Video hands-on of the Aino, the Satio and the Yari
Friday, May 29th, 2009Media Go™ hands on
Saturday, February 28th, 2009
Together with the W995, Sony Ericsson announced that its latest Walkman phone will be accompanied by a new media manager software called “Media Go™”. In cooperation with se-community.com, we have exclusively tested a pre-release version of the software. In order to give you the possibility to get a live impression of the tool, we will provide you with interactive screenshots where you can navigate through the different screens. You will find the link to this unique way of exploring Media Go™ at the end of this article.
The introduction of Media Go™ shows the intention of Sony (Ericsson) to participate in the growing market of online music platforms. Apple’s combination of iTunes and iPhone made a point – if you are familiar with Apple’s solution, Media Go™ will be an easy transition for you. Here is an overview on Sony’s new software functionality:
- Media Management of Video, Audio, Photo and Podcast media on a Windows PC
- Hassle-free synchronisation of above media files between PC and several mobile devices
- Automatic conversion and optimization of media files to the destination device
- Easy CD ripping
- Integration of “PlayNow™” online music/game/ringtone store
- Creation of SensMe™ playlists on the computer
Following formats can be processed by Media Go™:
- Audio: AAC, FLAC, MP3, Wave, WMA
- Video: AVI (DivX, XviD, MJPEG with necessary codecs installed), MPEG-4 AAC & AVC, QuickTime Movie, WMV
- Photo: GIF, JPEG, PNG, Targa, TIFF, Windows Bitmap
All other formats will still be transferred to the mobile device, but without optimization (such as re-sizing, downsampling etc.)
When it comes to podcasts, the new tool offers the possibility to subscribe to a number of pre-defined podcast channels, or you can add your own list of podcasts. The synchronisation of all media files between your PC and your mobile phone(s) works just as in iTunes: for each device you can define which playlists, podcasts, photo albums and videos you want to sync. In addition, Media Go™ offers the possibility to automatically sync all the new files that are added to the PC’s library. Another nice feature: every media file in the library can be transfered from or to a mobile device via a right-click. Last but not least, if you are missing an album cover image, Media Go™ can get it for you from Gracenote.
By clicking on above picture, you are able to access some interactive screenshots of Sony’s MediaGo™. You can follow the navigational entries on the left hand side (marked by red arrows in above image) in order to see how the different screens look like. There are also some other links to e.g. preference screens inside of the application’s main window. We hope this will provide you with a better insight to the upcoming Media Go™ software!
Short Hands-On With Idou
Sunday, February 15th, 2009Video: Sony Ericsson phones durability test
Tuesday, January 27th, 2009Having read some of the comments about my rather cool (and totally copyrighted!) way of handling the F305, T700 and W302 in the unboxing videos (read: tossing them around a bit), I’ve decided to go all in with a large durability test, and – naturally – caught it all on tape, err, memory card! The durability test included no less than thirty Sony Ericsson phones that all received some TLC before being airborne. To my great surprise, none of the phones received any scratches from this test – great job, Sony Ericsson!
All right… My time is up, and I’ll leave you with the video and a question just below it…
So, have I got too much time on my hands or too many phones to be in my hands? That’s the question!
The phones in the video are:
C902, C905, G900, K530, K660, K700, K750, 2x K770, K800, K850, M600, P990, S500, T68i, T230, T610, W550, 2x W595, 2x W760, W800, 2x W890, W900, W950, W960, X1, and Z320.
New X1 Hands-On Video
Tuesday, October 7th, 2008Sam over at Xperiancers has posted a new video of the X1 in action after receiving a C&J model. Until the retail model hits the shops next week this is the closest version of the handset to the end customer model that we can see.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 hands on
Tuesday, June 17th, 2008
The folks at Boy Genius Report have managed to get their hands on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. So what’s their verdict? Right from the 800×480 VGA screen, optical joystick, speedy HSDPA , the device impresses, and you really can’t throw any more specs in! With looks to die for, its not surprising that the X1 is the #1 Windows Mobile device people are waiting for. Their Sony Ericsson X1 gallery doesn’t have any shots of the Panel interface, so for now you’ll have to make do with some shots of the nice looking exteriors of the device.
Comparing the G’s
Sunday, June 8th, 2008Thought I’d just post a few photos of the G700 and G900 compared to each other, and just for the fun of it, add a W960 in on one of the photos, to show you how small these really are. Keep in mind that W960 was actually quite an improvement over other UIQ phones. As you can see, the G’s are quite alike, with only minor hardware differences.

Another USEB W890 Preview
Monday, March 17th, 2008
I received the W890 only a few days ago and it was love at first sight. I love the materials used and the colour variants look absolutely smashing. Build quality feels very good and phone is extremely sturdy. About 30 people have had a look at my W890 so far and all were impressed by the quality of it.
W890 is really thin and has a nice format and weight. It’s less than 80 grams and fits perfectly into any pocket. It feels nice to hold in your palm due to the rounded edges and the nice choice of materials (it’s metal!). Its “wow”-factor beats just about everything else on the market and – in my opinion – it looks so much better than the W880.

This is a Walkman phone so it is of course marketed at music lovers. It comes with a 2 GB memory card which can hold about 500 songs in MP3 format or up to 1,000 – 2,000 songs in advanced AAC codec formats. The speaker isn’t bad but it’s not perfect. It lacks bass and depth. However, if you decide to listen to the music with the bundled earphones everything sounds excellent and the volume level is decent.
The camera is a fixed focus camera with a resolution of 3.15 mega pixels. I’m finding it hard to see why Sony Ericsson had to up the ante on the amount of pixels. In my opinion they should have stuck with 2 mega pixels like on the W880, but again – it is a major selling point for unknowing consumers. The camera performs OK without being superb in any way whatsoever.
Call quality seems pretty good. Volume might be a little low (I’m in doubt whether it’s the phone or me) and the display seems a bit low on brightness (again, this might just be me). Speaking of the display, everything else about it is excellent! The colour saturation is very nice and it is unbelievably crisp. With regards to colour saturation I’d say that it’s on par with the excellent display on the K850. However the K850’s display has its pros and goes out as the winner in this small comparison.

Overall, W890 feels like a really neat phone. Personally, I feel like this is a must-have in my collection and I will now have to do a dig in my wallet to find some money to pay for one of these babies. Price is about £200 – £250, which isn’t too bad.
Expect an in-depth going review of W890 with lots of photos late this week. A gallery of the phone will come later today.
Gallery: The Unannounced M610
Sunday, March 9th, 2008Here are a few exclusives shots of the unannounced / cancelled M610 smart phone by Sony Ericsson. It is still unknown why Sony Ericsson cancelled this model, but probably because it was too close to M600 and P1.
Gallery: USEB & SE At CeBIT 2008
Sunday, March 9th, 2008This year’s CeBIT trade fair has just closed down after a week of visitors and interesting products. Sony Ericsson was of course present and a couple of the German blog writers had a look at Sony Ericsson’s booth and new products. We’ve collected a large gallery for you, hope you enjoy
