January 19th, 2009

w395_yao

It seems Sony Ericsson will soon announce the F305’s Walkman sister. Today, Maximys over at SEMC Blog posted that this phone is going to be called W395, and that it’ll be announced relatively soon in order to be released in April later this year. The specifications are rumoured to be about the same as F305, although with the slight addition of the Walkman player, and probably a few music applications and extras, such as a large memory card.

The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is just around the corner, which will present an excellent opportunity to announce the W395. I guess we’ll see soon! :) By the way, the picture is not real – it’s made in Photoshop.

Sony Ericsson announces W705’s Voda twin – the W715

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

In addition to the W508 and the C510, Sony Ericsson also announced today a Vodafone version of the W705 and confusingly named it W715. The phone’s got everything its twin already features, but with a few extras as well. Like the W705, it features a 3.2MP camera with an LED flash, Wi-Fi, Clear Audio Experience and Clear Bass (a la W980 and W902), a YouTube player, Shake control and SensMe. It also has a relatively large 2.4″ screen and a  metallic body.

What’s different, though is that it also has a GPS module (like the G705, the non-walkman version of the W705), which can be used with Vodafone’s Find&Go service, which enables users to find “their nearest restaurants, hotels or shopping centres all within a few clicks on their new mobile phone”. There’s also the standard package of navigation software that comes with every aGPS-equipped SE phone. Some people should also be happy to know that the W715 now comes with an 8GB M2 card, unlike the 4GB one that ships with the W705.
There’ll also be a new colour – Galactic Black (pictured), in addition to the Luxury Silver one we’ve come to know from the W705.

Again, I remind you that this is a Vodafone-branded handset. Despite that, there is a possibility that there will be a non-branded version coming out in the Nordic countries.

Sony Ericsson announces the W508: Small, sleek & sexy

Today Sony Ericsson announces the successor of W380 – the W508. Similar to its predecessor, the phone’s exterior features 3 buttons which control the music playback and one OLED display, hidden underneath the glossy top part. Unlike the W380 though, it comes in a much sleeker, yet less extravagant body.

- “The W508 Walkman phone builds on our iconic Walkman range and the successful W380,” said Alexandre Cardon, Global Product Marketing Manager for Music at Sony Ericsson, and continues: “For those who like to express their style and individuality through their mobile phone we’ve brought our creative design team in to design stylish changeable covers so that W508 offers a truly interactive and individual experience.”

As a midrange Walkman phone, the W508 runs on the A2 platform and thus features SensMe and Shake Control (now with light effects!) in its Music player menu. TrackID is there as well, now also boasting text search. The phone comes with a 1GB M2 memory card. Some people will be delighted to know that it also comes with 1 additional Style-Up cover, which can be swapped with the phone’s generic one at any time. They’re quite well designed, too. (more…)

Sony Ericsson to glam up W595 with a new colour

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

sonyericsson-w595-sandy-gold-09

Sandy Gold’s the name. This is the 6th recolour of the phone, excluding 2 of the carrier-branded versions.
Sony Ericsson seem to be planning on releasing a multitude of colour versions for the W595, much like its predecessor – the W580.
Just hit the Source link for more pictures.

Some of you may remember that SE are to release a pink verion (Peachy Pink) of the phone as well.
