UIQ: G700/G900 notes application

Posted by Michell | June 4th, 2008

If you’re a UIQ 3 user, and you’ve got an older smart phone (before G700 & G900), you can actually add some functionality to it by installing some applications from the G700/G900 firmwares. After only having been released, the G700 & G900’s firmwares have been somewhat hacked, and a group of people have extracted some of the applications, making them available for all current UIQ 3 users. Currently, the torch application as well as the highly anticipated notes application have been extracted, and are available at UIQBlog.com with an install guide :-)

I must remind you that this is probably not supposed to happen, and I’m quite sure Sony Ericsson won’t be too thrilled about it, so you might want to do some thinking before installing these.

Tip of the week: Add folders to your file manager

Posted by Michell | November 18th, 2007

The standard set of folders in the file manager on Sony Ericsson phone contains Camera Album, Music, Pictures, Videos, Themes, Web pages, Games, Applications & Other. But what if you want more folders in there - say for your documents, secret files or modifications. What can one really do?

Actually creating these folders is extremely easy! All you have to do is connect your phone to the PC or open an application on your phone with full access to the files on your memory card (i.e. MobyExplorer). Next up, simply create a new folder on the root of your memory card and there you have it! Unfortunately it’ll be a standard folder icon, and these can’t be changed (yet - I’m still trying to find a solution).

That’s it for this week, hope you found it at good use! By the way this will work on just about all current Sony Ericsson phones with a memory card!

How to: Use your PC’s Internet connection on your A200 mobile phone via USB

Posted by Michell | November 11th, 2007

If you’ve been wondering how you can use your PC’s Internet connection on your Sony Ericsson A200 mobile phone, then wait no more because I have the answer for you!

But first of all, let’s make sure that your phone is really running the A200 platform - right now there are K530, K630, K850, V640, W890, W910 & Z750 running this platform, but more will come in the future. The easiest way to know if it’s A200 or the old A100 is by looking at the softkeys - if there are two softkey options in the phone, it’s A100, if there are three, it’s A200. Quite simple, right?

Anyway, lets get on with it. Please note that you must have PC Suite 3.0 installed on your computer and you have to have had the phone connected to the PC first, so all drivers have been installed and are working. Also please have in mind that I’m running a Danish version of Windows XP, so my translations might not be totally accurate with the English ones - and it may not be the exact same way to do this on Vista!
