Sony Ericsson today announced the G705 - as expected - and also a special Orange-branded variant of it, called G705u, which is Sony Ericsson’s first phone to support UMA, which gives you the ability to make calls via the regular cellular networks as well as LAN networks. Pretty neat.
I believe we’ve already mentioned the spefications of G705 quite a few times, so I’ll just mention the most important ones again. 2.4 inch display (QVGA resolution), HSDPA/HSUPA (HSUPA for the American model), WLAN with support for DLNA, GPS with support for aGPS, FM radio with RDS, NetFront browser, A2 platform, 3.2 mega pixel fixed focus camera. A 1 GB memory card comes bundled. It is essentially a C905 with added HSUPA, but without the excellent camera. Sony Ericsson didn’t fail to add a few extra goodies, though. Sony Ericsson also today announced a new partnership with Google, meaning that you’ll be able to download and upload videos from and to YouTube directly from the G705. This feature will not be exclusive to the G705, and it’ll also be added in future models, and hopefully also current models.
The G705 will be available in Silky Gold and Majestic Black variants in early Q4 - that’s soon! The American model supporting the faster HSUPA networks will be available in Q1. The G705u will be available in early Q4 as well in Luminous Black.
Now… where can you find more on this phone? Well, SE-community posted a rather large gallery of this baby, and I can assure you it looks good. Find it over here. Not only did they settle with posting a gallery, though, so you can also find two videos on YouTube showing the phone and its user interface. I’ll probably post some of the official press pictures later on, but I’ll leave you with this for now as I’m loaded with school assignments at the moment.
This was posted by Cell Phone Sail at cellphonesail.wordpress.com. I think it looks rather nice, although I would have preferred another colour variant.
While we’re at it with the leaks, Maximys posted some information about three codenames of upcoming phones - Athena, Miranda and Yue.
We’ve got some juicy stuff on a new Walkman phone as well for next year, but you’ll have to wait a bit for that
According to this article on the Dutch JouwMobiel, the Sony Ericsson G705 - codenamed Kumiko - will be announced this Monday. In addition to that, it also states an accessory will be announced on Monday. This will be the IDP-100, a digital photo frame with Bluetooth functionality.
It seems like Sony Ericsson would rather announce new colour variants of already announced phone models than announce completely new phones. Within a short period of time, Sony Ericsson’s presented no less than twelve new phone colour variants for a total of six phones, and with more to come.
The C902 was presented in a Cinnamon Bronze variant. Other than that, the C902 was also recently announced to make its appearance in a James Bond variant, dubbed Titanium Silver.
The arabic community se4m.com is well known for providing pics and information on upcoming Sony Ericsson phones. Today they strike again as they present us the first pictures of what is supposed to be a new G-Series slider.
The device sports a 3.2 megapixels fixed focus camera with an LED. Other features include a built-in GPS, 2.4 inch display, and it runs the A2 software platform. It will also have built-in WLAN!
We expect this phone to be announced together with Remi in about a fortnight.
