Sunday Themes: Feeling festive?

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Intro by Michell:
We here at USEB aim to bring you the latest news and reviews in the industry, but we’re also constantly looking for ways to improve USEB by expanding our services and really trying to give our readers a better experience here. Today we’ll be introducing a new service at USEB, and we’ve decided to call it Sunday Themes. Every Sunday a series of free themes for Sony Ericsson’s feature phones will be posted here with a screenshot and download link. Picking out the Sunday Themes is Paul, who is one of the administrators of MMC Forums. I hope you’ll give Paul a warm welcome, and hopefully you’ll put his weekly recommendations to good use. I’m sure he won’t mind some friendly feedback either! :)

Enough said, and I shall be handing this post over to Paul:

You’re either going to love me or hate me for sharing these themes with you. Little bit like Marmite? But I’m hoping you’re all feeling as festive as I am and will appreciate the festive treat.

Personally I love the run-up to Christmas, I have my Advent calendar on standby!

For phones with a screen resolution of 240 x 320 pixels

Let is snow

Theme name:

For phones with a screen resolution of 176 x 220 pixels

If you’re not feeling quite as festive as me, then hopefully you will be now. I can almost hear the ‘Bah-Humbugs’.

New Version Of Themes Creator

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Sony Ericsson today published a new version of its Theme Creator application for creating themes for its features phones and Symbian based smart phones. The new version has hit v. 3.27, and will be adding support for the following phones:

  • C702
  • C902
  • G700
  • G900
  • R300
  • R306
  • T303
  • W350
  • W760
  • W980
  • Z555
  • Z770

There’s still no sign of support for the XPERIA X1, although Sony Ericsson has said it’ll support it in a near future. The newly announced G502 and Z780 are also missing, but I’m sure they’ll work with themes created for i.e. the C902 or W760 (A2 phones).

If you’re on Linux, get it here; Mac, get it here; Windows, get it here.

New Sony Ericsson clock patent and 2007 Content Awards winners

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

se_clock_patent.jpgIt looks like Sony Ericsson has filed a patent about some sort of clock display. Here’s how it’s explained:

The invention relates to a clock display and particularly a clock display comprising a combined electronic display unit and mechanical clock hands. The clock hand has a visible state for showing the time and a transparent state used when in it is not desired to obscure the underlying display unit. The clock display may be incorporated in a portable device, such as a mobile telephone or a wrist watch.

se_cleaning_display.jpgIn addition to this patent, Sony Ericsson has also filed another one – this one being about a self cleaning display. The idea behind this patent – as described in one of SE patent applications – is to add a cleaning slider to the display and connect it to the opening/sliding mechanism of the phone itself. This doesn’t sound that nice in my ears and the concept picture does look a bit silly, too. I hope that’s not the best the R&D team can come up with!

Finally, the winners of the Sony Ericsson Content Awards 2007 have been found. In the category “Gaming” the winning game was “Playman Extreme Running”, in category “Imaging” the winning application was “Pull Face Image”, in “Productive Mobility” the winning application was (of course) “Opera Mini 4.0″. The “Music & Audio” award went to TrackID by Gracenote and the “Themes & Graphics” award finally went to “The geeks” themes and graphics. Furthermore Sony Ericsson felt it necessary to give a Special Recognition Award to “Vringo” for best use of the functionalities available in Sony Ericsson phones. Congratulations to all the winners!

Sony Ericsson Content Awards 2007

content_awards.jpg

Sony Ericsson has launched a new and exciting site at their Developer website. It’s actually an awards showcase where some of the best Sony Ericsson content in 2007 will be awarded. There are five content focus areas:

  • Gaming
  • Imaging
  • Productive Mobility
  • Music and Audio
  • Themes and Graphics

Both J2ME and UIQ 3 content is featured and so are themes for both non smartphones and smartphones.

At the Flash website there are also a few videos of Mats Lindoff (Corporate Vice President) and Jens Greve (Senior Manager and Head of Sony Ericsson Developer World) talking about the future of mobile phones and mobile content. Quite interesting, if you ask me.

In my opinion all the nominees have a good chance of winning, but there can only be one in each category – and you can take part of deciding which one!

You’ll find the flash website right here and more information about the Awards here.

Themes Creator now working with Linux

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

The official Sony Ericsson Themes Creator tool for creating your own themes for your Sony Ericsson phone has so far only been released for Mac & Windows, but now people with Linux can also get and use the program if Gstreamer 0.8 is installed. I’m guessing most of you guys know what the software is for, so I’m not going to go into any details (leave a comment, if you don’t know what it’s for, and I’ll get back to you!). You can download it here, available in both English and Chinese. You can also find the Windows & Mac version at the Application-page here at the blog.
