Announcing USEB 2.0 (almost)

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

A few days ago, I asked what you’d like to see in the new theme, so I could do some possible last minute changes / additions. Today, I feel there’s nothing more for me to do on the theme, and I’ve fixed all my previous irritations as well as the stuff based on your feedback. So… I’m announcing it, with a SOON planned change of header!
USEB 2.0 – or v1.99b, as you’ll notice in the footer – introduces lots of stuff:

  • Fixed width, optimized for large photos
  • Clean, orange/grey design with easy navigation
  • Improved visual and functional experience
  • Neat and stylish comments design, extra cool if someone enters his/her URL
  • Comments and trackbacks separated (already added in previous theme, but never announced)
  • Improved Search feature
  • Improved Reviews page, and reviews look
  • Special ‘Error 404′-page

We urge upon you all to register an account at USEB, as this will make it easier for you to take part of the USEB community in comments, and alike.

Without further ado, welcome to USEB 2.0 – please keep the feedback and possibly bug-reporting coming! Have a look around, will ya’? :-)

What would you like in the next theme?

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

As I’m finishing up the upcoming new blog theme, I want to know what you guys would like to see in this theme, and if there’s anything in particular I should add to enhance your experience when you’re here. Please keep in mind that there are some limitations, and that time is of essence as well.

Thanks in advance, and I’m looking forward to your ideas and wishes :)

PS. Yes, that was yet another off-topic post, I promise it won’t happen any more today!

1-year birthday!

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

I can’t believe it! A full year has passed already since the first post on what used to be ‘MobileXpert’, which was my first English mobile blog about everything in the mobile world. After a month or two, I closed this blog, and started USEB, solely about Sony Ericsson phones, accessories and alike, with all related posts from MobileXpert as my foundation. USEB was an immediate success, and after only a few months in the game, we could call ourselves one of the best Sony Ericsson blogs on the world wide web.

During this year, we’ve expanded rapidly, going from reviewing own phones to being recognized by Sony Ericsson and granted access to review phones and other press related ‘bonuses’. Some of our most trustworthy readers will remember that USEB was once located at a WordPress.com domain, but due to an expanding act from our and SE-NSE’s side, we jumped to the current location, and we’ve been happy to be here ever since. Some may also have noticed our partnerships with other sites, and others may even have benefited from these.

In light of this ‘birthday’, as I’d call it, I thought I’d share some facts and numbers with you. This post will be the 450th post on USEB, and with a total amount of six posters with a broad knowledge on the subjects, covering all from news to rumours, I don’t think I’m wrong calling USEB the largest Sony Ericsson blog out there. During the past four months, our servers have served almost 620,000 pageviews, with a current average at 5,000 – 6,000 pageviews per day, which is something we’re of course very proud of. Our RSS feed counter today hit its up until now highest amount of readers at 630 feed readers – yet another thing we’re upmost thrilled about! This couldn’t have been achieved without you, though, and we’re pleased to say that this blog hosts no less than almost 2,500 comments!

On behalf of the entire team, I hope that you’ve enjoyed this year as much as we have, and we look forward to our next birthday – hopefully with you as a guest! Had it not been for a genious idea I got just yesterday, I would have unveiled our new blog theme today as a celebration and sign of what has happened. However, I’m quite sure you’ll like my idea once I reveal the new theme some day closer to the 17th :-)

Further Design Updates

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

You might have noticed it already – I’ve changed the design of the blog even more today, and I’ve optimized it as much as I can for lower resolution screens as well as high resolution ones. I’ve also added a few other things – one is the author post search. In every post, you’ll notice that the post author’s name is now a link. This link will redirect you to all posts by this author. Pretty neat, isn’t it? :-) I’ve changed a few other things in the formatting as well, but the main part of the stuff I’ve changed has been in the codes, making it a lot lighter.

I’ve tested it in Firefox 3.0 beta 5, Internet Explorer 7 & 8 beta, and Safari 3.1.1 with encountering any problems.

I hope you like this one a bit better than the ‘old’ one, and please do give me some feedback on it! :-)

New Design At USEB

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Today, I’m announcing a new theme design here at USEB. This one is meant to be lighter and generally better looking than the other one. This one is supposed to auto-fit according to your screen resolution, but we’d still recommend using a resolution of at least 1024 pixels in width. Personally, I use 1280 pixels, and that looks smashing! I’ve also just noticed a few formatting bugs in Internet Explorer, but I haven’t found any in Firefox, so that’s yet another reason for using Firefox. Anyway, it shouldn’t have an impact on the content, which should still be readable, although the theme won’t look that great.

So, have a look around, and please report back to me on what you think of it and if you’ve found any serious bugs. Thanks :-)

Maintenance upgrade

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

We’ll be doing a database upgrade of Wordpress now, so the blog might be a bit on/off during the upgrade. We expect to be back fully functional within 30 minutes.

After that, we should have an in-depth going review of the low-end W380 ready! :-)

Update! We’re back, now on Wordpress 2.5!

We’ll Be Back Soon!

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Some might have noticed the lack of posts in the last few days. This is because my main computer isn’t feeling too well (the display doesn’t work), however I’m getting a new one today or tomorrow and will hurry up on posting when I’ve set it up.

We’ve got lots of stuff for you – one of them being that I received a silver W890 yesterday. How about a small preview? :-)

Galleries – New Feature at USEB

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

From this day forward, you will be able to check out cool high quality photo galleries of new and older Sony Ericsson phones right here at USEB. We’ve just finished setting up a gallery page, and are slowly starting to upload photos. At the moment you can find photo galleries of the K850, P1, P990, W910 & W960. Furthermore, we’ve added a sidebar widget to display four random gallery photos.

What’s more is that galleries can now be added directly into posts! This can come in handy in the future – and it looks something like this

We hope you will like this new feature as much as we do! :-)
