mBrain Software, the company behind the PDF-viewer on M600, P1, P990 and W960, has just released a free ROM update for these phones. I’ve tried it on my W960 and so far it looks good. It installed without any problems and seems to be working just fine.
In order to get this “Christmas present” from mBrain Software, go to this web site and browse to the bottom of the page and download the Pdf+UIQ_3x_ROM_Upgrade_1_75_05_signed.sis file.

Some days ago a comment was posted here about P1 now being available with a Bluetooth GPS in India. Today I found a picture of an advert in a news paper in India at Esato.com. The pricing is Rs 22.995 (580 USD) with the GPS and 20.995 (510 USD) without the GPS. I can’t seem to find a currency converter, so if someone can, please let me know about this Thanks, Suresh!

According to a member at Esato Russian Eldar Murtazin has posted in the Russian VIP section of their forum, that he’ll be going to an announcement for Sony Ericsson on the 12th of December. If this is true or not, I can’t say, but I remember having talked with Aldo Liguori, who said that Sony Ericsson had no plans of any further announcements this year. But based on the people’s reaction what there was no announcement yesterday (the 15th of November), maybe they’ve decided to announce something in December.
I’ll try to get a comment from Sony Ericsson later on.

Now the information can probably no longer be held back, so here it goes.
The hardware changes, that we talked about yesterday, consist of two hardware components.
- Processor. Instead of a TI OMAP 2420 @ 332 MHz it will be an unknown TI @ 520 MHz processor.
- GPS module
The new UI with all its features will probably also need a stronger processor. This processor will also be compatible with Windows Mobile 6. This is an essential step in regard of the ability to construct new hardware.
Therefore this very late decision means the FP1 again will be discarded, and a new hardware platform created. Maria is said to be running the same platform.
The main reason for the CPU swap is the simultaneous announcement of new ARM-chipsets at the Smartphone Show 2007. The new chipsets are significantly
more efficient in terms of its graphics features than any previous versions.

As most of you have probably read here at the blog according to Sony Ericsson themselves there won’t be any announcement on the 15th, where the P5 was supposed to be announced.
And I know why. There’ll be some ‘major hardware changes’ (sorry, I can’t and won’t go into details – yet!) in the P5 causing a delay of both announcement as well as release, which should now be later than earlier expected.
Other than that I’ve received some informations about the design as well, and it sounds very nice (won’t be able to post this either, but the materials can be found in earlier SE phones). The keyboard, however, still remains a mystery – will it be a sliding QWERTY, as some have said or will it be completely different? Well, am not so sure, because both are being used in prototypes, but nevertheless it will be something new (for Sony Ericsson at least).

… a big month for Sony Ericsson of course! November will have two announcements, and the last one will be of great importance. The first announcement will be on Tuesday the 6th, and 3 phones will be announced here; K660 (already shown at SE site), W380 (remember, that clamshell Walkman phone some time back) and W890 (the W880 successor). Some accessories will also be announced.
The really exciting announcement, however, is the one coming up on the 15th. This one will be in the name of UIQ, and Sony Ericsson will be launching their new version of UIQ running on 2 – possibly 3 – smartphones. It’ll be running on P5 (yep, that’s the name of the next generation P series phone) and W980 (codenamed Maria, the iPhone competitor), and it’s possible that it’ll be running on the P600 mid-end smartphone that I posted the very first info about some time ago. So look out, and make sure you mark your calender at these two days!

Now here’s something very interesting. It seems that Martin Vagner from uiqmania.cz has successfully flashed his P1 to a W960! However at a first look, Memory Stick Micro cards won’t work and the QWERTY won’t function either. Check out the video below, and see the discussion here.

Fed up with buggy firmware, poor customer support and virtually no communication whatsoever from the company who sold them a less than satisfactory flagship product a year ago, UIQ 3 smartphone users have submitted an Open Letter to the new CEO of Sony Ericsson.
If you’ve been a part of the UIQ 3 debacle this past year, please digg this to make Sony Ericsson realize this problem.

There have been a lot of rumors about the Sony Ericsson smartphone by the codename “Lizy”. Now, I can with tell you, that it’s going to be called M610i for sure. It’s a triband GSM phone (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with UMTS (2100 MHz). It’s got WLAN, too, as well as Bluetooth 2.0 and a FM radio with TrackID support.
The phone will come bundled with a charger, stereo headset, battery, USB cable, extra stylus, documentation package and the usual Sony Ericsson software CD. It will support M2 memory cards.
If anybody’s interested in the user manual, then it can be downloaded as an exclusive from The Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog right here. Read on for 8 (high resolution) pictures of the phone.
