F305 gets loaded with 61 games – bundled!

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

When F305 was announced, Sony Ericsson said it’d launch with eleven games pre-installed (Bowling, Bass fishing, Jockey, Johnny Crash Stuntman Does Texas, Tropical Madness, Racing Fever GT, The Sims 2, Jewel Quest 2, Lumines, Asteroids and Quadrapop Robotics). What they didn’t mention is that the very same phone will come with non less than 50 – that’s FIFTY – games on its 512 MB Memory Stick Micro. Just have a look at the image in this post, or check out the F305’s website yourself.

A look at PlayNow Arena

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Maximys over at SEMC Blog has just reported that the upcoming PlayNow Arena services will be launched in two versions; one for your computer and one for your phone. I like the look of both versions, and I sincerely hope this will be used by consumers. This should also make it easier for new musicians to make a name for themselves.

Maximys also added that the services will soon be launched in Sweden and the United Kingdom, while the rest of us will have to wait a bit longer. I’m sure I’ll get round to do a review of the service once it launches, though.

Here’s an internal test view at the PlayNow Arena service for computers, also dubbed the Web service.

And here are a few screenshots of the handheld services for mobile phones, dubbed the WAP service.

W350 presents Sound Snacking

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

On the 17th of June Sony Ericsson invited me for their Sound Snack event. Their goal was to tell us about their new study called Sound Snacking. In short, sound snacking means almost the same as the ordinary food snacking, listening to a piece of music to make you feel better. All of this will be explained later on.

The event
All invited press members were divided in groups with a maximum of four people. I was invited for the shift at ten o’clock, but I was late so I had to go with the next one. At the beginning we were taken to this really big room without any lights, the only thing I could see was a SE truck standing in the corner and the stairs between me and the truck. (more…)

Game, Set & Splash! Williams & Nadal Treads The Waters

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

se_tennis_water.jpg

As a world’s first, Sony Ericsson celebrated the opening of the tennis tournament Sony Ericsson Open (starting today!) by hosting a tennis match on water!

Two of the best tennis players in the world, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal, tried their luck on this challenging court yesterday. The game took place at the top of the Gansevoort South Hotel in the 110 feet swimming pool near Miami’s South Beach.

This special and cool looking court took 7 days to build and consists of two invisible platforms. This is not really a Sony Ericsson related news (well it is, but not that much), but I simply had to post it because of the cool court!

SSX3 – New Game On W960

Monday, February 25th, 2008

The new W960 firmware includes a new 3D game called SSX3 by EA Games. It’s the largest and prettiest game I’ve ever seen on a mobile phone, and the best way to describe it would be “impressive”. I’d recommend all W960 users to update the firmware on their phones for the simple fact that this game is now included. I’ve recorded a short video of it, and posted some screenshots after the jump.

It Has Begun – Fight With Your Phone

I usually don’t rant much about Nokia phones here at USEB, but for long there has been a rather interesting application for these called LightSabre, which turned phones with a built-in accelerometer into a deadly light saber with both sound and visual effects.

Now, the fantastic Steve Oldmeadow has created an application for Sony Ericsson phones with a built-in accelerometer running the A200 platform – it’s called Saber ME, and works brilliantly! Check his video demo of the application below.

The application will run on C902, K850, W760, W910 & W980 (and any future SE phone with an accelerometer and running A200 software platform). And best of all – it’s freeware! I am VERY interested in seeing what applications will come from Steve in the future :-)

Galleries – New Feature at USEB

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

From this day forward, you will be able to check out cool high quality photo galleries of new and older Sony Ericsson phones right here at USEB. We’ve just finished setting up a gallery page, and are slowly starting to upload photos. At the moment you can find photo galleries of the K850, P1, P990, W910 & W960. Furthermore, we’ve added a sidebar widget to display four random gallery photos.

What’s more is that galleries can now be added directly into posts! This can come in handy in the future – and it looks something like this

We hope you will like this new feature as much as we do! :-)

Sony Ericsson’s New PlayNow Commercial Hits The Top

Monday, January 28th, 2008

We have already told you about Sony Ericsson’s newly announced PlayNow offerings and additions, and now we bring you a very cool video showing how the new features work. It’s definitely one of the coolest commercials from Sony Ericsson – at least that’s what I think :-)

Sony Ericsson Announces Music Deal & Launches PlayNow Uncut

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

The glamorous South of France was the setting of Sony Ericsson’s unveiling of a deal with ten major record labels, which will add more than 5 million tracks to its catalog. The announcement was made at the MIDEM conference and it also saw Sony Ericsson launch PlayNow Uncut (formerly M-Buzz), which is a place for unsigned up and coming artists to be promoted.

The partnership with the record labels takes in major global players as well as regional labels: Sony BMG, Warner, EMI, The Orchard, IODA, The PocketGroup, Hungama, X5 Music, Bonnier Amigo and VidZone. The deal adds over 5 million tracks to Sony Ericsson’s PlayNow Arena. More deals with other regional labels are expected, which will further expand the range of music available from PlayNow Arena as well as allowing Sony Ericsson to better reflect local tastes.

Commenting on the PlayNow Arena service Sony Ericsson Executive Vice President Anders Runevad:

- We are delighted to announce deals with such high calibre record labels. This will help realise our vision for PlayNow™ arena as a service that will be developed in collaboration with our partners. Our commitment is to work with the industry to ensure we are building an experience-based and intuitive content delivery platform, enabling the development of an ecosystem that provides a unique experience for the consumer and a business model where everybody prospers.

The Play Now service also saw the addition of 250 new games and Sony Ericsson claim that their customers download more games to their handsets than users of other devices.

Initially PlayNow Arena will be available in Scandinavia and Finland in May this year whilst further European markets being added at the end of Q2. There will be further markets added throughout the Americas, Asia and Europe going into Q3 and Q4 with SOny Ericsson predicting that the service will be active in around thirty markets by the end of the year.

You can see the service at www.playnow-arena.com.

I’ve won Sony Ericsson fan stuff

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

Esato has a cool game called Playtime!, where the target of the game is to be the one to post a certain reply number (i.e. reply number 35). Then you’ll get a prize! I’ve won 6 of these rounds and have scored some Sony Ericsson stuff – a wrist strap, a SE fan and a black SE drawstring bag. Furthermore I’ve won some Motorola and Nokia stuff.

I would like to say thanks to Esato moderator masseur, who has made this possible, and also to PeterKay for donating some stuff!

Be sure to check it out at http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=161127&start=0
