New Walkman Clamshell Codenamed Alicia

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

It’s quite a busy day since first Shiho (C905) got leaked and now we are presenting Alicia.

To say it plain, it’s quite the same thing as the already known W980i with small differences.

With emphasis to the animations that appear on the outer and hidden display it’s another phone that could be seen as an emotional series phone. Depending from your local services the animations on the display will show the current weather or some nice walkman animations.

The display will also show changing themes depending on the time of the day.

Thanks to phoner @ esato for that nice leak :)

Revealing Sony Ericsson C905 aka Shiho

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Shiho is the codename of the upcoming Cyber-shot flagship model from Sony Ericsson, and we’ve got everything about it! Its final name will be C905, and it’ll be announced along with some phones on the 17th of this month. In this post we’ll announce it for Sony Ericsson, and save them the trouble, plus give the competitors a little something to wee their pants about.

The C905 is the latest camera offering from Sony Ericsson featuring a fully spec’d 8.1 mega pixel camera with auto focus, face recognition, a new feature called Smart Contrast, image stabilization, BestPic, red-eye reduction, xenon flash as well as photoflash for both photos and videos. It’s got a video stabilizer feature as well. You can geo-tag your photos with the built-in GPS with further support for A-GPS, and the large camera resolution makes it possible to do prints in up to A3 sizes! Your photos will automatically flip to landscape mode, when you tilt your phone, as it’s got a built-in accelerometer. You’ll be able to watch your photos on a beautiful 2.4 inch QVGA-resolution scratch-resistant mineral glass TFT display. Feel like sharing your photos on a TV-set? That’s possible as well with the TV-Out Cable ITC-60, also to be announced on the 17th.

That’s not all, though… C905 will be the first feature phone by Sony Ericsson to sport built-in WiFi with DLNA-support, so all media in your home can be shared. It’s also got the latest in Bluetooth connections, supports USB 2.0 data transfers, and can be synchronized with Exchange ActiveSync.

The Sony Ericsson C905 measures 104 x 49 x 18 (19.5) millimetres, and weighs a massive 136 grams. It’ll be available in Copper Gold, Ice Silver & Night Black in early Q4, with a bundled 2 GB Memory Stick Micro M2. It comes in three variants, two with full support for UMTS and HSDPA in the certain regions (even America). The battery is good for 380 hours of standby or 9 hours of talk on GSM networks, or 360 hours of standby or 4 hours of talk on 3G networks.

Some postponements…

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

It looks like some have spotted the poll here on USEB, this time with the subject of what you guys think will be announced on the 17th. Many seem to think that Sony Ericsson will announce a few high-end smart phones, and I do understand why you’d think so, as just about every sign has been pointing to that. But stuff gets postponed, and that’s what has happened in the case of Beibei and Paris.

These phones will not be announced on the 17th, unless there’ll be a major change of plans just moments before the announcements on the 17th, although I extremely doubt this, seeing the announcement events are held in so many countries.

It’s sad, though, as especially the G702 (Beibei) looks to be an awesome phone. On the bright side, though, there has been talk about hardware upgrades, which I personally believe is true, and that should be the reason for the postponements.

It’ll be a mix of low-end and mid-end phones, and of course the camera flagship Shiho, which is awesome, by the way. More – or should I say everything? – on that one later this week.

Video: Unboxing the Sony Ericsson G900

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Well, a video unboxing of the Sony Ericsson G900 has been requested, and I thought I’d might as well give in on this one. Here’s a quick 2-minute unboxing of it, shot on the G700, so I apologize in advance, if the quality isn’t exactly top-notch. While we’re at it, don’t forget to check out our new YouTube channel for all the latest videos. It won’t hurt you to subscribe :-)

Sony Ericsson W53S now has 100 faces!

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Released back in October 2007 exclusively for the Japanese market, Sony Ericsson W53S is now available with 100 different faces or Panels, created either by Sony Ericsson, Disney or by famous designers from Tokyo and the world. So it pretty much gets the title of the “most customizable” mobile handset created until now :-)

By default, the W53S comes with only one face [well, normally phones do come with one only ;-) ] but users can buy any of the other 99 faces (or panels, as many like to call them) and change the appearance of the handset everyday. So it’ll be quite helpful for the moody! :-)

The handset features a 2.7 inch TFT internal display with 240 x 432 pixels and 260,000 colors, a 1 inch OLED external screen, built-in GPS with maps, a 2 Megapixel camera with auto focus, flash and video recording, a “Jog Dial” navigation pad, Web and email capabilities, Media player, access to music and video online stores, two 3D stereo speakers, mobile wallet, 100MB of built-in memory and microSD card support. Coming in a clamshell form factor, the W53S weighs 117 grams and, when closed, it measures 107 x 49 x 20 millimeters.

Another good example of a state of the art handset, exclusively for the Japanese market. Does make us wonder when we’ll be able to lay our hands on such beauties :-)

Sony Ericsson Z780 in blue

Monday, June 9th, 2008

It looks like the Sony Ericsson Z780 will soon make its appearance on the American market in a completely blue suit, which in my opinion actually looks surprisingly good, although the colour might be a bit too much for me. Guess what – there’s another current phone coming in blue soon :-) And it’s hot!

Comparing the G’s

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Thought I’d just post a few photos of the G700 and G900 compared to each other, and just for the fun of it, add a W960 in on one of the photos, to show you how small these really are. Keep in mind that W960 was actually quite an improvement over other UIQ phones. As you can see, the G’s are quite alike, with only minor hardware differences.

Previewing the Sony Ericsson C702

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

I’ve just finished writing up my first large-scale preview, debuting with a C702 preview. Here’s the excerpt for ya’:

The Sony Ericsson C702 is the new junior Cyber-shot phone, featuring a decent 3.2 mega pixel camera with auto focus and face detection, as well as a revamped user interface compared to the K550, which seems to be its predecessor. When announced, the C702 was offically the first GPS-enabled phone by Sony Ericsson, adding the ability to geo-tag your photos, when connected to GPS satelites. To further enhance the C702’s camera abilities, Sony Ericsson got the C702 IP54-certified, meaning it is more or less dust proof and splash resistant from all angles. This will enable photography enthusiasts to take photos in more extreme conditions than previously possible.

Read the full preview right here.

Note: This is not a review, but a preview based on about 26 hours with the C702. I will not be posting a review of C702, so you’ll have to do with this.
