Sony Ericsson had a small announcement earlier today where they announced the K630 (basically a non-Vodafone-branded V640) and the MBS-100. Not really the announcement we were expecting. They’ve also published the results for Q3, and everything’s looking pretty nice.

GSMArena has posted a very nice review of the upcoming Sony Ericsson W960 - the ultimate Walkman phone right now! They seem to be very excited about the phone, that will be available around December this year. Here’s the conclusion for the lazy ones

Summing it up, the Sony Ericsson W960 easily offers more than any other Sony Ericsson Walkman before. Positive changes compared to the W950 are noticeable both in system performance and in the hardware equipment. In terms of software, the handset is identical to the previous UIQ 3 mobiles and, when compared to Nokia S60 smartphones, loses only on VoIP capabilities, which are much more elaborate in the latest S60 mobiles.

The biggest controversy as we see it, when making the purchase decision for W960, lies in the use of a touchscreen interface for a regular smartphone. Our opinion is that a smartphone interface should be either optimized for finger touching or the screen should not be touch sensitive at all. Pulling the stylus out for anything except handwriting on the screen is not justifiable. So, just to put it shortly, the W960 would have been a great choice if it had some sort of a D-pad to allow easy single-handed navigation through the menu options without the need for stylus all the time.

However, we find the Sony Ericsson W960 a great choice for all you music fans that don’t mind using both hands for operating your handset.

A friend of mine has tried the yet unannounced globe speaker system coming up from Sony Ericsson called MBS-100. According to him it was pretty small, and it had a good sound quality for what it is. It was better than the MPS-70 (the speakers that come with the black W880), so it sounds pretty nice!

I’m counting on these speakers being announced very soon, as they’ve already appeared on the Sony Ericsson site for the MTV Music Awards show. It will be in shops before the end of this year, and it’s not as big as it seems. It’s comparable to a big tennis ball or a small handball ball. And I’m still almost positive that I know the designer of this speaker system

I’m finally back from Prague after 5 lovely days of low prices and bulging meals. But enough about Prague, let’s get back to Sony Ericsson! Here’s a short recap of the week.

Sony Ericsson Z320 and Z750 have both been approved by FCC, and will soon be available. As far as I know Z750 will be available for the American market only, while Z320 will come in both an American version as well as an international version.

Sony Ericsson Developer World has set up a competition to get more tutorials, guides and such in their Wiki. This time you can win a new Sony Ericsson W910 by writing a article about the new JP8 and the JSRs in it. Check the official site for more info.

Pictures of an unknown W880 successor have been on surfacing the web lately. It’s reportedly a 12 mm Walkman phone with a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus and Walkman Player 3.0. Specification wise it looks a lot like the K770, and makes use of the same, new menu interface. You can find pictures of it here!

The Havanna range of phones, which I did a post about earlier on, has now officially been announced. The same has the V640, which is a non-Walkman branded music phone exclusively for Vodafone with HSDPA.

Last but not least it seems that Sony Ericsson could be working on a new concept, which pretty much is a sliding touchscreen, that can work as both navigation keys and a small / large screen depending on what one uses it for.

Wow! Talk about being innovative, will ya! This new Bluetooth accessory from Sony Ericsson is a set of speakers formed in the shape of a ball. It’s called the MBS-100, and I’m guessing the ‘B’ is for Ball. These speakers have not yet been announced officially, and I’m expecting them to be announced at the MTV Europe Music Awards show or a upcoming announcement in October/November.

I’ve got to say that these speakers have a very cool design, and hopefully they’ll come in a large variate of colors. They look pretty big, I think, so I’m curious about the actual size. They seem to be able to play pretty loud Definitely an accessory I’m gonna have a closer look at!

JUSTAMP reports that a new Sony Ericsson Walkman phone clamshell will soon be announced (within 5 days, would be my guess, since there’s an announcement coming at the 14th this month). I have no ideas about where Maximus got the pictures from, however this is what he writes:

Well…it looks like we will be seeing a new clamshell Walkman from Sony Ericsson. It appears to be low end judging from the size, look and 1.3 mega pixel camera. It has touch sensitive keys like in that VAIO media player (kinda…) and a relatively large speaker next to the camera. It also has a similar color scheme to the grey W580.

Looks like we’ll have to wait to find out what it is!
