Sony Ericsson ignores solar panel gimmick in future handsets
Sony Ericsson are not following the flock when it comes to making a green phone, according to an interview with Head of Sustainability Mats Pellbäck-Scharp up on Omio.
Rather than going down the solar panel route on a single handset like Samsung with the Blue Earth or LG’s newest planet-saving device, Sony Ericsson are pushing the GreenHeart initiative which showcases innovative methods such as e-manuals and energy saving phone chargers.
He in fact says that the effort and energy consumed adding solar panels to a handset in production is not actually offset by it’s usage, actually doing more harm than good!
Instead Sony Ericsson has been making great steps over the last ten years including using not using hazardous materials such as bromine and PVC in all their phones, making a much bigger difference to the world than a single eco-conscious device.
GreenHeart will be launched by a single handset in the first half of 2009, with a view to rolling out these environmentally aware changes across the entire portfolio in the future.
