Mobile Review’s first impressions of W902/595/302

Eldar is a man who once loved Sony Ericsson. With the latest models, this love is gone and it hurts him. It seems like the line-up for the announcement at July 22nd is nothing to bring back the love again. Read his impressions about the three phones in the following articles:
Sony Ericsson W902
Sony Ericsson W595
Sony Ericsson W302

I think Eldar’s impressions are going to be my impressions very soon…
3:07 am on 7/15/08Eldar is justified
3:36 am on 7/15/08the W902 is okay, but W302 and W595 should be cancelled. and Remi should be included on the announcement come july 22
3:48 am on 7/15/08What’s OK with W902? Design copy or same platform? Oh, I forgot - 8GB M2 - wuauuuu !!!! :/
3:51 am on 7/15/08I mean cummon. Dsp or not, the K850 has better RMAA ratings than the N81.Do we need to show eldar that?? Check out gsmarena’s audio qaulity test. People should give some credit to SE for their show. Everyone is acting like they are criminals and should always come out with a blockbuster phone.
4:55 am on 7/15/08could someone translate it in english?
5:05 am on 7/15/08SE may not be in their best element nowadays…but i’ve always love these brand.
These look AWESOME even though similar…
6:55 am on 7/15/08hmmm…. W902 is ugly, but the specs are great. W302 is a little re-make of the W880i/890i - nothing new. And W595 isn’t required, because 3,2 MP without AF isn’t as good as 2,0MP with AF. Pls SE come up and bring something, that the world haven’t seen before… but I have to go to Samsung or LG now. I want Beibei - I love this Phone. It’s sooooooo beautiful - why it is cancelled?
7:58 am on 7/15/08I really am curious why sony ericsson doesn’t bring their Japanese phone models to the international market… If my memory serves me right, they have done that to the s700i which is originally exclusive for the Japanese market. Something like this should really obliterate competition http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/english/product/foma/905i/so905ics/index.html (btw, that is not a new unit, i believe that this unit is already a year old) or this one http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/product/foma/906i/so906i/index.html
12:23 pm on 7/15/08w902’s specs is definitely awesome! i’ve been waiting for SE to put AF in walkman phones and here it is!
4:07 am on 7/16/08i’m gonna save money and buy myself one at the end of the year! =D
hmmmm he’s still a douche i see no biggie i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again the only website you can trust for true non-biased reviews are GSMarena i wouldnt trust anything mobilereview says
10:10 am on 7/16/08Come on. Don’t you think Eldar is a little overreacting? W902 is really awesome. I think it’s gonna be my next phone. It only lacks Wi-Fi, but it’s got HSDPA and with data prices constantly dropping it’s better than Wi-Fi because you are connected everywhere. W302 is nice too. W890 is too expensive for most people. It’s a cheaper solution for the people who like W890 but can’t afford it. For W595 I can’t say much. I like the design and that’s all. I think Eldar was expecting some kind of a killer phone, maybe W990 or something and now he’s disappointed. He’ll regret those words soon
2:12 pm on 7/16/08I’m dissappointed from Sony Ericsson - that’s all I have to say…
3:24 pm on 7/16/08to be honest, the design of w902 is not all too fancy and pretty or special.
3:46 pm on 7/16/08but hey! it has everything good in it! where can u find a 5 megapixel camera with AF in a WALKMAN phone?
i think many people are disappointed over the fact that SE didnt put much innovation into their new products. Yes, i agree.
But i think they’re trying to fill the gaps in the market to increase their market share. They are trying to attract a larger community whom not always have all the money in the world to buy HIGH end phones.
I think SE’s directions will be justified by the next product announcement. Probably importing some designs from the Japanese phones they make. Who knows?

