X10 Mini Pro gets Dualtouch from XDA devs!

Friday, May 6th, 2011
slade87 and doixanh from XDA managed to get Dualtouch working on X10 Mini Pro devices! The module they created unloads the kernel driver and loads a new modified Dualtouch driver. After that you can use two fingers!

You only need a X10 Mini Pro which is:

  • rooted

and has

  • latest Kernel and Baseband M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015

If you want to get it visit X10 Mini Pro Dualtouch

Xperia Play and Neo rooted!

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011
Earlier on today I brought you news of the Arc getting rooted. Just as I thought, the Play has also been rooted, along with the Neo!

Granted, root is currently available for certain firmware, and I would advise you to keep an eye on our Android Tuts and Guides section for exact details for the rooting process.

If your generic firmware isnt yet rooted, it seems that all that is required is your system.img, which you will get as part of the firmware from SEUS. Im certain that if you ask Bin4ry rather nicely, he will also root your generic firmware (sorry, he wont root branded firmware. I have just asked him)

Xperia Arc and Play: The XDA devs

Friday, April 15th, 2011
Two days ago, I posted that Sony Ericcson had unlocked the booterloader on the Xperia Play and Xperia Arc. So, what development has been going on then over at XDA?

Well, in a nut shell, nothing major. It seems our very own Lollylost100 is looking into how to root the Xperia Arc (and he says he is close!), whilst the Xperia Play devs are looking at how to flash a custom ROM.

Seeing as both phones are running practically the same ROM, and what happened when devs cracked the X10, I say it wouldnt be long until both methods are available for both phones.

Sony Ericsson unlock the Xperia Arc and Play bootloader

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011
Sony Ericsson made the promise to unlock the bootloader of SIM free and generic versions of the new Xperia range. Currently for the UK, this is limited to the Arc and Play.

Today, they have at last made a website with details on how to unlock the bootloader. We assume that the Neo and Pro will be able to unlock in the same manner when they get launched.

Sadly, at time of writing, it is rather pointless as there are no custom ROMs for the Play or Arc. However, as soon as we get details of custom ROMs being made, we will be sure to let you know, and hope that the XDA devs will start work on this soon.

Just as a reminder: unlocking the bootloader on your Xperia device will void the warranty. Also, many people that have already done it have reported that the process seems to wipe the data from your phone, and may not work properly on the Android Market (as reported by one of our forum users)

Bootloader unlocking tool

Thursday, April 7th, 2011
Sony Ericsson promised to unlock the bootloader on generic and sim free devices. Well, one of the devs at XDA has found the tool needed to unlock it. Thankfully, its part of the Android SDK.

They have posted instructions on how to use it. For now it will determine whether your Arc or Play can have the bootloader unlocked, but wont unlock it as it appears it needs a key to unlock it. Hopefully, as reported by another blog, this will be in the upcoming weeks

XDA devs work on flashing decrypted ROMs for Xperia Arc

Thursday, April 7th, 2011
It seems that the XDA devs are still fighting Sony Ericsson for customization. Already they can flash the Xperia Arc with the decrypted firmware for the Arc, so if theres something you dont like about the new Arc firmware, then it seems you have a possibility to reflash the old one.

As for whether the Xperia Play can be flashed with this method, we have no news on it.

Xperia Play ROM gets system dumped

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011
Xperia Play

As with the Xperia Arc, the Xperia Play has had its ROM system dumped.

Seeing as both devices use Gingerbread, the differences in the ROM are not likely to bring something new that we dont already have from the Arc ROM. Not even the launcher is different.

However, there are a couple of extra games, one being Tetris and works pretty good in the X10. The others? Well, you’re just going to have to visit this thread to find out.

Bearing in mind the Arc ROM was ready to be flashed in three days from being system dumped,  I wonder how quick the devs will be with this one?

Xperia Arc ROM ported to Xperia X10

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011
It was only on Sunday that I was reporting to you about the Xperia Arc getting system dumped.

One of the developers at XDA forums has managed to port the Xperia Arc ROM to the Xperia X10, with network, data, WiFi, bluetooth, Timescape and GPS all working. Details of which you can find here
I believe this to be an old firmware that they have used for porting, so this might not be how the finished Xperia Arc will look like when released.

Two new additions to Sony Ericsson’s Campaigns site

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Sony Ericsson have recently added 2 new mini-sites to their ever-growing portfolio of… well, mini-sites, or campaign sites, as they like to call them.

So, the first one is about this app they developed, called ‘Find It’. As the site says, it “can help you locate a whole range of items: your tent at a festival; your car in a crowded car park; your hotel in a busy tourist area; your favourite spot on the beach .” Basically, it’s an app that allows you to tag locations, so that you can find them more easily later on (note, locations, not the TV remote). It requires the HGE-100 GPS enabler accessory in order to work and no, you can’t use your phone’s inbuilt GPS if you have one.

The second campaign site is about some new and hopefully many upcoming motion-controlled… stuff. Wallpapers, games… other things you might want to be motion-controlled, you name it. They’ve even put up a video to hype you up. You know, one of those artistic type of videos that glue your eyes to the screen, despite the fact that they tell you little or nothing about what they’re actually about. After watching the video you are presented with two links. One of them takes you to the main page of PlayNow arena – nothing special. The second brings you to SE’s Fun & Downloads site to browse the (surprisingly many) motion-controlled games. Thankfully, there are a few free wallpapers as well, which are quite nifty.
