Sony Ericsson unveils “Live with Walkman”

Four months after Mix Walkman, here comes Live. Not really a Walkman related name, but it certainly fits with the look. The newest phone from “Walkman” line, first Android-based phone from SE not Xperia branded, this phone has to be something special. Known specifications so far are: 1GHz processor, 3.2 inch capacitive screen with HVGA resolution unfortunately, 5 megapixel camera with Auto Focus and 8x digital zoom. Biggest surprise is front facing VGA camera capable of capturing 720p HD video! It has 320 MB or RAM, with tri-band 3G connection (HSPA+), or dual-band 3G, depending on model.

Software-side, it has Android Gingerbread, “Deep Facebook” integration (briefly, adds Facebook content to Photos, Phonebook, Calendar and such), Media Discovery, as seen before, that allows you to discover more music by recommendations both based on what you already listen, and what your friends on Facebook suggest. Infinite button within media player allows you to see more information from artists you are currently listening songs from. Simply, just tap the “Infinite” button and have instant access to latest albums, events, and lyrics. Qriocity music and video content from Sony- only Sony Ericsson Android users have access to this. Millions of songs, thousands of movies, right on your fingertips! Sony’s xLOUD technology, recently integrated into newest Xperia models, enhances sound quality at high levels. And a good old TrackID to find song titles based on recordings from microphone and FM radio.

Sounds promising, but we’ll have to wait for the revelation of price to see will it be success or not.

Sony Ericsson WT18 – another Walkman-Android?

A few days ago a white-paper of the Sony Ericsson WT18i appeared and now disappeared. It seems that it’s another budget phone like W8 and Xperia X8 and only available for Chinese market. Its OS is OPhone 2.5 – a Chinese Android clone which is able to execute every real Android app. It’s features are a Marvell PXA 920, 806 MHz processor, a Walkman player, a 16 M colour TFT, 480×320 pixels and single touch. But there is one thing strange in the picture: It’s launcher. Every HVGA phone has the ‘4-corner-launcher’ but this one not. There are only two solutions for this mistake: a mistake with the display (most possible) or SE adapted the launcher for HVGA.

150 MB internal space, up to 32GB

Sony Ericsson announces W8 Walkman Android phone

Today Sony Ericsson announced the W8 Walkman Android phone. Basically it’s just a XPERIA X8 for Walkman fans. It has a few design changes and a customized firmware for Walkman player functions.
A few facts:
It has a 3-inch screen, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 3.2mp camera. It uses the same launcher (4-corner-launcher) as the XPERIA Minis and will have a Walkman widget. The OS is Android 2.1.

W8 will be only available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. It will be released Q2 2011 in the colours Azure, Orange and Red.

Carphone Warehouse to Get Pink W995

From next month Carphone Warehouse will begin selling a rather fetching pink version of the ever popular W995. Up until now Carphone ha exclusively sold a silver version of the handset alongside the more common black version. From February it looks like the silver exclusive is going and a metallic pink version is coming in. I was told that the pink colouring is not too dissimilar to that found on the pink version of the Samsung C3050 so that should give you some idea of what it looks like. Pricing will most likely stay the same.

Quite frankly, I’ve never expected to see such a funny video about a commercial product on YouTube. Much less from Sony Ericsson (and even less from the other phone manufacturers, actually).

One of the few YouTube videos that have made me chuckle, really.

Sony Ericsson has managed to get Tom Dunmore, editor in chief of Stuff magazine; UK-based producer, Rob Lewis and film critic, Jaspreet Pandahar, each to do a short advertisement video review of Sony Ericsson’s upcoming Walkman king – the W995. Honestly, they sound more like representatives reciting the phone’s features rather than unbiased reviewers, so the whole thing looks kind of dubious. I can’t say I expected anything else, though. Here are the videos themselves:

The review many of you have been waiting for is finally finished! Sony Ericsson’s very own W715 has been described in detail by yours truly. What’s curious is that it’s actually a double review of the W705 and the W715, since they’re pretty much the same. There are also lots of photos, UI pictures and galleries. I would like to thank Michell for taking the photos of both the W715 and the C510 and for generally helping me out while I was composing the article.

So, we’re quite positive about the phone, really. It’s both elegant and sleek, has Wi-Fi and GPS and boasts superior audio quality. The price is also pretty adequate. Have a look right here:

And here we have yet another review straight from the GSMArena testing grounds. It’s about the mid-end W508 walkman clamshell – W980’s little sibling. Ther review is generally quite positive. They praise the sound quality (save for the frequency response), its overall functionality, considerigng it’s a mid-range phone, and the attractive price. Hit the source link to have a look at it.

S312 and W205 promo videos out

Soo Sony Ericsson has put up the promo videos of their new low-end, namely the S312 and the W205 on their website. But since their flash players are a tad inconvenient to embed (start automatically), we’re posting them in a user-friendly YouTube format. Or rather copying them, since we didn’t actually go through the process of uploading the videos. You can see them below.

In my opinion they’re quite good. Fantastic even. I mean, some of their high-ends have worse promotional videos (read W995).
