PlayNow Arena set to launch on Monday!

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

According to Danish and Swedish mobile magazine Mobil, Sony Ericsson’s long awaited PlayNow Arena service will launch in Nordic countries this Monday. The service has been postponed quite some time, but it should be ready on Monday. The prime focus of the PlayNow Arena store will naturally be music, and Sony Ericsson will have one million songs ready for customers in the Nordic countries on Monday, with no less than four million songs in the pipeline. The best part, however, is that all the songs will be free of any DRM protection, so you can copy your songs unrestrictedly, which can be very useful if you get a new phone, computer, etc. (more…)

Put On Your Dancing Shoes And Do The Fanwalk!

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

MTV invites all music lovers to search for their dancing shoes and participate on a trip from London to Liverpool’s European Music Awards — the so-called fanwalk. For nine days (29.10. – 06.11.2008) the 100 winners will blog, do interviews and photo shoots on fanwalk.tv.

To become one of these 100, you have to get a nickpage on the above site — that will launch on August 11th — and get as much votes for you as possible.

We assume it will be available in other languages from 11th.

The latest music accessories

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

As some of you might have noticed, we had some rather annoying server / database problems yesterday on both the blog and forum, which resulted in some missing posts. Sony Ericsson did not only announce phones yesterday, they also announced no less than seven music accessories – three speakers, three headsets, and one music case. Let’s start with the speakers.

MBS-200 is a rather stylish metal Bluetooth (A2DP standard) speaker set to replace Sony Ericsson’s current snowball-like speaker, the MBS-100. As something new, the MBS-200 features an OLED display for displaying the song information. It also comes with a 3.5 mm jack input so it can be used for your computer or alike. (more…)

“The next chapter in mobile music”

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Sony Ericsson today officially confirmed the rumours – July 22 is the date of the next product announcement. According to our information, a total of three handsets will be announced – W302, W585/W595 & W902. Alicia (W707) is a cancelled project.

Once again we’ve got the stuff about the phones, but we’ll keep it to ourselves for now. Sony Ericsson didn’t like our recent leaks, especially not the C905 one, so we’ll play good this time ;-)

You can check out Sony Ericsson’s minisite for the upcoming announcement here.

Say hello to Sony Ericsson W902 (and W595, again)

Friday, July 11th, 2008

The Sony Ericsson W902 has just been leaked at SE4M, as well as a few teasers at Esato. This phone is codenamed Patti, and is basically a Walkman branded C902 with a few changes, such as dedicated music controls on the side.

Also leaked earlier on was the W595. While I was on a short vacation, additional pictures have surfaced the web of this one – some of Esato and some on Myphone.gr. They don’t really show much, and the ones from Myphone.gr are just as blurry as the first leaks, so I didn’t include either. I’m sure you’ll be able to find them, if you’re good with Google. If not, let me know.

I’ve included the many photos of W902 just below. Both this one and W595 will be announced on July 22nd at a Walkman / music gig. I think another phone will be announced here as well – not the T610 remake, though, this is for a later announcement this year.

W350 presents Sound Snacking

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

On the 17th of June Sony Ericsson invited me for their Sound Snack event. Their goal was to tell us about their new study called Sound Snacking. In short, sound snacking means almost the same as the ordinary food snacking, listening to a piece of music to make you feel better. All of this will be explained later on.

The event
All invited press members were divided in groups with a maximum of four people. I was invited for the shift at ten o’clock, but I was late so I had to go with the next one. At the beginning we were taken to this really big room without any lights, the only thing I could see was a SE truck standing in the corner and the stairs between me and the truck. (more…)

Madonna songs to be bundled on Sony Ericsson phones

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Sony Ericsson has announced an agreement with Warner Music International, enabling music and mobile content from Madonna’s new album, HARD CANDY, to be bundled on selected Sony Ericsson phones in no less than 27 countries.

These selected phones will come in two packages; one with 5 songs, and one with the full album pre-loaded. Both will feature extra mobile content, such as wallpapers and ringtones.

- The evolution of mobile handsets along with technological convergence continues to open up new ways for us to distribute and market our artists’ music. This partnership with Sony Ericsson further expands HARD CANDY’s global promotional reach and puts exciting content from the album direct into the hands of Madonna fans all over the world. Not only that, packaging music from a global megastar with new Sony Ericsson phones will help drive sales of music-enabled devices and contribute to the uptake of mobile music, said John Reid, Vice Chairman WMI and President, Warner Music Europe.

As of this month, selected Sony Ericsson phones with HARD CANDY pre-loaded will be sold in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela. Another promotional roll-out started in May, affecting Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.

Usher To Push Sony Ericsson’s Music Marketing

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

It’s no secret that music artist Usher has been lucky enough to get a hold of several hot Sony Ericsson phones to use in his music videos months before they were out.

Now, Sony Ericsson has signed Usher to promote a few of their upcoming Walkman music phones in a major music marketing push. The two Walkman phones in question are the W350 and W980. This marketing push will span over 20 European countries (lots of coverage!), and will also include sponsorship rights for his upcoming full European tour later in the year. This is definitely a clear sign that Sony Ericsson will continue their strong focus on music, and especially the Walkman brand.

- Working with an artist such as Usher is an ideal fit for us.  Here we are at the start of an electrifying launch campaign, poised to deliver a totally 360 degree experience for all consumers and Usher fans alike, it’s truly an exciting prospect, said John Bernard, who’s responsible for marketing at Sony Ericsson to MobileToday.co.uk.

Go Backstage With Leona Lewis & Sony Ericsson

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Sony Ericsson today launched a new music competition, starring the beautiful and highly talented Leona Lewis. You might know Leona from hits as Bleeding Love (I love this one – and nice music video, too!) and Better in Time. You can actually download the latter completely free of charge at the competition website, thanks to Sony Ericsson.

The competition is quite simple. All you have to do is to write down why you’d like to win the competition in less than 25 words, fill out the form and you’re in! All entrants must be over the age of 18 and residents of Australia. Too bad for me.

The prizes are;

  • Double backstage pass (by responding to this YouTube video)
  • Tickets to an exclusive event with the singer
  • A Sony Ericsson W890 pre-loaded with the complete Spirit album

You’ll find the competition website over here.

Good luck!
