Smile Shutter mini-site gets online

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

smileshutter_site

Sony Ericsson has a trend of creating these small, cool mini-sites that either feature a product (range) or a specific new feature or application. Therefore, it’s not surprising to see that they’ve published a mini-site for the newly announced C510, mainly focusing on its Smile Shutter technology, while throwing in a handful of nice photography tips and tricks – most of them are definitely worth checking out. You can check out the mini-site for yourself on the link below.

C510 is the new Cyber-shot phone

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

c510The rumoured Sony Ericsson C510 Cyber-shot phone was officially announced today, a full day ahead of CES in Las Vegas. The C510 is a quad-band GSM / EDGE and 2100 MHz UMTS / HSDPA (tri-band 3G for America) phone, and will be Sony Ericsson’s first phone to feature Smile Shutter from the get-go.

The C510 features a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus, Smile Shutter as mentioned before, Face Detection (detect up to 3 faces at a time), PhotoFix, geo-tagging (by cell ID), lens cover, illuminated camera shortcut keys and much more. It doesn’t come with a memory card bundled, which is a bit of a bummer seeing this is a camera phone, but its internal memory of 100 megabytes should hold a fair amount of pictures.

If you feel like printing your pictures, the C510 features HP’s Snapfish service, so you can send print orders right from your phone and have them delivered at home.

- “We have been leaders and innovators in the camera phone segment since the company was started,” said Sven Totté, Head of Imaging Marketing at Sony Ericsson, and continued: “Now we are delighted to unveil the C510 Cyber-shot, our most accessible Cyber-shot phone to date which includes a host of new features normally found on more premium phones. Features like Smile-Shutter, YouTube integration and Snapfish by HP integration make the C510 Cyber-shot a really fun mobile phone to use. This phone will enable us to engage new markets and consumers to our Cyber-shot phone experience.” (more…)

c905_update

Sony Ericsson today also announced that it will provide a large firmware update for the Sony Ericsson C905, that is designed to add extra value to the phone. Sony Ericsson calls it the “C905 Cyber-shot upgrade” and features the following:

  • Smile Shutter
  • YouTube video client
  • WayFinder 8
  • Built-in Snapfish service by HP
  • SMS/MMS conversation style (chat view)

Other than that, there’ll be the usual bug fixing, etc. The upgrade will be available from mid-February, presumably offered via Sony Ericsson Update Service.

Also announced today is the Tender Rose colour variant of the C905, which will be available this quarter of the year.

Review: Sony Ericsson C905

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

I can finally say that our review of the Sony Ericsson C905 is now completed, and we’re pretty happy with the result. Almost 7,000 words and more than 120 pictures went into this review, and my fellow blog editor, NightBlade, has been a great help with this review. I hope you’ll enjoy reading his contributions to the review as much as I did.

We’re quite pleased with the C905, and ended up giving it a USEB Score of 83%, which is the highest score we’ve ever given a feature phone.

Go check out the review for yourself right here!

Presenting the C510, aka. Kate!

c510-copy

Our friends over at Daily Mobile have released a number of photos of Kate, an upcoming handset from Sony Ericsson. The official model name of the handset will be C510. As the supposed K770 successor, it’ll feature a 3.2MP camera with a Photo flash (think LED), Face detection, the recently mentioned Smile Shutter, BestPic, QVGA video recording, an active lens cover and illuminated keypad shortcuts. The handset is pretty thin. It also features a 2.2″ screen, an accelerometer and by the looks of it, an inbuilt YouTube player. Oh, and also some kind of new printing service, called Snapfish.
