Don’t you just love official ‘oops’ leaks? I most certainly do, and today just happens to be a day housing one of these ‘oops’ leaks.
The Chinese mobile and gadgets website IT168 recently published a series of photos from an official Sony Ericsson press conference, and on a few of the photos appeared some unannounced phones - the M610, T707 and P3.
The T707 is the most interesting of the bunch, as it’ll get announced shortly. Its codename is Elle, and it’ll come in a variety of colour variants. We know of five variants, but there may be more. From the photo we can say that the phone will be a quad-band GSM / dual-band UMTS/HSPA (up to 7.2 Mbps) phone, and it measures 93 x 50 x 14 millimetres. It’ll weigh 98 grams. It will feature a 2.2-inch TFT display. It seems to come with a 1 GB Memory Stick Micro card, and it’ll be based on the OSE operating system by Enea, just like most of Sony Ericsson’s other feature phones. Its hardware platform seems to be the Ericsson EMP U330.
And then out of the blue comes a photo of the 2007 portfolio with mentionings of the M610 and P3. The picture of the Walkman phone is apparently P3 (not true - and a fake picture, too). Not only is it weird that they included these two phones in the presentation, but it is more weird that they even got the picture of the P3 wrong. Shame on you, Sony Ericsson, for mentioning cancelled phones…
What you’re seeing on the left is the new Cosmopolitan Flower Edition of the W595. As you can see, it’s identical to the Cosmopolitan White W595, save for the flowery accents. It also has a flowery theme. And some flowery “beautiful” songs on-board. But wait, there’s more! It’ll also come with a small charm and a soft pouch, in addition to the standard in-box content. Turns out it’s not as identical as we’ve thought.
Sources say it’ll be available to select Western European countries from March. Oh, goodie!
Together with the W995, Sony Ericsson announced that its latest Walkman phone will be accompanied by a new media manager software called “Media Go™”. In cooperation with se-community.com, we have exclusively tested a pre-release version of the software. In order to give you the possibility to get a live impression of the tool, we will provide you with interactive screenshots where you can navigate through the different screens. You will find the link to this unique way of exploring Media Go™ at the end of this article.
The introduction of Media Go™ shows the intention of Sony (Ericsson) to participate in the growing market of online music platforms. Apple’s combination of iTunes and iPhone made a point - if you are familiar with Apple’s solution, Media Go™ will be an easy transition for you. Here is an overview on Sony’s new software functionality:
Media Management of Video, Audio, Photo and Podcast media on a Windows PC
Hassle-free synchronisation of above media files between PC and several mobile devices
Automatic conversion and optimization of media files to the destination device
Easy CD ripping
Integration of “PlayNow™” online music/game/ringtone store
Creation of SensMe™ playlists on the computer
Following formats can be processed by Media Go™:
Audio: AAC, FLAC, MP3, Wave, WMA
Video: AVI (DivX, XviD, MJPEG with necessary codecs installed), MPEG-4 AAC & AVC, QuickTime Movie, WMV
Photo: GIF, JPEG, PNG, Targa, TIFF, Windows Bitmap
All other formats will still be transferred to the mobile device, but without optimization (such as re-sizing, downsampling etc.)
When it comes to podcasts, the new tool offers the possibility to subscribe to a number of pre-defined podcast channels, or you can add your own list of podcasts. The synchronisation of all media files between your PC and your mobile phone(s) works just as in iTunes: for each device you can define which playlists, podcasts, photo albums and videos you want to sync. In addition, Media Go™ offers the possibility to automatically sync all the new files that are added to the PC’s library. Another nice feature: every media file in the library can be transfered from or to a mobile device via a right-click. Last but not least, if you are missing an album cover image, Media Go™ can get it for you from Gracenote.
By clicking on above picture, you are able to access some interactive screenshots of Sony’s MediaGo™. You can follow the navigational entries on the left hand side (marked by red arrows in above image) in order to see how the different screens look like. There are also some other links to e.g. preference screens inside of the application’s main window. We hope this will provide you with a better insight to the upcoming Media Go™ software!
Engadget has posted a video walkthrough of the Sony Ericsson Idou. It looks superb, don’t you think? Such a smooth interface already, and the platform is far from finished. Incredible.
That’s right. Today Sony Ericsson announced the mid-March availability of 4 new original panels. So, we’ve got a CNN panel for news, sports and weather reports, a Skype panel, the function of which should be obvious; a rather gambling-oriented Mytopia panel and a “On the Road” panel, which gives you access to the music player, easy call handling and navi tools via conveniently-sized shortcuts. Here are the details (quoting SE’s press release):
A new CNN panel keeps you constantly updated with the latest news, sport, or weather and a host of CNN content including access to CNN’s popular citizen journalism tool, ‘i-Report’. Browse information by category, personalise your experience or plug in your location and get instant updates for wherever you are in the world.
A unique Skype panel brings quick access to Skype on the X1, telling you at a glance which of your friends are online. Browse easily through your contacts and call or instant message them in just a couple of clicks, or customise your handset using the evening, daylight or event based effects.
For those who just want to have fun, a new Mytopia panel lets you play bingo and poker games with people around the world. With millions of users there is always someone online to play against or you can play by yourself. You can even collect virtual coins and improve your rank by winning live matches.
For those always on the move, the specially developed ‘On the Road’ panel includes large touch icons and a simple layout. Offering direct access to your music playlists and tracks, navigation tools and easy to use call-handling, this panel will makes your driving convenient and entertaining wherever the road takes you.
In the mean time, though, I recommend X1 users also check out this panel as well: PointUI (bottom of the page)
It is said to be quite nice. I can’t tell you personally, due to the fact that I don’t actually own an X1, but Michell (our editor in chief) says it’s great.
Have in mind that it’s a free beta, though. The full version will be paid when available.
