Video: Xperia arc Preview

Monday, January 24th, 2011

CES is well out of the way now and so far little more has been seen of Sony Ericsson’s new Android flagship, the Xperia arc. Have no fear though because HDBlog.it have managed to score two arc handsets (lucky buggers) and have put them though their paces on video.

The video pretty much speak for themselves so sit back and enjoy:

Video: Xperia arc Camera Hands-On

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

In the latest video in their series on the Xperia arc Sony Ericsson have released a hands-on video that takes a snapshot of the camera (what a pun!).

The camera in the Xperia arc has been given a bit of a boost over the X10 on a number of fronts. For example, the sensor is more sensitive to light with a bigger aperture on the cards too. The speed of the camera has been increased too with less time between shots and Sony Ericsson claim that this will improve further before the official launch.

The interface has also been tweaked so that the user has more control over certain features e.g. the flash.

Video:Xperia Play Pops Up … Again

Monday, January 17th, 2011

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (unfortunately abbreviated to SEX Play) has once again popped up in video making it undoubtedly the worst kept secret in the history of the mobile industry.

This time around we travel to the glamorous setting of a local McDonalds to watch an overview of the handset’s hardware. In the second video there is a bit more attention paid to the shoulder buttons and their usage and there is also some interaction with the software.

Video: PlayStation Phone Hands-On

Friday, January 7th, 2011

The PlayStation phone could very well be the most leaked handsets ever given how much of it has been exposed before its official unveiling. Not that I’m complaining mind you, especially as Chinese forum IT168 have conducted an in-depth preview of the handset.

Before we get to the videos let’s take a look at what’s been uncovered in the preview:

  • Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU, most likely with a 1 GHz Snapdragon in tow
  • 4 inch LCD screen
  • 5 MP camera
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 512 MB ROM
  • microSD support
  • micro-USB connector
  • second noise cancelling mic

Of particular interest is the benchmark score we get for this particular unit. Neocore gave a score of 59.1 fps, which is a massive improvement over the frankly weak 24.4fps that was registered in Engadget’s testing early last month. Granted that this is still a prototype unit so that may not be the final score, but it is still better than the Nexus S, which scored 55.6 fps.

Hands-On With Xperia arc

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

Sony Ericsson unveiled the new Xperia arc last night at CES during the wider Sony presentation. The device will apparently launch in Q1, which, if it proves true, would mark a new beginning for Sony Ericsson in getting a top tier handset out the door and onto shelves quickly. For those who simply cannot wait even that long rog over at SE-First has posted up a hands-on look at the device.

I’ve included the hands-on video below, but head on over to SE-First to check out lots of pictures and rog’s impressions of the device!

Video: Xperia arc Promo

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

The X12 pictured in the promo posters at CES looks to be called the Xperia arc according to a promo video obtained by Russian site Gagadget.

Specs wise we’re looking at a Snapdragon (just single core I’m afraid), Gingerbread and an 8 MP camera with HD support. In case you wondered the ‘arc’ name comes about from the curved back of the handset. You can check out the promo video below:

Video: Timescape/Mediascape Integration

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

A rather spiffy example of Timescape and Mediscape integration on the X10 here. Essentially what you’re looking at is a customised setup Sony Ericsson produced for Swedish network operator Telia. They have integrated Spotify so that it appears as an online music service in Mediascape with each track being played appearing as a panel in Timescape. It seems like a really nice solution, which makes you wonder why they don’t roll this out as a general feature.

The X10 Saga: Episode VI The Return of Multi-Touch

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

The ‘does it/doesn’t it?’ X10 multi-touch saga has apparently taken yet another twist if a video posted on a Japanese site is anything to go by. The video shows a user using Google Maps on his X10 and to zoom into the map he uses a multi-touch gesture. The video is below, you can skip pretty much all of it, the interesting part is 6:50 into the video, right at the end. Now maybe I am seeing things (it is after all ten past four in the morning here), but that sure as hell looks like multi-touch. If that is the case then it would seem to reinforce the rumour that cropped up the other day on mobiles.co.uk that the X10 did support multi-touch after all. There are two other possibilities though: i) it isn’t multi-touch at all, but something else (what though?) or ii) it is multi-touch, but only some X10s support it. Personally neither of those seem particularly plausible.

EDIT: Apparently what we are seeing here is a bit of a trick, albeit one you can replicate yourself. The multi-touch gesture is registered as a double tap, it isn’t registered as as an actual multi-touch gesture.

Check out the video for yourselves:
