Today a few photos of the red variant of Rika were leaked at the Thai SEClub.com. There’s not a whole lot to say about Rika other than that we’re expecting it to be announced in October and hit the market just in time for the Christmas sales. Another picture after the jump. (more…)

Sony Ericsson video Q&A and X1 video demo

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

A very interesting video Q&A with Sony Ericsson’s President, Hideki Komiyama, and Rikko Sakaguchi, Senior Vice President and Head of Portfolio & Proposition at Sony Ericsson, was posted at Trace and Matt’s Blog. Komiyama tells that they’re definitely working on innovative products and that they’re aware of their problems. It’ll take three to four months (and yeah, we agree!). Also, Rikko Sakaguchi tells that they know that they cannot keep on segmenting products, and he even comments on the JavaOne video on YouTube. That made me giggle a bit :-)

Also, a comprehensive video demo of the X1 was posted. Check it out!

By the way, if you’re wondering what’s happening with the various embedded Sony Ericsson applications on USEB, that’s simply a part of SE’s blogger and community outreach. They’re also going to set up a number of competitions for both readers and blog authors, so keep an eye out on this place. If you’ve got dreams of starting your own SE blog, now would be a good time to do it, too :-) They’re really doing a great job keeping up with the web communities nowadays, latest with the launch of Xperiancers.com.

musicreborn

You can now find a very nice thing at Music Reborn: A flight through a song.

At the flight, you can explore the single instruments of the song which is Pop Levi’s “Dita Dimone” (Pink Enemy Remix). That piece of music is downloadable for free, be aware that it is not 3.5MB as displayed but about twice the size.

You are also able to save screenshots of your flight to your computer and you can download a screen saver.

Have fun!

2.1 Bluetooth speaker in works

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Sony Ericsson also showcased a Bluetooth speaker at the special meeting, we talked about earlier today. While the attendants were not allowed to take pictures of it, they were allowed to tell the world about it – and they sure have! MobileCowboys posted a drawing of how it looks, and also posted some info on it. Shiny Shiny also posted a rather nice post about it, which was spotted by GoldenFace at Esato. Here’s his sum-up of the post:

  • Wireless Audio
  • 2.1 audio system
  • Sub-Woofer
  • OLED Display
  • Can pair up to 5 devices
  • FM Radio
  • Bass & Treble controls
  • Touch controls

The name is confidential and the attendants were not told what it is.

Sony Ericsson aims to be champion of sustainable development

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

A few days ago, Sony Ericsson invited selected press and bloggers to a special meeting about the company, its future and future products and plans. According to Belgique Mobile, Sony Ericsson has been working on “the green wave” and wants to make future products more friendly to the environment. The company showcased three ideas.

Product packaging
The packaging of the 100+ million products Sony Ericsson ships a year is a huge post, that could be improved to reduce the amount of CO2 released. Sony Ericsson has developed a special envelope that – in theory – could replace the original packaging.

Chargers
Another one of the large and rather obvious posts on the “green wave”-plan is the charger. Sony Ericsson has developed a charger that will stop completely when nothing is connected. By pushing the connector into the phone, it’ll start, and when it’s removed, it’ll stop again. It’s an ingenious solution and according to Sony Ericsson, the charger will be generalized soon.

Say goodbye to paper manuals
Sony Ericsson’s last idea is about going away from paper manuals, and instead integrate the manuals into the phone software. The huge advantage here, other than the large amount of trees that can be left standing, is that the manuals can be updated and even integrated into various functions, so you’ve got help available for every single feature on the phone.

You might also want to check out MobileCowboys’ story about Sony Ericsson’s CO2-neutral concepts right here with a full view at the Green Heart Phone (to the right).

Sony Ericsson’s new 5-megapixel ‘Kate’ leaked

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Sony Ericsson’s upcoming 5-megapixel Cyber-shot phone, codenamed Kate (they didn’t know, so we’ll tell you!), was leaked just recently at cellphonesail.net. It is basically a C902 but with the slightly updated software (i.e. Java Platform 8.4 like on C905). Other than sporting a 5 megapixel resolution, the camera also features auto focus and smile shutter. It has a xenon flash and there’s a button for switching between camera modes (still, video & preview).

There’s no built-in GPS, nor is there a camera on the front for video calls. It operates on quad-band, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA networks.

We’re guessing Sony Ericsson will make things official about Kate in October along with a few other mid/high-end products. It’ll probably be available late this year. Price-wise, we’re looking at a phone that’s likely to end at about 300 Euro.
