Another USEB W890 Preview

I received the W890 only a few days ago and it was love at first sight. I love the materials used and the colour variants look absolutely smashing. Build quality feels very good and phone is extremely sturdy. About 30 people have had a look at my W890 so far and all were impressed by the quality of it.

W890 is really thin and has a nice format and weight. It’s less than 80 grams and fits perfectly into any pocket. It feels nice to hold in your palm due to the rounded edges and the nice choice of materials (it’s metal!). Its “wow”-factor beats just about everything else on the market and - in my opinion - it looks so much better than the W880.

This is a Walkman phone so it is of course marketed at music lovers. It comes with a 2 GB memory card which can hold about 500 songs in MP3 format or up to 1,000 - 2,000 songs in advanced AAC codec formats. The speaker isn’t bad but it’s not perfect. It lacks bass and depth. However, if you decide to listen to the music with the bundled earphones everything sounds excellent and the volume level is decent.
The camera is a fixed focus camera with a resolution of 3.15 mega pixels. I’m finding it hard to see why Sony Ericsson had to up the ante on the amount of pixels. In my opinion they should have stuck with 2 mega pixels like on the W880, but again - it is a major selling point for unknowing consumers. The camera performs OK without being superb in any way whatsoever.

Call quality seems pretty good. Volume might be a little low (I’m in doubt whether it’s the phone or me) and the display seems a bit low on brightness (again, this might just be me). Speaking of the display, everything else about it is excellent! The colour saturation is very nice and it is unbelievably crisp. With regards to colour saturation I’d say that it’s on par with the excellent display on the K850. However the K850’s display has its pros and goes out as the winner in this small comparison.

Overall, W890 feels like a really neat phone. Personally, I feel like this is a must-have in my collection and I will now have to do a dig in my wallet to find some money to pay for one of these babies. Price is about £200 - £250, which isn’t too bad.
Expect an in-depth going review of W890 with lots of photos late this week. A gallery of the phone will come later today.

New Colour Variants Frenzy

Posted by Michell | March 16th, 2008

t650_new_red_colour.jpg

We’ve already got several T650 colour variants but an official photo of the IDC-24 fashion accessory shows that a red variant could be coming soon. This is destined to look good! Also, if you haven’t already, you can check out our review of the T650.

Also, W580 has been launched in a new green variant called Jungle Green. I don’t think it looks any great at all, but it might just be me.

The W380 has now also been launched in another colour variant with very little changes. This one is called Tangerine Black and is an exact copy of the Black Champagne variant with the exception of the Walkman logo on the front which is now orange and not golden.

Large W890 Review By PhoneArena

Posted by Michell | March 16th, 2008

 phonearena_w890_review.jpg

The guys over at PhoneArena.com has posted a brilliant review of the new W890 and are really liking the phone. It’s a very positive review and the phone ends up getting a 9/10 score, which is really good! There are lots of photos and well written text, so it’s well worth a read for people who are tempted by this beauty. One thing I don’t agree of though is that the silver version looks ‘common’ and is less actrative than the brown version - what were they thinking?!

You can find the review here :-)

W890 Preview

Posted by scotsboyuk | March 1st, 2008

I had a bit of a play with the W890 today and I have to say, it’s a jolly decent wee handset. I snapped some quick pictures of the handset for this preview, they are up to my usual high standard (that is they’re mince), but better quality pictures should be available for the full review.

Let’s get my gripes out of the way first shall we? The speaker volume isn’t too good in my opinion, being a little on the quiet side. At maximum volume the speakers do perform reasonably well, but I would have expected better performance overall in this department from a dedicated music handset. The speakers themselves are a little disappointing in that they are simply small holes on the front and back near at the top of the handset. The speakers aren’t stellar although they are better than one might expect in terms of their quality. It would have been nice if there were side positioned stereo speakers, but one can’t have everything in such a small package I suppose.

The size of the handset is obviously a major selling point in that it is very thin (only slightly thicker than its predecessor, the W880). I like the tiny stature of the W880, but not it’s small buttons, which is why I am keener on the W890 as it has larger buttons that are easier to operate. Not that one doesn’t occasionally press the wrong button on the navi pad, but for the most part it’s ok to use.

For it being such a small handset it does pack in some nice features, not the least of which is HSDPA data access, which makes web browsing nice and speedy. The usual features are present; the Walkman player, Track ID, etc. It’s not the most advanced handset in the world, but it doesn’t have to be. It sells itself with a well rounded package of features in an attractive form factor that will appeal to those looking for something stylish.

K660 & W890 Soon Out In Shops

Posted by Michell | February 27th, 2008

k660_w890_demo_3d_pic.jpg

The K660 and W890 models are soon going to be hitting the shops around the world. They’ll be priced somewhere between £200 - £250, which isn’t bad at all.

You can check out the K660 at Sony Ericsson’s 3D demo website, and spin it around to look at whatever detail you might want to look at.

The W890 websites have also been created now, which means you can check out a 3D demo of the phone, try it out for yourself or even go to the WAP portal and download W890 related stuff. What’s interesting is that the Espresso Black version seems to be missing from every single piece of media on the W890. I’m guessing it’s been cancelled.

I’ve already signed up for a W890 review model, and am expecting one to come along this week or early next week :-)
