Linda has been a known codename for quite some time now, but until now we really haven’t had any phones to match with the codename. Now, a bunch of photos of the upcoming W595 - W580 successor - leaked on Journaldugeek.
The Sony Ericsson G700 is Sony Ericsson’s cheapest smart phone to date, and probably also the last Sony Ericsson phone to be making use of the UIQ user interface. It’s not necessarily marketed as being a smart phone, but rather being a smart feature phone.
Sony Ericsson recently selected Swedish mobile games developer and publisher GlobalFun as one of its two official content acquisition partner for the upcoming PlayNow Arena and Fun & Downloads services.
The T610 was one of Sony Ericsson’s first smash hits, and many will argue that this single phone model marked a turning point for the company. Five years after its release, it looks like Sony Ericsson is about ready with a remake of this ever-popular handset.
The G900 and its sibling, G700, represent a new kind of Sony Ericsson smart phone products, that don’t look or feel like a smart phone, yet perform and deliver as one would expect a smart phone to do. These G’s are targeted at the normal everyday consumer, who wants a little extra something from his phone, while still keeping the price low.
Sony Ericsson just recently launched a new firmware for the K660, W890, W910, Z750 and Z770. This one is called R1FA030, and is available on Sony Ericsson Update Service.
As of this moment, I’ve only heard feedback from W910 users, but the user feedback so far is quite good, and reports say that the device generally feels faster after the update, especially in the Media menu even with great amounts of files. I’d be surprised if this doesn’t go for the rest of the phones as well. Other than, Sony Ericsson apparently did some fixing on the rather buggy video playing, and the phones should now be a lot better at playing videos. An option to update the media library has also been added to the Media menu.
Let’s hope the rest of the A2 phones will get their firmwares updated soon as well!
The new W960 firmware includes a new 3D game called SSX3 by EA Games. It’s the largest and prettiest game I’ve ever seen on a mobile phone, and the best way to describe it would be “impressive”. I’d recommend all W960 users to update the firmware on their phones for the simple fact that this game is now included. I’ve recorded a short video of it, and posted some screenshots after the jump.
Sony Ericsson’s three top models have just received an update to fix some of the problems and bugs in the firmwares. While I have not noticed many bugs in W960, the K850 and W910 does indeed pack quite a few, especially because they were among the first A200 offerings. I have just updated my K850, and Sony Ericsson has definitely been working on this firmware release, that’s for sure! It’s much faster in general, no more lagging in Media, new effects and much faster working in Media, 3D games in particular run much more smoothly now. The camera has been much improved as well, and same goes for video recordings. Another fine new feature is that you can set the phone to vibrate when using the touch sensitive buttons - this works quite well.
Now for some technical stuff. The K850 firmware is called R1EA031, and is not a major release. The W910 firmware is called R1EA030, and has pretty much the same improvements as with the K850. The W960 firmware CDA is called R6G02, and I have yet to decide whether I’ll update my W960 or not. I am liking it as it is now, so there’ll have to be either new features or improvements for me to update
This just got in. Sony Ericsson is to release a ‘Quicksilver Black’ colour variant K850 camera phone. Nothing else than the colouring should be changed. So far, I haven’t been able to fetch any pictures of this variant, but it could be the one, we’ve seen earlier on. I haven’t got any word on availability yet.
Furthermore, I can tell you, that Sony Ericsson’s upcoming firmware for the K850, will not be the R1DA038 revision, but instead a completely new and better one Let’s hope I have fixed my K850 by then, as it should not take more than a week’s time!
Update! The first press picture of this colour variant has now hit the forums - count on more live pictures coming from us tomorrow
mBrain Software, the company behind the PDF-viewer on M600, P1, P990 and W960, has just released a free ROM update for these phones. I’ve tried it on my W960 and so far it looks good. It installed without any problems and seems to be working just fine.
In order to get this “Christmas present” from mBrain Software, go to this web site and browse to the bottom of the page and download the Pdf+UIQ_3x_ROM_Upgrade_1_75_05_signed.sis file.
A commenter here at the blog, has just posted about an upcoming firmware release for the K850. This one will be called R1DA038 and it looks like there will be some major improvements on the camera side. The current camera version is 2.9, while the new firmware’s camera version will be v. 3.4. Video call camera is the same.
I am currently downloading the new firmware version for the K850. This has been said to be released in a couple of areas and now the Nordic version has been released as well. More updates once the update has completed. Maybe this means there’s a new one out for W910 as well - I’ll have to check!
Update! There’s a new firmware out for W910, too! Am currently downloading this now. Nothing seems to have changed in the K850 firmware, though The K850 firmware version is R1CA037, and the W910 is R1CA039.
