Let’s Go Behind The Scenes Of ‘Emelie’

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

‘Emelie’ is the codename of an upcoming low/mid-end feature phone by Sony Ericsson. It is based on the A200 operating system and is one of the first phones in this price range to be based on this system (more will come, though!). The display is of QVGA resolution (240 x 320 pixels) and is capable of displaying up to 262.144 colours.

Its metal body looks stylish and inside the casing there are 18 silver keys with a curvy sparkling design. The call and end call keys are black and separate the silver trimming. The D-pad looks quite funny and I don’t think Sony Ericsson has used a design like this before. The navigation keys (up, down, left & right) are separated into four different keys and the action key in the middle has a joystick look to it with orange lights around it. There is an activity menu key on the front, but no other short cut keys here.

We can’t reveal many of the specifications yet, but we can tell you that this will feature a 2 mega pixel camera without auto focus. Its weight seems to be ~100 grams, and we expect the price to end up around 150 – 200 euro.

More on this baby later :-) If you haven’t seen one of our teaser pictures of Emelie yet, you can check them out here.

Here are a few exclusives shots of the unannounced / cancelled M610 smart phone by Sony Ericsson. It is still unknown why Sony Ericsson cancelled this model, but probably because it was too close to M600 and P1.

X1 IS An H2 Product – We’ve Got The Official Statement!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Lately there have been some rumours about the release date of X1. It was said that it supposedly won’t see the light of the day till some time in February 2009. I’ve told many people otherwise and I have now fetched an official statement regarding the X1 and its release.

- I can confirm that we will be launching the X1 product in 2nd Half of 2008, as per our announcement of 10th February that we made in Barcelona, said Aldo Liguori, who is the Corporate Vice President of the Global Communications and PR department at Sony Ericsson.

So, there you have it. The only reason for the mysterious “10th of February release” is the fact that Sony Ericsson (or should I say Microsoft) has yet to decide on when to publicly announce the operating system and technical specifications of the X1, and thereby also a precise release date.

Answers From Mr Komiyama – CEO At SE

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Back in the end of 2007, I asked our readers what their question would be if they had the chance to ask Sony Ericsson’s new CEO, Hideki Komiyama, a question. I then picked out a set of 10 questions, and passed it on to the new and busy CEO. Today I’ve received answers on six of the questions, while the others have been passed on to the corresponding sections at Sony Ericsson for a later reply. You’ll find the answered questions after the break. (more…)

New Nomenclature Of Upcoming SE Phones

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Sony Ericsson is going to change its old nomenclature of their entire product range. Some among you were surprised of the funky and weird namings of the latest Sony Ericsson products. This scheme will answer almost all of your questions regarding the new namings.

The future names won’t carry the typical “i” in the end of the product name. So the R300 and the R306 are the first phones that follow this new nomenclature. It isn’t really new, since we know the same nomenclature from the Japanese phones already. And here we go:

To get the whole story completed – a brief explanation of the upcoming series and their lower end parts:

• XPERIA vs. G-Series (G stands for: Generation Web)

The G-series is the lower end series compared to the XPERIA series. Both are determined as dedicated smart phone series.

• Cyber-shot – Series vs. Snapshot – Series (new S-series phones)

Cyber-shot has become a well known and well beloved series within the Sony Ericsson portfolio. It will get a new “sub-brand” called Snapshot containing new stylish phones in different form factors poorer equipped than the Cyber-shot models.

• Walkman – Series vs. Radio – Series (new R-series phones)

The smaller brother of the Walkman line will be the poorer equipped Radio line. It will be a nice extension regarding the music department of Sony Ericsson.

Some examples on existing phones:

• C902 – High-End Candybar (Cyber-shot)
• C702 – Mid-Range Candybar (Cyber-shot)
• R306 – Low-End Clamshell (Radio-Series)

Successors will be indexed for example C912… C922… C932, and so on :)
As you can see, there are a lot of varieties and combinations… so SE won’t run out of new names that soon :D

P1i will stop shipping from September. You can imagine what its replacement will be

A Look At XPERIA

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Here are screenshots of some of the different home screens available in XPERIA. The XPERIA panels are fully customizable, and will all change accordingly to what happens.
The first picture displays the business home screen with a large clock, links to messages, calls and live calender posts.
The second one is the calendar overview, which pretty much does the same as the first one, but with a better overview of the camera and upcoming schedules.
The third one is the media one with links to music, videos, photos, games and alike. This is somewhat reminding of the current Media menu in A200 phones, and the W960 as well as the newly announced G700 & G900 offerings. Videos can be watched in a simple way with large controls.
Fourth screen shot is the photo album. Here you can very easily navigate using your finger on the touch screen, the 4-way key or the optical navigation by wiping your finger across the edge of the display.
Fifth and final screen shot is the upcoming PlayNow look. Easy navigation with your finger, and also finger scrolling.
