Aand here we have another promotional video from the Sony Ericsson marketing labs. This time it’s about SE’s new subscription-based music store, called PlayNow Plus. Media Go™ hands on

title_small

Together with the W995, Sony Ericsson announced that its latest Walkman phone will be accompanied by a new media manager software called “Media Go™”. In cooperation with se-community.com, we have exclusively tested a pre-release version of the software. In order to give you the possibility to get a live impression of the tool, we will provide you with interactive screenshots where you can navigate through the different screens. You will find the link to this unique way of exploring Media Go™ at the end of this article.

The introduction of Media Go™ shows the intention of Sony (Ericsson) to participate in the growing market of online music platforms. Apple’s combination of iTunes and iPhone made a point - if you are familiar with Apple’s solution, Media Go™ will be an easy transition for you. Here is an overview on Sony’s new software functionality:

  • Media Management of Video, Audio, Photo and Podcast media on a Windows PC
  • Hassle-free synchronisation of above media files between PC and several mobile devices
  • Automatic conversion and optimization of media files to the destination device
  • Easy CD ripping
  • Integration of “PlayNow™” online music/game/ringtone store
  • Creation of SensMe™ playlists on the computer

Following formats can be processed by Media Go™:

  • Audio: AAC, FLAC, MP3, Wave, WMA
  • Video: AVI (DivX, XviD, MJPEG with necessary codecs installed), MPEG-4 AAC & AVC, QuickTime Movie, WMV
  • Photo: GIF, JPEG, PNG, Targa, TIFF, Windows Bitmap

All other formats will still be transferred to the mobile device, but without optimization (such as re-sizing, downsampling etc.)

When it comes to podcasts, the new tool offers the possibility to subscribe to a number of pre-defined podcast channels, or you can add your own list of podcasts. The synchronisation of all media files between your PC and your mobile phone(s) works just as in iTunes: for each device you can define which playlists, podcasts, photo albums and videos you want to sync. In addition, Media Go™ offers the possibility to automatically sync all the new files that are added to the PC’s library. Another nice feature: every media file in the library can be transfered from or to a mobile device via a right-click. Last but not least, if you are missing an album cover image, Media Go™ can get it for you from Gracenote.

Media Go entry

By clicking on above picture, you are able to access some interactive screenshots of Sony’s MediaGo™. You can follow the  navigational entries on the left hand side (marked by red arrows in above image) in order to see how the different screens look like. There are also some other links to e.g. preference screens inside of the application’s main window. We hope this will provide you with a better insight to the upcoming Media Go™ software!

Two new additions to Sony Ericsson’s Campaigns site

campaigns-banner

Sony Ericsson have recently added 2 new mini-sites to their ever-growing portfolio of… well, mini-sites, or campaign sites, as they like to call them.

So, the first one is about this app they developed, called ‘Find It’. As the site says, it “can help you locate a whole range of items: your tent at a festival; your car in a crowded car park; your hotel in a busy tourist area; your favourite spot on the beach .” Basically, it’s an app that allows you to tag locations, so that you can find them more easily later on (note, locations, not the TV remote). It requires the HGE-100 GPS enabler accessory in order to work and no, you can’t use your phone’s inbuilt GPS if you have one.

The second campaign site is about some new and hopefully many upcoming motion-controlled… stuff. Wallpapers, games… other things you might want to be motion-controlled, you name it. They’ve even put up a video to hype you up. You know, one of those artistic type of videos that glue your eyes to the screen, despite the fact that they tell you little or nothing about what they’re actually about. After watching the video you are presented with two links. One of them takes you to the main page of PlayNow arena - nothing special. The second brings you to SE’s Fun & Downloads site to browse the (surprisingly many) motion-controlled games. Thankfully, there are a few free wallpapers as well, which are quite nifty.

PlayNow arena open to four more countries

capture

Some of you may have noticed that Sony Ericsson’s PlayNow arena download service is, as of recently, available to 4 more countries. The first ones to be able to use the service were Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark back in September. Now, Sony Ericsson has added the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria to the list.
The owners of Sony Ericsson phones in those countries can now choose to buy and download from a plethora of themes, games, wallpapers, ringtones and tracks on the site, in addition to viewing the most recent and most popular TrackID searches from that region. There’s even some free content up for grabs. :)

Here’s a like to the site: http://www.playnow-arena.com/

PlayNow Arena expands, opening doors for additional five countries

Sony Ericsson today announced plans about expanding PlayNow Arena to open doors for an additional five countries later this year. The five countries are the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland.

Commenting on the expansion were Rob Wells, Senior Vice President, Digital, at Universal Music Group International, and Rikko Sakaguchi, Senior Vice President and Head of Creation & Development at Sony Ericsson.

- The launch of PlayNow arena is a milestone in a la carte music services to mobile phones. The combination of TrackID and the variety of digital products on offer through PlayNow arena is a highly compelling proposition on its own, but when the full track downloads are available DRM-free, the offer is even more compelling for consumers, said Rob Wells in a press release.

- Expanding our PlayNow service portfolio by adding PlayNow plus and by launching PlayNow arena in Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and the UK during the fourth quarter, are key elements of the Sony Ericsson service strategy. These steps and the addition of Universal’s catalogue to the music offering in both services gives us every possibility to provide customers and consumers with what we feel is important and requested - an unparalleled user experience on Sony Ericsson devices, Rikko Sakaguchi added.

So, soon PlayNow Arena will be available in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the UK.
