MWC: The Bits We Left Out

Monday, February 15th, 2010

As is always the case there are a few things that trickle out after the main event or even during it, but don’t get posted in the excitement over the new handsets. However, our man in Barcelona, MR, when not hobnobbing at the bar or checking out flash cars, picked up a few titbits that you may find interesting:

X10 Update

Lennard Hoornik, SE’s marketing chief, commented on the upgrade path for the X10 and confirmed what we already knew, that there would be one i.e. that it will get an upgrade to the latest version of Android. However, he also said that this would happen sometime before the end of the year! That seems like a very vague, and a very long, time scale. Make of it what you will.

Vivaz Pro

MR had a hands on with the device and confirmed a very odd feature. When you open the handset to reveal the keyboard the UI doesn’t rotate to landscape mode, rather you have to turn the phone to landscape mode first and then open the keyboard. Whether this is final or not we’re not sure, but let’s hope not!

X10 Mini

There is no removable battery! The battery is fixed in place like the iPhone. Presumably this is a result of the handset’s size.

Mediascape

Bad news for the mini versions of the X10, neither has Mediascape. They do both, however, have Timescape.

Hands On: X10 Mini

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

As usual rog, the lucky sod that he is, has posted up a superb hands-on with one of tonight’s newly announced devices: The X10 Mini. Check out the video and photos below and make sure you head on over to SE-First.com for the rest of the pictures.

MWC: X10 Mini Pro

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

The X10 Mini wasn’t the only offshoot of the X10 on show at MWC tonight; the X10 family got a new sibling in the form of the X10 Mini Pro. Similar to the relationship between Vivaz and the Vivaz Pro the X10 Mini Pro is essentially the same handset as the X10 Mini with a slide out QWERTY keyboard. It’s a wee bit chunkier than it’s sister, but not by much; 120g to the X10 Mini’s 88g and the dimensions are 90×52x18 mm. Again availability is being given as Q2.

MWC: X10 Mini Is Go!

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Also announced this evening at MWC was the X10 Mini, or as we’ve known her so far; Robyn. The X10 Mini has the distinction of being the world’s smallest Android handset weighing in at 83×50x17 mm. The handset is essentially a scaled down version of the X10 itself and as its name implies and thus it too features Timescape. Availability is being touted as Q2 with the handset available in a range of colours as you can see in the press shots below.

MWC: Vivaz Pro Debuts

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Sony Ericsson has been taking to the stage at MWC in Barcelona this evening to announce a bevy (yes that is a word) of new products. First up is Kanna or as it will now be known: Vivaz Pro. Essentially it’s the same as Vivaz itself albeit with the addition of a slide out QWERTY keyboard, hence the ‘pro’ part. Release is, tentatively, scheduled for Q2.  Check out the press release photos below.

Live Pictures: Aspen

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

rog from SE=First.com has given us the nod to some rather peachy live shots of Aspen, Sony Ericsson’s latest WinMo handset. The handset was announced yesterday, although previously leaked shots pretty much told the whole story. Head on over to se-first and take a look at the full gallery.

Video: Vivaz Basic Walkthrough

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Daniel Sandblom over at the Sony Ericsson Product Blog has posted up a video demonstrating Vivaz’ basic functionality. It is very basic and I doubt any reader of this blog would seriously need any of the information in the video, however, it does at least show off the handset and its menus a bit more so still worth a watch.
