UIQ: G700/G900 notes application

If you’re a UIQ 3 user, and you’ve got an older smart phone (before G700 & G900), you can actually add some functionality to it by installing some applications from the G700/G900 firmwares. After only having been released, the G700 & G900’s firmwares have been somewhat hacked, and a group of people have extracted some of the applications, making them available for all current UIQ 3 users. Currently, the torch application as well as the highly anticipated notes application have been extracted, and are available at UIQBlog.com with an install guide :-)

I must remind you that this is probably not supposed to happen, and I’m quite sure Sony Ericsson won’t be too thrilled about it, so you might want to do some thinking before installing these.

What would you like in the next theme?

As I’m finishing up the upcoming new blog theme, I want to know what you guys would like to see in this theme, and if there’s anything in particular I should add to enhance your experience when you’re here. Please keep in mind that there are some limitations, and that time is of essence as well.

Thanks in advance, and I’m looking forward to your ideas and wishes :)

PS. Yes, that was yet another off-topic post, I promise it won’t happen any more today!

1-year birthday!

I can’t believe it! A full year has passed already since the first post on what used to be ‘MobileXpert’, which was my first English mobile blog about everything in the mobile world. After a month or two, I closed this blog, and started USEB, solely about Sony Ericsson phones, accessories and alike, with all related posts from MobileXpert as my foundation. USEB was an immediate success, and after only a few months in the game, we could call ourselves one of the best Sony Ericsson blogs on the world wide web.

During this year, we’ve expanded rapidly, going from reviewing own phones to being recognized by Sony Ericsson and granted access to review phones and other press related ‘bonuses’. Some of our most trustworthy readers will remember that USEB was once located at a WordPress.com domain, but due to an expanding act from our and SE-NSE’s side, we jumped to the current location, and we’ve been happy to be here ever since. Some may also have noticed our partnerships with other sites, and others may even have benefited from these.

In light of this ‘birthday’, as I’d call it, I thought I’d share some facts and numbers with you. This post will be the 450th post on USEB, and with a total amount of six posters with a broad knowledge on the subjects, covering all from news to rumours, I don’t think I’m wrong calling USEB the largest Sony Ericsson blog out there. During the past four months, our servers have served almost 620,000 pageviews, with a current average at 5,000 - 6,000 pageviews per day, which is something we’re of course very proud of. Our RSS feed counter today hit its up until now highest amount of readers at 630 feed readers - yet another thing we’re upmost thrilled about! This couldn’t have been achieved without you, though, and we’re pleased to say that this blog hosts no less than almost 2,500 comments!

On behalf of the entire team, I hope that you’ve enjoyed this year as much as we have, and we look forward to our next birthday - hopefully with you as a guest! Had it not been for a genious idea I got just yesterday, I would have unveiled our new blog theme today as a celebration and sign of what has happened. However, I’m quite sure you’ll like my idea once I reveal the new theme some day closer to the 17th :-)

Sony Ericsson’s Press Invite

Here’s the English press invite for the next product announcement - this time it’s the one for CommunicAsia in Singapore, and not the Amsterdam one. I’ll leave you with the invite, and a thanks to our friends at CellPassion, who will be present at the announcement, so look forward to that! :-)

Preview: Sony Ericsson G900

It has been on the market since this Monday: The new touch-and-go UIQ3 smart phone G900, a powerful package of WLAN, 5MP camera with Auto- & Touch-Focus as well as a photo light and a 2.4″ touch screen combined with a regular keypad to bring UIQ to the mass market.

The G900 you can see here is my little precious since Tuesday and it does great so far. The Dark Brown colour really suites it well. The QVGA display is bright and clear and a breeze to handle. I won’t give that much away for now as we’ll post an in-depth review of the G900, once Sony Ericsson sends us the review phone.

I’ll leave you with impressions of the new menu icons, the media menu and the new panels standby.

The G900 is available nearly everywhere now, pricing is set around £275 / 350 € / $525.
