Friday, August 19th, 2011
Do you remember that dancing Android from Sony Ericsson?
Sony Ericsson’s Android Dancing Robot showed it’s performance previously on a few events in Taiwan, Malaysia and last time it was at the Google I/O 2011 in San Francisco.
Two days ago the dancing Android got competitor – the Zombie from Plants vs Zombies.
They have celebrated the launch of Plants vs. Zombies on the Xperia PLAY.
Sony Ericsson organised a little Zombie dance off for the launch!
That was a party at the Sony Ericsson stand at Gamescom!

Dogfight: Xperia Arc vs X10 – Both on 2.3.3

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Since the official 2.3.3 update for the X10 is out we can make a fair compare between the new and old flagship devices from Sony Ericsson.Day to day use:
After playing with the X10 a bit I have to say it isn’t smooth. Swiping between the screens has little lags which comes due its 32fps cap. What doesn’t make it better is that it doesn’t fully go up to the 32fps on 2.3.3 because on 2.1 it was smoother.
So in the point of smoothness the X10 loses against the Arc. The Arc scrolls smooth trough the screens, the app drawer and everything else. That’s because it is uncapped. It goes up to 60fps like all other uncapped devices.
The next point is opening apps:
Here the both competitors are both very good. They open the apps really fast, but again the Arc is faster, just a little but you notice it.
The only thing the X10 is faster is on opening the contacts and the messaging app, that’s because the X10 is clean, no contacts or texts on it. Just 5-8 apps.

Now we come to browsing:
And again both devices are very close. In loading pages they are both fast, but the Arc is a little bit faster. But pinch to zoom isn’t smooth on the X10 compared to the Arc, that may be because the X10 has buggy Dualtouch and the Arc has real Multitouch.
Both devices handle pages with flash quite well. I’d say it’s a tie here.

Last point is youtube, tested with the youtube app that comes shipped with them.
Both open the videos fast, but on the Arc it’s definitly faster. I’d say it’s a second faster, it was always noticeable.
Both devices were connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Benchmarks:
Linpack:
Xperia Arc: 38.90mflops
Xperia X10: 36.322mflops

Quadrant:
Xperia Arc: 1683 (someone got 1790 points, also on stock ROM)
Xperia X10: 1322

Speedtest.net:
Xperia Arc: Ping: 87ms, Download 8.5Mbps, Upload 0.98Mbps
XPERIA X10: Ping 41ms, Dowload 7.2Mbps, Upload 0.98Mbps
These tests are from today. Xperia Arc scored a ping of 55ms and downlod of 12.3Mbps a while ago. My Wi-Fi seems a bit slow today.
But anyway, I’d say the Arc has faster Wi-Fi

Camera:
A lot of people want to know if the Exmor R sensor of the Arc makes a difference compared to the X10.
Here are some pics made at dark conditions:
X10:

Arc:

I used auto mode on both devices to make the pics. As you can see the Exmor R sensor makes definitely a difference. So the Xperia Arc wins here, too.

We should keep in mind that the comparison was made right after the X10 got updated. So it’s totally clean (no texts, no syncing) and no apps are running and I only installed 5-8 apps for testing on it. That’s because it’s my spare phone.
The Arc is my daily phone and I have around 95 apps on it, a lot of texts, syncs emails etc, Facebook is on and push activated. Also it was up for 43 hours when I did the test.
So it’s a good achievement from the Arc. Clean and fresh restarted phones are faster than phones that run for a while and are loaded with apps.

As expected the Xperia Arc wins this dogfight but the XPERIA X10 isn’t bad, too. It’s a year older and you notice that.

Sony Ericsson launches C905 Flickr photography competition

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Sony Ericsson now gives you the opportunity to become Sony Ericsson Official Photographer 2009. If you’ve got a hidden photographer in you, you should definitely take part of Sony Ericsson’s newly launched C905 photography competition at Flickr.

The five individuals that get the most ‘Favs’ will each receive a C905 to keep. These five will then have to continue in the competition only using the C905, and taking pictures of motives selected by Sony Ericsson. The five will have one day for each motive. The individual with the most combined ‘Favs’ will win the title of Sony Ericsson Official Photographer 2009.

To enter the competition you have to be located in the UK, either have a Flickr account or register one, and upload a ‘never before published online’ portrait shot taken by you. You must also tag your photo with the following tags: sony ericsson, c905, photography competition.

Too bad this is UK only. I would have loved to take part of it.

More details about the competition, as well as many beautiful competition entries, over at Flickr.

Put On Your Dancing Shoes And Do The Fanwalk!

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

MTV invites all music lovers to search for their dancing shoes and participate on a trip from London to Liverpool’s European Music Awards — the so-called fanwalk. For nine days (29.10. – 06.11.2008) the 100 winners will blog, do interviews and photo shoots on fanwalk.tv.

To become one of these 100, you have to get a nickpage on the above site — that will launch on August 11th — and get as much votes for you as possible.

We assume it will be available in other languages from 11th.

Got star potential? Sony Ericsson digs your life captured

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Sony Ericsson just recently launched an entirely new website called “Life Captured”. It’s a Cyber-shot campaign / contest that can make it possible for you to star in a movie or make a movie in a new film project, called “Life Captured”.

Sony Ericsson has hooked up with Mike Figgis, known for directing a large number of movies, and is giving you the chance to tell your life story with your camera phone, and create a film from these snapshots.

Five winners will win a C902, and will be invited on a VIP trip to the the film’s premiere at London’s Raindance Film Festival in October this year. Finally, one winner will be revealed at the premiere to win a grand prize, also to be revealed at this premiere.

You can find the website here, with lots of information on this contest. It all sounds very exciting, so do let us know if you sign up!

Sony Ericsson World View 2008

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Following the great success of Sony Ericsson’s World View 2007 camera phone competitions with over 70,000 entries, Sony Ericsson recently announced the launch of the new World View 2008 competition, now bigger and better!

The goal of the competition is quite clear; simply snap a “picture perfect” photo, and upload it at the World View 2008 website. I don’t think the website has fully launched yet – at least not here – but it is said to be a stunning, interactive website making it possible to share photos and getting started with social networking.

So… prizes. This year’s prizes are really amazing. The person with the most votes from the people will get The People’s Choice prize, which is a £5,000 (€6,250) trip! If I enter, promise me you’ll vote for me!
The Experts’ Choice winner is chosen by Sony Ericsson’s panel of photography judges, and will be sent on a once-in-a-lifetime trip worth £10,000 (€12,500).

You can read more about the competition in the press release or at the official website once it’s launched.

Go Backstage With Leona Lewis & Sony Ericsson

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Sony Ericsson today launched a new music competition, starring the beautiful and highly talented Leona Lewis. You might know Leona from hits as Bleeding Love (I love this one – and nice music video, too!) and Better in Time. You can actually download the latter completely free of charge at the competition website, thanks to Sony Ericsson.

The competition is quite simple. All you have to do is to write down why you’d like to win the competition in less than 25 words, fill out the form and you’re in! All entrants must be over the age of 18 and residents of Australia. Too bad for me.

The prizes are;

  • Double backstage pass (by responding to this YouTube video)
  • Tickets to an exclusive event with the singer
  • A Sony Ericsson W890 pre-loaded with the complete Spirit album

You’ll find the competition website over here.

Good luck!