4:29 pm on 7/16/08well he does have a point, no dedicated audio chip, no such a great camera, not a revolutionary design, but the motorola F3 wasnt anything special and still beeing sold….not every release of SE has to be stunishing i think he is specting to much of every single release…
4:59 pm on 7/16/08I agreed with Eldar. Walkman series got worse and worse…
6:21 pm on 7/16/08I really missed the day of W800.
Ok, I can’t take Eldar’s biassed BS anymore. Here’s the gist of the mail I sent him 5 minutes ago:
“I’ve been reading your site for a while now and I have to say, your SE hate is going off the rocker these days.
It used to be constructive, but no it just doesn’t make sense anymore. The W580 keypad problems? They were rectified a long and i mean a LONG time ago. I have a 6 month old W580 which i use pretty extensively and guess what? No broken keypad! Same goes for every person I know who has the same handset. And people buy it for the pedometer? Puhlease. I bought it coz It was a WALKMAN. So did most other people. You can complain all you like about paper specs and how it is inferior to the Xpressmusic (Interesting to see the inverse correlation between your SE hate and NOKIA love), but face the facts dude, the NOKIA doesn’t come anywhere close to a walkman when it comes to user experience. Try juggling 2000 songs in a W phone and do the same on an XpressMusic. See how good your “DSP chip” is in managing the playlist efficiently.
It’s not a late call, it’s a periodic update. I know for a fact that if the phone WASN’T updated, you’d be crying “Bloody murder! SE lets it’s portfolio go static!” or something similar. Also, consumers don’t upgrade to an updated version of the same phone, they upgrade to a higher segment (Like me, who will be upgrading to an Alicia). It is the lower segment customers that the new phone targets. Basic business principle.
Lastly, the camera is not spectacular coz it’s not an imaging specialized phone. Ever heard of this little thing called “product segmentation”? I wouldn’t expect so, considering that you are mesmerized by NOKIAs.
I have concluded that I can’t trust you anymore for unbiased reviews. Do what you do best. You have just lost a longtime reader.
Synn.”
8:25 am on 7/17/08Also, I can’t figure out his insipid obsession with the lack of a 3.5 mm jack on the body. Look, plug any goddamn headset you want into the handsfree kit, ok? I did just that, tried a few different options and went back to the stock earphones. they sound exceptionally good. For rock and Metal anyways.
Plus you know, it helps you talk handsfree. With this being a phone first and formost, I’d have expected it not to go above his head.
8:31 am on 7/17/08Still SE doesnt have a single phone that have specs of N82. Elder is justified. Look even Nokia is providing free GPS maps so no data cost. New designs are really ugly. I guess K810i was the last beautiful phone. If W960 had gps then it might be a big hit but when it was launched it was outdated on that price catagory. I am disappointed with SE but still not with Sony.
9:35 am on 7/17/08Yeah SYNN, show that Eldar guy…
12:28 pm on 7/17/08I believe that Sony Ericsson was mistaken to go down the route of product segmentation. What people really did appreciate was Sony Ericsson offering devices that comprises both photographic, audio, organisational, and communications related characteristics in an all-in-one approach. The last handset to do this was arguably the award winning K800i. Despite being positioned by some as an imaging product it pretty much did everything else extremely well. To this day it is widely regarded as a very competent device. Since then, people have become frustrated that if they purchased a music solution the camera would not be ideal or the phone would lack 3G. Within Sony Ericsson’s current range, having analysed it, it would appear that the K660i most closely approximates offering an all-in-one solution given that it offers HSDPA, Walkman 3.0, a camera, top quality materials and ergonomics, and a striking design. Very surprising to have such a feature set laden device regarded as a mid-range offering as it compares very favourably with Sony Ericsson’s more expensive offerings. Sony Ericsson needs to offer more all in one solutions and then it will once again be a true success. As Eldar from Mobile Review commented, it’s 2008, not 2005 or 2006, and people expect good technology in a good package, and certainly it would be a shame to put profit margins ahead of innovation. Sony Ericsson can be a leader in innovation.
3:07 pm on 7/17/08I really don’t think it matters if Sony Ericsson fail to keep up with Nokia or any other manufacturer. If you like SE phones(like i do), why would you care what Nokia, Samsung, LG etc are producing? Most people generally stick to one brand regardless of “innovations”. And i’m sure like most companies, SE prefer profit over praise.
