Sony’s new flagship, the Xperia S is to come with an anti-stain coating and fast charge capability. There are no details regarding this in their blog or in the phone white paper but the company’s Facebook page confirms it. Anti-stain coating is a nano coating on the phone that keeps the dirt away and is also UV active. PocketPC.ch recently spoke to a Sony Ericsson production manager and he also confirmed the presence of anti-stain coating on Xperia S.

It seems there is another interesting feature in the Xperia S, that is the fast charge capability. In detail, the charging time of the phone is considerably reduced. That is, the battery gets to 80% in just 30 minutes since it is charged on relatively high amperes and thereafter the current rate lowers until it is fully charged. In daily life this means a 10 minutes charge will give you a 1 hour talk time and if you charge your phone for 30 minutes, you easily get a day out of the battery. This sounds cool if it is true and is really a feature of Xperia S’s sealed 1750 mAh battery.

Update:

We have a video from Mobile-Review demonstrating the anti-stain feature of Xperia S.

Today at approx 13.50 BST, Sony Ericsson started to roll out the Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) update for the Xperia X10. Rumour states that it was released in Vietnam first. It is still unclear if there is an update released for the UK at this moment of time or not, but if there isnt then it cannot be that far way. A few things though can now be confirmed:

There is NO multitouch (I do assume though that the dual touch is still there)

It is a modified kernel

FPS is still 30FPS

No 16M colours

I have also found a Youtube video of the new firmware, but it is rather short and sweet:

The new firmware isnt rooted at time of writing, but knowing the XDA devs, I dont think it will take that long.

For the past few days I have been monitoring a certain thread over at XDA regarding the Gingerbread update, mainly to find out when SE have released it, and where has it. We know that it is delayed slightly (maybe until tomorrow?), and of course with a post dedicated to the Gingerbread update, they certainly have a few facts, and even a couple of rumours.

For a start, the above image is the latest picture taken of a X10 running Gingerbread. Now what is confusing with this image is that appears to be using the same kernel as the current Android 2.1 update, which would mean that the new range of Xperia phones (like Xperia Arc etc) would still be quicker than having a new kernel for the phone. In fact one user claims that cos of the lack of a new kernel, that it is basically SE trying to release a custom ROM.

Then there is a youtube video of a X10 with Gingerbread:

It appears to be using the old UI for the Timescape widget, but then again since the video is so short it is very hard to form an opinion of the video. All we do know is that the person that posted up the video has said that that this will be out in a few weeks. Hmm. Ok, until we see the video below:

Now this looks a lot more official. Pity it is in <del class='bbc'>chinese</del> hebrew, but Im sure that this is pretty much what the X10 will look like once Gingerbread starts rolling out.

In any case, needless to say that for the update you will need to be running official stock SE software. And my tip to you is to run the generic kit for your region (or location, as thats what they are normally based on). Thankfully, another user at XDA has decided to post most (if not, all) the kits available. Now Ive just had a look at the topic, and I suspect that this is old firmware, so it might just be worth using PC Companion or Sony Ericsson Update Service to make sure you are on the latest firmware, this way not making you too disappointed if you see a “new update”, and then find out it’s not the Gingerbread update that most people want.

Another game is available for the Xperia Play.
This time it’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
It’s one of the most acclaimed action series of all time.
It features five intensely detailed battle zones and 14 single player missions. The game allows players to move through a rich and intense single-player story, using strategy and cooperation to bring down buildings, cause realistic destruction and battle enemies. So the players will have much fun and the game shouldn’t be too short.

Xperia Ray is a 3.3 inch smartphone with Android 2.3, 854 x 480 display powered by Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA engine and an 8.1MP camera with the Exmor R lens, just like the Xperia Arc. Play have this on pre-order for £349.99, and all being well will be released on 15 August 2011.

Xperia Active has a 3 inch touch screen, the usual 4 corned layout as used in the Xperia Mini’s, and also has a 5MP HD camera. Also, the lucky chaps at S-First.com managed to get hold of a Xperia Active, and here’s a video with what they done with it.
