Our e-mail inbox has been smoking with e-mails coming from all our readers about the fact that the FCC has approved the C902 and R300. So far, I had decided not to write about it, as I didn’t feel it was that big a deal, but seeing that everybody’s writing about it and that our readers have been wanting us to do the same, I might as well do it.

As said, both the C902 and R300 have been approved by the FCC, which basically means that the hardware is now pretty much ready for the market, and that only the software is yet to be completed. As always, we’ll have to do with the mediocre quality photos available at the FCC website. For those interested, you can find the C902 at the FCC here, and the R300 at the FCC here.

I personally believe that both phones will do very well - especially the R300 (and the R306) in India and other emerging countries.

Digitimes.com reports that Sony Ericsson outsources the production of their newest entry level handsets to Taiwan manufacturers.
Arima Communications will produce T270, T280 & R300, while Chi Mei Communication Systems is going to deliver the R306, their sources state.
Additional info given by digitimes:
Including the T270, 280, R300 and R306, Sony Ericsson is expected to launch a total of 5-6 entry-level handsets targeting emerging markets in 2008 with the company likely to outsource 1-2 more models to Arima and an additional model to CMCS during the year, the sources indicated.
Sony Ericsson purchased about 8.5 million handsets from Taiwan-based OEMs in 2007, according to an estimate of market sources.

Both the phones support Am and FM radio, a first for the Indian market (and probably European and American markets as well). Moreover, both will be priced in the range of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000, which makes them quite desirable.
Without wasting any more words, let’s just get going with the meaty details.

Pictures of a new Sony Ericsson phone - the R306i - were spotted on the official Sony Ericsson website a few hours before its official announcement. The R306i is a clamshell entry-level phone with radio buttons on the face. As we had reported earlier it will be the first cellphone in India to support AM radio! Also spotted were the official pictures of the T280i, which we had revealed a few hours ago. Another phone that is expected to be announced today is the R300i, which might be a candy bar radio phone.
All phones have now been announced - more about them later today!
