It is now official that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1a, the American version of this powerful smart phone, is going to be released on November 28 this year. The X1a is said to be available exclusively at Best Buy and the official Sony Style webshop, where you can already pre-order the phone for about 800 USD.

Sony Ericsson now gives you the opportunity to become Sony Ericsson Official Photographer 2009. If you’ve got a hidden photographer in you, you should definitely take part of Sony Ericsson’s newly launched C905 photography competition at Flickr.
The five individuals that get the most ‘Favs’ will each receive a C905 to keep. These five will then have to continue in the competition only using the C905, and taking pictures of motives selected by Sony Ericsson. The five will have one day for each motive. The individual with the most combined ‘Favs’ will win the title of Sony Ericsson Official Photographer 2009.
To enter the competition you have to be located in the UK, either have a Flickr account or register one, and upload a ‘never before published online’ portrait shot taken by you. You must also tag your photo with the following tags: sony ericsson, c905, photography competition.
Too bad this is UK only. I would have loved to take part of it.

I’ve just noticed that Sony Ericsson has updated its press media library with tons of product videos. It seems there is now at least one video per product with some products having quite a bit more than that. The videos vary a lot in terms of what they are about. Some go into details about how the phone was developed while others are stories of how different people use the phones. One of the video descriptions even state C905’s codename. Interesting!

UIQ’s entire 270 staff have been put on notice of dismissal. With both Sony Ericsson and Motorola no longer using UIQ in their products the company’s future is dubious. Sony Ericsson has agreed to fund the company on a monthly basis to allow UIQ to explore its options, in other words until someone buys the company or the staff can be found other jobs. The staff themselves are a valuable asset given their experience.
All About Symbian reports that both Sony Ericsson and Motorola has dropped a number of UIQ handsets planned for launch.

In a matter of hours Sony Ericsson will announce its new W705 (codename: Rika), W705u (codename: Norika) and MBS-900 Bluetooth speaker system in conjunction with the MTV Europe Music Awards where Sony Ericsson is one of the main sponsors. As it’s getting close to midnight here, I’m not really in a mood to write a ton about what will be the last announcement of the year, so here goes a set of specifications instead.

You heard me right. Sony Ericsson are going to make their last announcement for the year 2008 on 6th November. Sad, I know.
What’s going to be announced then, you say? Well, nothing much, actually. Many of you have probably heard of Rika (aka. W705), pictured above. It’s going to feature the same Clear Audio Experience found on the W902 and W980 models. It’s got WiFi and YouTube support, much like the G705, a 3.2MP non-AF camera with a LED flash and will ship with a 4GB M2 card. Pretty much everything else is just like on your average A2 Walkman phone. Gotta admit, though – that aluminum casing looks very stylish. The phone will ship in 2 colours – Passionate Red and Luxury Silver.
An Orange-branded version will be announced as well.

Thursday will also herald the announcemet of the MBS-900 Bluetooth-equipped 2.1 Home Audio System. It’s got fancy touch controls and an OLED display. Design’s not bad, either. Did I mention the built-in FM radio receiver?

Surely you didn’t think Sony Ericsson would settle for a measly commercial to fully advertise its new imaging flagship? Well, I’ve got some news for you. Word has it that they’ve signed a five-figure deal with FHM (For Him Magazine), an international monthly Men’s Lifestyle magazine, to promote the C905 cameraphone in the December issue, just in time for the holiday season.
