K660 & Z770 Coming Soon

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Just wanted to pop a note that our review of the HSDPA-enabled Sony Ericsson K660 will soon be published (apologize that it’s taken quite some time, but my schedule is quite booked these days). It’ll probably end up around 2,500 words or so, meaning that it won’t be as in-depth going as the W890 review, but hopefully you’ll enjoy it and put it at good use anyway :-)

Also, I should be getting a Z770 from Sony Ericsson any day now (update: Monday or Tuesday). Or at least, I think so :-) While this is basically a clamshell version of the K660, I am still in doubt what to do with it. If I should simply do a long comparison of the two, or whether I should go for a full fledged review of it. Any ideas?

Have fun in the meantime :-)

PS. Thought I might want to shortly mention what’s happening on the rumours’ front of things. Well, Sony Ericsson is currently working up a Walkman version of the C902 with some extra tasty features. We might get to see this a lot earlier than expected… Wow, what a cliff-hanger! ;)

New K660 & W580 Colour Variants

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Sony Ericsson today launched a few extra colour variants of the K660, and a new smashing red colour variant for the W580. The new K660 colours are called Cyan on Black & Silver on Black, while the red W580 colour variant will be called Velvet Red. In my opinion the red colour on the W580 makes it look extremely hot!

Camera Shoot-out: Nikon D40 Vs Sony Ericsson K850

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Ever wondered how a mobile phone camera performs compared to a d-SLR camera? Well, I have, and today I decided to put it to the test.

I found a Sony Ericsson K850 Cyber-shot branded camera phone and have compared it to my entry-level d-SLR camera, Nikon D40. It turned out to be an extensive comparison with a total of 12 pictures from each camera. Apart from that, this shoot-out will also teach you a bit about the camera and sensors in detail and why you should go for a d-SLR camera rather than a mobile phone camera (well, it should be obvious!).

Ready? Set. Shoot-out!

USEB Exclusive: Another ‘Emelie’ teaser

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Here is another teaser of the upcoming low-mid-end K-series phone.

The official name could be K111, but is not for sure at the moment.

Just wait for some more pics and infos ;)

Gallery: Sony Ericsson K660

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Along with the W380, I also received a K660 HSDPA-enabled phone targeted at the youth. Here goes a gallery of this phone as well. I am not yet sure when you’ll see a review of it, but I’ll try to do it within a reasonable time frame! So far I’m not really that impressed… :(

K660 & W890 Soon Out In Shops

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

The K660 and W890 models are soon going to be hitting the shops around the world. They’ll be priced somewhere between £200 – £250, which isn’t bad at all.

You can check out the K660 at Sony Ericsson’s 3D demo website, and spin it around to look at whatever detail you might want to look at.

The W890 websites have also been created now, which means you can check out a 3D demo of the phone, try it out for yourself or even go to the WAP portal and download W890 related stuff. What’s interesting is that the Espresso Black version seems to be missing from every single piece of media on the W890. I’m guessing it’s been cancelled.

I’ve already signed up for a W890 review model, and am expecting one to come along this week or early next week :-)

New Firmwares Out For K850, W910 & W960

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Sony Ericsson’s three top models have just received an update to fix some of the problems and bugs in the firmwares. While I have not noticed many bugs in W960, the K850 and W910 does indeed pack quite a few, especially because they were among the first A200 offerings. I have just updated my K850, and Sony Ericsson has definitely been working on this firmware release, that’s for sure! It’s much faster in general, no more lagging in Media, new effects and much faster working in Media, 3D games in particular run much more smoothly now. The camera has been much improved as well, and same goes for video recordings. Another fine new feature is that you can set the phone to vibrate when using the touch sensitive buttons – this works quite well.

Now for some technical stuff. The K850 firmware is called R1EA031, and is not a major release. The W910 firmware is called R1EA030, and has pretty much the same improvements as with the K850. The W960 firmware CDA is called R6G02, and I have yet to decide whether I’ll update my W960 or not. I am liking it as it is now, so there’ll have to be either new features or improvements for me to update :-)

This is the Sony Ericsson K820. 5 mega pixels, auto focus, flash, A200 software platform, several camera short cuts. Very thin!

Update! This is the C902!

K850 QuickSilver Black Now Official

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

We’ve brought you tons of pictures of the QuickSilver Black K850 variant, and just recently, Sony Ericsson finally made it official. Nothing has changed specification wise – just a new colour.

You can see the new colour variant at the K850 web page. By the way, did anybody notice that the displayed picture is slightly larger than the other ones? :-)

My K850 is back on track!

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Some might remember that my precious K850 baby boy was by accident completely locked a few weeks ago. Well, now I can proudly say that it is no longer locked! :-)

The guys at totalgsm.org has done a terrific job on it and it is now fully working again. So, if you’re in my situation – these guys are highly recommended. Same goes for flashing / debranding and such :-)

Thanks a lot guys!
