mBrain Software, the company behind the PDF-viewer on M600, P1, P990 and W960, has just released a free ROM update for these phones. I’ve tried it on my W960 and so far it looks good. It installed without any problems and seems to be working just fine.
In order to get this “Christmas present” from mBrain Software, go to this web site and browse to the bottom of the page and download the Pdf+UIQ_3x_ROM_Upgrade_1_75_05_signed.sis file.
I just got my W960 and it’s great! I like just about anything about it except for the irritating protection plastic layer above the screen. It feels cheap and I have doubts about how long it’ll last. Here’s the mandatory unboxing video (and no, I didn’t drop the battery on purpose!) and the pictures are available after the break.
Sony Ericsson has launched a new and exciting site at their Developer website. It’s actually an awards showcase where some of the best Sony Ericsson content in 2007 will be awarded. There are five content focus areas:
Gaming
Imaging
Productive Mobility
Music and Audio
Themes and Graphics
Both J2ME and UIQ 3 content is featured and so are themes for both non smartphones and smartphones.
At the Flash website there are also a few videos of Mats Lindoff (Corporate Vice President) and Jens Greve (Senior Manager and Head of Sony Ericsson Developer World) talking about the future of mobile phones and mobile content. Quite interesting, if you ask me.
In my opinion all the nominees have a good chance of winning, but there can only be one in each category - and you can take part of deciding which one!
You’ll find the flash website right here and more information about the Awards here.
As most of you have probably read here at the blog according to Sony Ericsson themselves there won’t be any announcement on the 15th, where the P5 was supposed to be announced.
And I know why. There’ll be some ‘major hardware changes’ (sorry, I can’t and won’t go into details - yet!) in the P5 causing a delay of both announcement as well as release, which should now be later than earlier expected.
Other than that I’ve received some informations about the design as well, and it sounds very nice (won’t be able to post this either, but the materials can be found in earlier SE phones). The keyboard, however, still remains a mystery - will it be a sliding QWERTY, as some have said or will it be completely different? Well, am not so sure, because both are being used in prototypes, but nevertheless it will be something new (for Sony Ericsson at least).
… a big month for Sony Ericsson of course! November will have two announcements, and the last one will be of great importance. The first announcement will be on Tuesday the 6th, and 3 phones will be announced here; K660 (already shown at SE site), W380 (remember, that clamshell Walkman phone some time back) and W890 (the W880 successor). Some accessories will also be announced.
The really exciting announcement, however, is the one coming up on the 15th. This one will be in the name of UIQ, and Sony Ericsson will be launching their new version of UIQ running on 2 - possibly 3 - smartphones. It’ll be running on P5 (yep, that’s the name of the next generation P series phone) and W980 (codenamed Maria, the iPhone competitor), and it’s possible that it’ll be running on the P600 mid-end smartphone that I posted the very first info about some time ago. So look out, and make sure you mark your calender at these two days!
