Back in Septmember the first Xperia Mini Pro users were facing an electrostatic noise problem on their devices. That means when you recorded a video, an electrostatic crackling could be heard in the background when played back at loud volumes.
Sony Ericsson acknowledged the problem and said that the issue would be solved with the roll out of the 4.0.2.A.X.X firmware in October. But unfortunately that didn’t fix the issue, it just reduced the electrostatic crackling. The problem still exists but not in a way to detract the user experience according to SE
Since end of September the hardware is fixed and the electrostatic crackling is not there anymore.
A while ago we reported that the bootloader of the Xperia X10 got unlocked because of a security hole in the Qualcomm security encryption. Since then it was quite quiet about it and the users were happy to have the bootloader bypassed since April thanks to the dev zdzihu.
But now the real bootloader unlock came true for everyone and you can go ahead and unlock your Xperia X10! It’ll permanently unlock the bootloader, but to do that you need to be running on Android 2.1.
If you want to do it, here is everything you need for it and a tutorial. Thanks to the_laser for his hard work.

The guys from se-first.com got their hands on the new Xperia Arc S and made a hands on video to show how the device works and which new features it will bring. All the new features will come to the other 2011 Xperias later this year, as we mentioned it in earlier blog posts.
Currently Minecraft developers Mojang are auctioning off a limited edition of the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY on eBay. The Xperia PLAY has customary Minecraft blocky graphics with a Minecraft logo on the back on it’s housing. Maybe only hardcore fans will buy this, but all proceeds will be going to charity. The limited edition Plays are international versions of the handset so they will work anywhere.
The devs were annoyed that previous Minecraft gifts appeared on eBay straight after. Here’s what they had to say: “We’ve given away some fantastic Minecraft goodies in the past, only to see it cheekily pop up on eBay auctions. This time, we thought we’d beat you guys to it, and put our listing up before the Minecraft Xperia PLAY becomes available to win at Gamescom!”
The bidding currently stands at $1,075.00, but you’ve got plenty of time left to put your offer in as the auction ends on 21th August.
We all thought it would never happen, but the fully locked down X10 got cracked!Once again thanks to the great devs.
The_laser posted at xda that “maxrfon” found a bug in Qualcomm’s mcu bootrom RSA signature verification. That means the devs have the full control over semcboot which allows them to hack the bootloader instead of bypassing it.zdzihu and other devs are currently working on a save method to flash the modified bootloader, let’s hope they find a save way soon.
If you want to follow the work of the devs you can watch the thread over here
This will allow the devs to make fully working custom ROMs and simlock can be removed for free, no need for buying unlock codes anymore.
zdzihu posted a comment from Sony Ericsson that says they won’t update the bootloaders of the X10 with the 2.3.3 update – which is good for the X10 users. The reason is that by updating the bootloader the X10 can be bricked.
What will Sony Ericsson say about it? They should be very suprised when they read the news.
About a week ago, I decided to have a look around, and see what the XDA devs are doing (or done) for the Xperia Arc and Play. After something grabbing my attention again, I decided to take another look around, and pleased to report there is a bit more of better news for the Xperia Play.
Xperia Play:
We have someone taking donations, for which appears to be for getting a phone to a dev. Afterwards, some development will take place from that dev.
slade87 and doixanh from XDA managed to get Dualtouch working on X10 Mini Pro devices! The module they created unloads the kernel driver and loads a new modified Dualtouch driver. After that you can use two fingers!
You only need a X10 Mini Pro which is:
rooted
and has
latest Kernel and Baseband M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015
Since then Arc rooting has caught the attentions of the developers that rooted the X10. Their initial attempts also saw failure, but then reverted back to the idea that LollyLost100 had, and have reported success.
It is not clear at the moment whether this requires an unlocked bootloader or not at this stage (but I imagine it would!), it could also be that the same method will work on the Xperia Play based on this post.
Anyone wanting to try to root their device should read this guide.
Update: after reading the guide (post link changed on first post) yes you do need the bootloader to be unlocked!
Sony Ericsson made the promise to unlock the bootloader of SIM free and generic versions of the new Xperia range. Currently for the UK, this is limited to the Arc and Play.
Today, they have at last made a website with details on how to unlock the bootloader. We assume that the Neo and Pro will be able to unlock in the same manner when they get launched.
Sadly, at time of writing, it is rather pointless as there are no custom ROMs for the Play or Arc. However, as soon as we get details of custom ROMs being made, we will be sure to let you know, and hope that the XDA devs will start work on this soon.
Just as a reminder: unlocking the bootloader on your Xperia device will void the warranty. Also, many people that have already done it have reported that the process seems to wipe the data from your phone, and may not work properly on the Android Market (as reported by one of our forum users)
It seems that the XDA devs are still fighting Sony Ericsson for customization. Already they can flash the Xperia Arc with the decrypted firmware for the Arc, so if theres something you dont like about the new Arc firmware, then it seems you have a possibility to reflash the old one.
As for whether the Xperia Play can be flashed with this method, we have no news on it.
